Lin's Market Richfield - Self- checkout machine

This is the alternative to shopping for groceries, instead of shopping at Walmart in Richfield,…read moreUtah. It's located off of Main Street across from the Maverick gas station. They have all the departments of a standard grocery store. Deli, Produce, Bakery, etc. The produce department had fresh produce. Organics were scarce. They had a delicious slice of carrot cake available in the produce department for only $2.50 a slice. They also have soups in that section along with sandwiches. I deducted one star because I found checkout slow in self-checkout. The machine prompted for a Perks rewards card number that I could not locate on their website. It would be nice if that rewards number was readily available on Lin's website. I was instructed by a store employee, after pressing the help button on the screen, to simply enter the phone number associated with the Perks reward account I was shopping with. It worked just fine with the phone number. Music plays over the store through speakers like any other grocery store. Kind of sad music at times, but mostly popular music. It wasn't loud in the store. A Starbucks is at the front near the entrance on the right when you walk in.

The market is very clean and well-stocked, and has a giant bread-making machine that puts out freshly-baked loaves! It mixes and kneads the dough, lets it proof and bakes it. The loaves weren't ready when we were there, but it was fun to watch them being made, and they were just being baked. I saw a lady with a loaf in her cart while we were walking around, so she must've just gotten the last one. We walked around the market and bought one thing, but all the staff there were really nice. The Starbucks crew were really nice as well, and the bathrooms were very clean! Parking was plenty, and it was just a great experience. If you need groceries and/or a place to stop for Starbucks, this is a great way to kill two birds with one stone!

It's a lovely store, and I want to support the effort to bring natural foods to this remote area. I'm here a lot and stop by every time...and regret it, lol. I would not eat prepared foods from here. Handwashing does not happen. I have witnessed countless cross contaminations, and it's just gross. Going from the register to the cafe section, using unwashed fingers with ultra long nails to reach into bins to grab ingredients for the smoothies, adjust her pants, grab a sticky bun with bare fingers, then back to the register to handle cash, and back to the cafe to make food again. Ack. This particular worker was friendly, albeit flighty and seemed to have had a past medical issue contributing to her disorganization and lack of attention to detail. Probably some training would be helpful, and oversight from the management. There was a younger woman restocking, but she couldn't be bothered to step in and help when it was busy, with customers wanting to check out while food and smoothies were being made. This is off putting; pack your patience. (And this hasn't changed each time I'm here!) The woman also had zero idea of ingredients, so if you have allergies, probably best to avoid. I asked if there was milk in the sandwich bread and the reply was "yes, it's veganaise on the sandwich." Ummmm. Ok. I asked if there was sour cream or any dairy in the chicken salad, and the reply was "yes, it's veganaise." Lol, ugh. (Veganaise is VEGAN, no dairy.) But I'm glad I wasn't able to order anything after watching her prepare orders for others. Best to get your sandwich fix at EscaLatte (Escalante Outfitters) or go up the road to the food trucks in Boulder.

This is a room that isn't advertised in 3rd party sites and has to be booked on the property website only - it's something like 50% cheaper than the rooms in the hotel. The room comes with unlimited tea, coffee, and hot chocolate from the General Store/Cafe. We were a bit confused with how it worked since other customers have to pay for drinks, but the clerk assured us we could go whenever to get drinks (which we did multiple times!) While we checked in too late in the day to eat at the deli and left too early in the morning for Chuckwagon's famous lunch boxes, we did hit it up in the morning for breakfast pastries, which according to the cashier are all baked in house (and why we were attracted to them in the first place). We were having trouble deciding between the Kouign Amann and the Chocolate Croissant, eventually deciding on the former, but the cashier tossed us the latter for free! What great service! Chocolate Croissant (Complementary, normally $6) - This is a gorgeous looking croissant, golden brown with a drizzle of sweet chocolate on top, still soft and gooey thanks to being fresh from the oven. It's baked hard, so croissant shards fly everywhere while eating. I'd say it's baked a tad too long, so while extremely flaky, the interior isn't quite as chewy as I'd like. The lamination does look quite good from what I can tell after having some difficulty slicing through with a plastic knife. As is traditional, two chocolate batons are baked inside. (5/5) Kouign Amann w/ Cream ($6) - Again, this pastry has a really hard bake, so almost the entire thing shatters easily, except for the stellar caramelized sugar layer covering the bottom. It's hardened, sticky, and sweet with a great crunch factor. The interior is actually correct for a Kouign Amann, which is really surprising for a small-town bakery. It's not laminated nearly as much as the croissant, and instead seems to be a nice enriched brioche interior, albeit not particularly airy and soft in texture due to the bake. There's a really tangy and somewhat sweet cream cheese frosting that's piped into the center. I'd actually prefer the pastry without this extra flourish, but beggars can't be choosers! (5/5) Both pastries are more of a 4.5/5 due to the bake, but the ingredients and technique (other than bake) seem to be well thought out. We were not expecting much from these baked goods given that the Chuckwagon Deli isn't exactly a specialty bakery, but in the end we were extremely surprised by the quality. I'll definitely be revisiting if I'm ever in town again.
