This place deserves all the praise! Still run by the family that owns it. Not a lot of space to eat in so call early for a res and order ahead. As soon as you're seated the food starts coming! Only 4 dishes on the menu. Portions are huge. Everything was phenomenal! The braised ribs were my favorite and Jeff comes himself to cut up the meat. Had plenty of food to take home. Felt like true Korean home cooking. Would love to come back!!

We had the best experience and the best Korean food today. The owners were not only so kind and accommodating but were so attentive. We celebrated my sister's birthday today and had 3 of their amazing dishes (see pictures). They also surprised us with a marinated crab as a birthday gift to my sister. Thank you so much! If you are looking an authentic Korean dish, you need to go to Jun Won Dak! It is an experience you won't forget. Please note: it is a small place, so be sure to call ahead to reserve a table and order ahead (the dishes can take up to 30 minutes to make). For parking, there is a public parking structure on Oxford and 3rd Street (next to YMCA).

Made a reservation for two for dining here. During the phone call, we had to specify the items that we wanted to order which were the samgyetang and eundaegu jorim. When we arrived we were able to find street parking in the residential areas. The owner immediately knew that we were the ones who had made the reservations, because they were really only two tables in the whole establishment for sit down. While we were eating, there were a lot of people coming in and out for takeout. The side dishes that we were immediately served were amazingly fresh. The soup smelled wonderful and was very naturally sweet from the tender chicken. The braised black cod was amazing as well, the meat was so tender and the sauce it came with was perfect for spooning over rice. Portion sizes were enormous, so we had so much left over for another meal. This place does not feel fancy on the inside but that's okay because you really come here for the food and you would just have to be okay with eating with disposable utensils and drinking out of little bottled waters. This is definitely on my list to revisit again as I only tried two of the four menu items.

After the algorithm guided us to Koreatown via Jun Won Dak, we were a bit confused by the sign indicating that the spot was takeout only, while there was a SMALL dining area with two tables set for lunch. After bumbling around for a few seconds, what seemed to be the owner came sprawling out and asked if we would like to sit at a table. WE OBLIGED! and boy was it the greatest decision of the year. The Braised Black Cod did not disappoints, and the portion size for the price was quite impressive, and the fish was cooked beautifully for easy eating with chopsticks and spoons. The homemade banchan included Kimchi, sweet potato skin, radish, and a root vegetable! The entree even came with the Ginseng Chicken Soup broth on the side! Wonderful experience especially including the Ajumma who came out to water her plant babies. Can't wait to return here again soon!

To eat here is to be blessed. Not only by the wonderful feast in front of you but also by the pure hospitality of the restaurant owner. Note that there is only one table available in the restaurant. Call ahead if you want to reserve! Otherwise, takeout galore. Our party was lucky enough to snag the table. While the shop is small, the whole experience (aka the food) made me feel like I was sitting at the bar counter of a Michelin restaurant. We ordered the Braised Cod, Galbijjim, and Samgyetang. From the banchan to the flavor of these dishes to the way the owner took time to cut the meat for us, we were all blown away. Braised Cod - Melts in your mouth, perfectly balanced. Galbijjim - Beats all other galbijjim dishes out the water. I was pouring that sauce ALL over my rice. Could eat by the bucket. Samgyetang - I could feel the life nurtured back into my soul. How this unassuming shop carries so much history and heart needs to be recognized!

Absolutely phenomenal. The Samgyetang was one of the best I've ever had--rich, incredibly flavorful, and comforting without feeling heavy. Every bite tasted homemade with high-quality ingredients. The banchan was fresh and perfectly prepared, and the entire meal felt authentic from start to finish. This is the kind of place locals hope never changes. If you're looking for real Korean comfort food in LA, Jun Won Dak is a must-visit. I'll definitely be back.

If you want to be blown away by this hidden gem, nestled in Koreatown, come here without hesitation for the greatest dining experience of your life. Just heard about this place and I couldn't resist. The Samgye-Tang (ginseng chicken soup) was full of flavor and packed with fresh ingredients. Enjoy!

This meal was life-altering and truly healed my soul; the food was made with so much love and care. I didn't want to get full because I kept wanting to eat the owner Jeff and his mom were so kind and gave us special banchan and free samgyetang. we didn't order the samgyetang cuz we said we could make it at home but ts i could not have made it at home it was so good. there's barely any seating, it's a super small place, and food takes a while bc they put sm care into each dish but thats how they like it. Everything was perfect!! and lol he said my Korean pronunciation was good ty Jeff

Is this only takeout? Thank you!

No, they have 1-2 dine-in tables (very limited) as well. The food tastes better when you dine-in though :)

Back after 8 years with an extra star this time!…read more We stopped by Sunday at 11am and were seated immediately. I would recommend coming early because the line grew exponentially after that! The table shared a M bossam and two soups and it was plenty of food! I loved the clam kalguksu - the broth was lighter with a pepper-y kick and a generous portion of clams. The chicken kalguksu was more viscous and the soup was on the saltier side. Obviously the bossam was a table fav and we especially enjoyed the white kimchi! Overall, good food though service was a hit or miss. Definitely interested in trying the large $80 serving size for the noodle dishes lol! Street parking or valet

The lot is a little emptier now that Sun Nong Dan moved out, but I HATE that they've also started running effectively a parking valet scam as well (aka bring cash in your car and you must hand the keys over). Food is still banging though. Bossam was a little blander than I remember, but it's still perfectly tender, sliced uber thin, and great balance between lean and fatty cuts. Naengmyeon broth is peak with the depth from the beef bones and sweetness as well. Perfectly chewy noodles and the serving size is huge!

They've mastered the art of keeping Korean flavors while dropping in modern twists that totally elevate every dish. The braised galbi served on a spread of mashed potatoes with various mushrooms is a total masterpiece. The zabuton is also one of my favorites if you like an asado and plenty of garlic. The golden chicken nuggets with seaweed powder on top are so perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. I have to admit the corn cheese egg rolls are probably my favorite thing on the menu, something as simple like a mozzarella stick type of appetizer just really hits it for me. And one of my favorite cocktails of all time. The staff is always so nice every time. They're attentive and honest with us if we are over-ordering. The ambiance is elite, even after renovation. Danbi is an absolute gem in Ktown. It's the perfect spot show off the city to out-of-town guests or for an incredible night out. 10/10 recommend!

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.
