I've worked with my share of photo booth companies. One year, it was a machine that someone set up…read morenext to a wall, nobody stuck around to show people how to use the machine, thus, nobody ended up using the machine. There was the guy who built his own booth out of a wood frame and bed sheets, interesting concept, but rather creepy in practice. And then there's Magic Mirror, which was professional from the get-go, and continues to innovate, many years later. Keiosha Miller, the owner of this company, first worked with me during an enormous event -- hundreds of people met her during Yelptropolis, and I noted her exuberant and engaging character as she approached strangers, getting them excited to take some spur-of-the-moment pics. That's why I recently hired her for an outdoor event at a vineyard. Keiosha arrived early, set up an elaborate booth (basically an inflatable tent with a dynamic photo apparatus, and a separate printer), and waited patiently for the crowd to assemble. She only charged me for the time she spent with the guests and was super reasonable with other expenses, but more importantly, her winning attitude was present the entire time. Kids, adults and those of us in-between will greatly enjoy her work, as well as the goofy props and customized photo frames for each occasion. Oh, and she also rents inflatables, because it just ain't a party without a bouncy house.

Cotton candy could be the most ingenious, ageless sugary sweet substance ever to grace our planet…read more I can think of a few that come close (gummy bears, funnel cake, fun dip, taffy, pop rocks) but in my humble opinion, the interstellar trippy orb of algodón azucarado knocks 'em all off the ladder. Why? It's three dimensional: a crafty work of art, a wild child to pluck and a magician in your mouth, at once a mass and suddenly vanished. I have every intention of removing my dentures and chowing on the stuff when I'm 64. Fantastic Jumps delivered the candy crack machine twice the other night, first to my own residence - which was not intended, my fault - and then to the party - intended - and they still made it there before the doors officially opened. Nice guys, quick setup, easy to use, and they were promptly back when the fun was over. Between those hours, a crowd of grown up kiddos munched on the pink stuff while they exploited their alcoholic tastebuds and flavor hacked (don't ask). The price was reasonable. The company was on top of it. This is one dealer I plan to do business with in the future.

Let's approach this from the perspective of the physics of a children's birthday party.. . Newton…read moretells us of the "conservation of energy." Basically, all that energy from all those kids is going to go somewhere, either into your house, into your yard, or into, onto and through the adults. Or, all that energy could go into a giant inflatable jumpy house leaving your house 90% cleaner, your yard 80% cleaner and your adults 110% younger. Think of it as a giant cage that kids actually want to stay in. Good, now that we've established the scientific need for a jumpy house, I recommend Fantastic Jumps. Since the mayhem of my daughter's first birthday party that left our yard and home in shambles, we've called FJ's every year since and I can tell you the $100 smakeroos is worth it! For the last 5 years they show up on time and pack up on time. We've never had a failure or issue. The dudes that set up the equipment are very friendly (as if you could work in the Jumpy House industry without being friendly... just imagine!) We always throw in a couple tables and chairs with our order too.
