I love this little grocery store tucked away in North Beach. It has a great variety of foods,…read morebrands, and even a good assortment of personal care products (if you're needing something in a pinch). The guy working on the weekends (employee? owner? not sure) is nice and polite and always has a smile when we're there. We enjoy picking up unique beer and ciders from the wide assortment in the fridges in the second half, as well as finding interesting cheeses. It's also great for the one or two things you might need that evening or snacks for later. My only complaint is I wish I lived closer so I could go a bit more often!

This convenient little shop has an excellent wine selection and lots of upscale consumable options…read more Their wine pricing is also often less than the average prices listed on Vivino. It's a grocery store, but has a bit of a boutique and rich vibe. It's one of the few places to get Mary's Chicken in the area and I have to get chocolate every time I go in there. The ambiance seems very hygienic to me, so I feel drawn into the place when I walk by. The Nature Stop has nice stuff, but my review has to be in earnest... maybe 2 or 3 stars? It's annoying that through several iterations of ridiculousness, you have to expect encountering some unnecessary and incompetent problem during each transaction. Two different cashiers didn't seem to understand the concept of tare weight. They weighed the meat with the packaging and attempted to charge me for it, despite the fact that the weight of the meat was printed directly on the packaging. I've worked in a meat department before and I have never seen that kind of inept behavior. It's insulting to the customer. So at the present time, the 2021 Domaine Bousquet Malbec is $11.99 here. The cashier scanned it and it came up as zero. He joked that it was free, but then had the audacity to offer me the obviously more expensive reserve price of $16.99, like the reserve one right next to it, and laughed in my face. I passed as I knew that Trader Joe's has the exact same thing for $9.99. Tonight, the Elysian 'tiger beer', listed at $13.99, rang up at $17.99, the same as their space dust. I passed, but they should at least have offered to have honored the price they had printed out for customers to read. The Space Dust IPA at S&S Market, one block away, was $15.99, so I bought it there and got to pet their cat too. It's a bit of a first world problem, but I didn't notice until being at home that my $6.25 chocolate bar, which is more than I made hourly when younger, was comprised of the wrong variety. I grabbed the chocolate bar behind the front one, to avoid the most touched one. It is a berry chocolate bar instead of the ginger one, and it's great, but still, the employees should be better at recovery. I was one of about two people in the store and it was not busy. I recommend going to this place to get ideas. Double check all the prices and shop around, but they have great merchandise. My suggestion to the owner is to install a self-checkout. The guy stocking merchandise was very helpful tonight with my bags.

The Pros: Massive Variety: Truly a "one-stop shop" for tea…read moreenthusiasts. Low Pressure: The staff greeted me and then stayed hands-off until I had questions. The Price: Easily some of the best values in the city. The Con: Sealed Packaging: Everything is pre-sealed in 1lb plastic bags. Because of the sealing, you can't smell the tea before buying. I'd love to see them implement scent jars in the future to help with the selection process. Neutral Observations In-House Packaging: All the tea is packaged identically in 1lb bags, which suggests they likely process and bag everything in-house. Labeling: I didn't notice any specific organic labels on the packaging, though I didn't explicitly ask. If this is a deal breaker, you may want to ask. Review If you're looking for a genuine loose leaf tea source -- your search ends here. I stumbled upon this place after endless online searching (blogs, search engines, etc) and it was well worth the effort! Just a heads-up on navigation: G-Maps is slightly off. If you rely solely on that, you'll be a few doors down. Look for the Volvo mechanics and the shop is located just on the other side. The exterior is unassuming, no windows, just a sandwich board on the sidewalk and a door. Looking inside it's a bit of a mysterious vibe, you'll see a stairway to the left and a hallway ahead. Go for it. Ignore the single pane glass, bank-teller-style window to your right (which directs you to the main door) and just head in. Also, keep an eye on the clock because, per the phone tree, they close for lunch from 12:30 to 1:00. I arrived right after 1pm and was able to park right in front. There was also plenty of other parking spot around at that time. IDK why, but before walking in, my imagination had prepared me for an old-world San Francisco opium den. I was thinking there was going to be this lingering aromatic smoke, plush floor pillows, people lounging, sipping tea, and the soft, ambient melodies of an upscale spa. I had also pictured rows of heavy, whiskey-style wooden barrels overflowing with loose leaf tea, topped with clear lids and metal scoops. The reality is much more utilitarian. This is not a den or a spa. It's clean, straightforward, and focused entirely on their product. The selection is robust and incredibly diverse. While they claim "wholesale to the public", I can't verify the industry margins, but I can tell you the prices are very good for the quality you receive. The employee greeted me and then stayed hands-off while I browsed, which I appreciated. When I did ask specifics, they had basic foundational knowledge. Honestly with the diversity and sheer quantity of products offered, it would take forever to earn a Tea Master badge. No harm no foul. The only real bummer here is that everything is pre-sealed in 1lb plastic bags, so there is no way to smell the product. I'd really appreciate scent jars in front of the bags. Since they seem to be doing the packaging in-house anyway, it makes me wonder why they haven't set aside a small amount of each batch for scent jars. It wouldn't require a change in their supply chain, just a few ounces and a glass jar to help customers navigate that massive variety. That aside, I absolutely loved this place. I've been searching for a spot like this for a long time. I'm just glad I finally found it. If you're at all interested in loose leaf tea, I'd suggest giving these folks an honest try.

I have been shopping at Whole Foods since 2002, and over the past 23 years I have witnessed some…read moresad and dramatic changes, especially in the last five or six years. In short, I strongly advise against buying anything labeled Whole Foods 365. First, Whole Foods introduces a low-quality private-label product at roughly half the price of competing brands in order to quickly gain market share. Second, they sharply reduce the availability of higher-quality competing products, often to less than a quarter of what was previously offered. Third, they remove the competing products entirely from the shelves. Fourth, once competition is gone, they gradually raise the price of their own private-label product to match or even exceed the price of the original competitors. Finally, when their product fails to sell in sufficient volume, they bring back the competing products in extremely small quantities. These items typically sell out within a couple of hours, leaving customers with no option other than the Whole Foods-branded product. There is only one way I can describe this behavior: it is an unethical evil business practice that undermines fair competition and effectively monopolizes the market.

I actually did not know about this place until very recently…read more I recently read a book, Cheesemonger: A Life on the Wedge by Gordan Edgar. The author has worked at this grocery for decades, and is in charge of the cheese department. Naturally, when I visit SF, I have to come by for a visit. I was a bit worried about the parking situation, but glad to find that they have their own parking garage. I thought it would be a more hippy kind of grocery store, but I was actually blown away when I walked inside. First, there were jars and jars - I mean shelves and cases of jars - of teas, and different types of herbs and spices. Some I had a hard time finding, like butterfly pea. Besides the variety, the quality is excellent. I got so excited, as if I were a kid and those jars were candies, that I kept finding more and more stuff I wanted to buy. Then the bread - okay so thisis SF and great bread is to be expected, but I was surprised again at the wide variety of selection on offer. Well, I don't want to repeat myself, but I love their chocolate selection too - so many interesting flavors and brands to try. Finally I made it to the cheese section. I didn't see the author there by the counter, but I was not disappointed with the selection they have. The cheeses also have little cards with useful information, that helped me pick up a nice variety of cheeses from different countries and different parts of the US to try, including some award winners. I most certainly love my first visit and look forward to the next time I will visit SF. It's an awesome place that is truly employee owned and managed, so most certainly worth supporting.

They have the best, wholistic, hippy foods and items ever! I love this grocery store so much & its very well stocked & a great part of SF for years! Bulk stuff its wildly overpriced but worth it. I only get a few items here ...Its a co-op which is super good but kinda means employees are free to do whatever they want & they are sometimes helpful sometimes not with questions.
