So far, so good! I ordered over $100 worth of spices from these guys yesterday morning at 6 a.m. Today at just after noon, my box of spices was delivered. Now, they ARE in SF, and I AM in Santa Rosa, CA, a mere forty miles north, but that's still impressive! They get ON an order! I will have to follow up with this review once I've had a chance to taste the various herbs and spices I've gotten from them, ***Update *** Actually, I apparently never finished this review originally and just found it in my "drafts", so I thought I should finish it. All I need to add is that yes, their spices are very fresh, extremely well priced and last a long time. I've been using them for a few years now (the SAME ONES I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT YEARS AGO!) and they are still fresh! I keep them tightly wrapped in their original bags, in the boxes they were sent in (photos added) and open them only to grab a little here and there and they just last and last. And I like FRESH herbs! I go to The Spice Shop in Santa Rosa to get things I don't have and don't buy crappy herbs and spices, not even pepper, so I know flavor and smell will go away quickly if things aren't fresh or stored correctly. These spices were the best investment I've made! Highly recommended, San Francisco Herb Company!!!

good stuff; good prices... bulk goods mostly packed in bags weighing 1 lb or sometimes less. Goods are dried and often to be fairly fresh.

I actually did not know about this place until very recently…read more I recently read a book, Cheesemonger: A Life on the Wedge by Gordan Edgar. The author has worked at this grocery for decades, and is in charge of the cheese department. Naturally, when I visit SF, I have to come by for a visit. I was a bit worried about the parking situation, but glad to find that they have their own parking garage. I thought it would be a more hippy kind of grocery store, but I was actually blown away when I walked inside. First, there were jars and jars - I mean shelves and cases of jars - of teas, and different types of herbs and spices. Some I had a hard time finding, like butterfly pea. Besides the variety, the quality is excellent. I got so excited, as if I were a kid and those jars were candies, that I kept finding more and more stuff I wanted to buy. Then the bread - okay so thisis SF and great bread is to be expected, but I was surprised again at the wide variety of selection on offer. Well, I don't want to repeat myself, but I love their chocolate selection too - so many interesting flavors and brands to try. Finally I made it to the cheese section. I didn't see the author there by the counter, but I was not disappointed with the selection they have. The cheeses also have little cards with useful information, that helped me pick up a nice variety of cheeses from different countries and different parts of the US to try, including some award winners. I most certainly love my first visit and look forward to the next time I will visit SF. It's an awesome place that is truly employee owned and managed, so most certainly worth supporting.

They have the best, wholistic, hippy foods and items ever! I love this grocery store so much & its very well stocked & a great part of SF for years! It has everything a earthy, health consciousness, green person would want. brands that are non toxic and ethically correct. ugh they are the best store ever for supplements and prices are fair basically the same as whole foods... Bulk stuff its wildly overpriced but worth it. I only get a few items here ...Its a co-op which is super good but kinda means employees are free to do whatever they want & they are sometimes helpful sometimes not with questions.

Firstly, it was my first time shopping at a co op and I really really really love that aspect of it. Anytime I can support a business like this, I want to! But beyond that, I was skeptical that the prices would be outrageous and was fairly surprised that they really weren't! Ok sure, some items were pricey, and that's true for any small store in this city, but for the bulk items and dry goods, the pricing was incredibly reasonable! I even found the same scones I buy at my local box box grocery store for cheaper here!! What?! I was also just blown away by the variety of choices.. they've got everything here.. produce, condiments, dry goods, chips, snacks, bulk items, tea, medicines and supplements, and a section of boutique handmade goods that was so awesome to look through!! I don't live close by but I will be back anytime I go to see my friend (which is often).

OA has a plentiful bulk section with all the teas, grains, and beans you could ask for. A few hard-to-find favorites are: dried boba, soba noodles, THAI TEA(?!) and all the liquids. This is one of those places that just kind of feels like home…read more I've been stopping by this market for as long as I've been hiking in the Golden Gate Area, which is over a decade. Some of Good Earth's items are on the super pricy side, but some are also reasonable. The deli and bakery items are usually pretty good. This was the first place I ever found Sjaak's chocolate. Sadly, they no longer exist, but I used to always stop by for their Hearts of Cherry after hiking around Mt Tam. Today I stopped by for whatever looked good enough to buy, which happened to be a pesto chicken calzone from the hot deli case, a slice of chocolate cake that looked too good to be $5, some roma tomatoes, and a blueberry banana water. The pesto chicken calzone had decent flavor, but it literally had like half a cup of grilled onions on it. Like, there was an entire opaque layer of grilled onion. Adding onions to compensate for less meat is one of the oldest Italian tricks in the book, and is the basis of many great recipes. In this case, it was a little much. Also, the crust didn't have any flavor, but for $10, for this area, it wasn't bad. The chocolate cake was the worst chocolate cake I've ever had in my life. It should have been labeled "iced biscotti," because that's about how dry it was. After a few bites, I had to double check to make sure I didn't accidentally grab an expired piece. It was so dry!! Okay, so, the cake was a mistake, but everything else was good. Their fresh deli pizzas looked AMAZING, but I did not take one home. Overall, the store is very clean, well lit, and merchandised nicely. My only issue is the twinkie sized stall in the ladies room, with a door that opens inward, trapping anyone who is greater than four inches in diameter between the toilet and the door. Sometimes you seriously have to wonder what kind of psychopath designed women's public restrooms. It's like, if you are larger than an actual Barbie doll, good luck getting in and out without touching the public toilet! So, I actually made two separate purchases. First, I purchased the calzone, and took it back to my car to eat. Noticing that I was surrounded by Teslas and eating disorders, I put up my sunshades so that I could eat in peace, without becoming a TikTok reel. After I finished eating, as I was lowering my sunshade, I caught the man parked next to me in the act of taking a video of me, anyway! My car is ugly enough to make a classist person assume that I'm a homeless person, which I'm sure is what happened in this case. Maybe he was planning to post it on social media as an example of how homeless people were ruining his life. When he saw a nicely dressed woman in a brand new, pretty dress (me) he looked shocked. I looked back and forth between him and his phone which was pointed at me, and glared. He lowered the phone and stared at me, wide eyed and jaw dropped, as if he wanted to explain. I glared at him as hard as I could. Classist rich people harass me like this all the time. As a formerly homeless person, I know that in reality, there's no such thing as "looking homeless." People who "look homeless" are usually housed and struggling with mental health issues, while homeless people who live in shelters are usually very well-groomed. But tell that to the classist rich person who thinks it's funny to take videos of other people and post them on the internet to mock them. I wish it was illegal to do that, but it's not. So if I'm posted on "homeless people of Marin" or something, that's what's up, even though I'm very much housed and employed. A calzone with a side of classism. Not the store's fault. But irritating none the less.

Some things are definitely more than you'll pay elsewhere (most of the crackers for example). Pasta and canned goods prices were okay; in general maybe a bit higher than some places but not too much so. For vegetables, they do have some nice deals and stuff you may not find elsewhere (heirloom tomatoes, early girl tomatoes, variety of fruit and different vegetables). I felt like the tomatoes alone were worth the trip (grape tomatoes for cheaper than I saw anywhere else, beautiful heirloom tomatoes at a decent price, and early girl tomatoes which can be hard to find in the winter [I haven't had them yet but they looked fresh]). There aren't a ton of options for the meat counter but they are all quality items and the prices show. For example, the only chicken they had was Mary's chicken. The cheese selection was great especially for a small store and they had some nice meat, olive and peppers (homemade?) options for charcuterie boards. They also sell premade meals. Probably not the place you should buy everything you need but it's a good supplemental option and there were some gems. I guess they have a few locations so I would be back to this one if I'm in the area and would also check out one of the other stores if convenient too.
