I was in Brugges 2 weeks ago but I did not want my memory of Juliette's to go the way of the baked goods I purchased from her (GONE!) before I had a chance to Yelp.
I mean, it's pretty simple: you should go here.
Every day I was in Brugges I went to Juliette's.
The first day was tentative: "oh hello, just poking my head in, checking things out".
The second day I went in for some speculoos spread (white chocolate with chunks of the spiced cookies that are a Belgian favourite).
The third day I was all in: I got more spread, and some waffles and - just for me - some thick speculoos cookies.
A note about the last item: although you can find thin crisp speculoos all over Belgium (and at Juliette's as well), nowhere else did I see a thick version of speculoos. As explained to me by...erm...Juliette (?)...these thicker cookies are the same spice blend but mixed with slivered almonds and then underbaked just a touch so that they're soft, not buttery-crisp.
The downside, Juliette warned, is that these thick speculoos do not keep for the length of time that the traditional speculoos do. NOT A PROBLEM (I ate both on the Eurostar home).
The shop itself is charming, as is the service. For all of Brugges' tourist traps, Juliette's is quaint and authentic and no less central than many of the overpopulated go-tos. I brought four jars of spread back for four lucky friends and they were thrilled to spread some of Juliette's creation on their morning brioche (or, erm...eat it straight from the spoon, as the case may be).
Yelp note: great for some in-the-moment snacks, even better for some portable and perfectly wrapped gifts for people back home who missed out on visiting Juliette's in person. read more
