After seeing her twice for fillings, I decided to switch to Dr. Filipova, because I like her gentle and thorough approach. She is very encouraging and easy to talk to, and would be a great match for someone who has anxiety about going to the dentist. Some of my fillings ended up needing refining (with an extra appointment) and they were able to get me in quickly. Staff on the phone and in person have also been very helpful, especially Ian. They will give you an itemized receipt for FSA / yearly health care cost documentation if you ask. Their office is also really nicely decorated and maintained. Details on filling type: they have done composite (aka acrylic and glass powder that is UV light cured), and not metal/mercury/amalgam fillings, These look natural, and last from 7 to 10 years -or more. I'm not sure if they offer other/ pricier types of fillings like gold or porcelain. As for insurance, they do take at least some levels of Delta Dental. I have not had any issues with billing so far with that insurance and this clinic. Tip: A few of the dentists with the most experience and seniority (such as Dr. Farah) are in the Delta dental "Premier" group of dentists. This means their fees (even with insurance) and the out of pocket/after insurance cost to you will be higher (versus someone who is not a Delta Dental "Premier" dentist).

If she didn't hang up on me, I would have simply rescheduled. Yes. She hung up on me. Stay away from whatever is going on at this location.

But I have to say, the COVID precautions at Oak Valley Dental are top-notch. They make sure you're not mingling with other patients as you move through the waiting area to your exam room. Each exam room has an air filter scrubbing the air. My hygienist and dentist are both vaccinated (as am I) and were double-masked. And they streamline the bill paying so you're not waiting at the front desk for payment to process. I was impressed both with how they adapted to the pandemic and to see that the first-rate skill and service I've come to expect from them had not suffered. I've moved a couple of times in my life and when going to a new dentist I've always gotten "you have a cavity" where they were trying make extra money from me. Those sort of diagnoses were always suspicious because I've never had any problems with my teeth, so when I was back in town I would always seek a second opinion from Lofstrom, where he would calmly say everything is fine and explain the game the other dentists were playing. Lofstrom used to be a teacher at U of M dental and has taught most of the other surgeons in town their stuff. Bottom line is if you want a good dentist/surgeon, he is the guy to go to.

I started seeing Dr. Bunek in 2015 (Has it really been that long?!) at her previous practice. I then followed her to her own practice and I love seeing her in her element! Her studio is ultra chic, located across from the "Big House" with a bit of a Go Blue feel throughout - a nod to Dr. Bunek's training, I suspect. Her all female staff is super friendly and I have loved every hygienist that I've seen. Her style and detailed-oriented, aesthetic eye come through in her work, as well.
