I saw Julian for my skin 4-5 years ago when I was getting off of birth control and my hormones went insane which resulted in many breakouts around my jawline. I had little bumps that wouldn't go away and after my first visit with her (not being forced on any products) she had me do a treatment and gave me samples to take home. After two weeks I had no more bumps/pimples. I was really surprised how well her products worked and over the years I was able to keep the acne away! I then decided to get back on birth control and off of it and had the same hormonal issues so I contacted her again recently. She welcomed me with open arms and she is the only esthetician I trust. I got completely ripped off. I got a brown spot removal Groupon for $49 and was persuaded to buy a peel for another $49 because it will allow the brown spot removal laser procedure to be more effective. I asked her whether she had time to do both, since a peel is normally an hour. She said the peel would take 25 minutes, no problem. The peel procedure took 3 minutes, and the brown spot removal took maybe another 5 minutes. I spent close to a hundred dollars for two unprofessional procedures that took less than 15 minutes by a facial technician. She gives a very good talk, but trust me, she is not worth it. I feel so obligated to warn all of you ladies out there to not spend your hard-earned money here. She is out to rip people off. And by the way, the brown spots on my face are still the same color. They did not lighten up one bit. A total waste of money. read more

UPDATE: I tried to give as balanced of a review as I could. Right after I posted my review, Julian left me a voice mail and a 7 text messages telling me how unappreciated and cheated she feels by my review. I think it says something about an owner when they can't take constructive feedback. If the microderm appointment wasn't supposed to be 60 min, the Living Social deal should have said 30min or whatever the correct amount of time was. ---- I would give this place 2.5 stars. I first came to Julian's after buying a LivingSocial deal. You can't get any better than $39 for a 60-min microderm appt. PROS: Microdermabrasion works for me. It cleared some bumps I had underneath the surface and evened out my skin tone after 3 visits (she gave me a discount on the second two visits). The equipment she uses is good. There is a strong suction that makes me feel like it's working. Julian also is generous with samples. After the microderm, she applies a thin coat of glycolic cleanser that she helps makes the microderm work even better. Even though the microderm was good, I felt some of the comments Julian made during our consultation were off putting so I can't give this place three stars. CONS: I was in an out in 40 min for the first session and 25 for my third session. The appointment is supposed to be 60 minutes. This third appointment in particular left me feeling quite cheated. She does promote her products and packages. Not so much that it is offensive but enough that makes you feel like she's focusing on the up sale rather than being in the present and taking care of you right there and then. read more

It was my lunch hour and I work nearby. Unfortunately, the new machine did not do the same job. My skin didn't look or feel different at all. She talked me into buying a package of three before I realized this. I did not have all the money so I gave her a down payment on the package. Due to some unusual circumstances I ended up moving to San Diego shortly after. It has been two years and she's been promising to pay me the refund of the money that she owes me and I still have yet to see it. Ok, I recently got a microdermabrasion from Julian's skin studio and I must admit for the first impression I would give it 3 stars, it also means I'm not coming back. Here's why: I got on time, Julian greeted me, asked me to fill in a few papers and started her initial consultation that lasted probably about 20-25 mins, she offered me a package for 6 session for $600 and when I mentioned it was too expensive she offered me a package for 3 sessions for $399. I said I would think about it so she proceeded with microdermabrasion. While she was doing it she was offering me quite a few products that would help maintain good results, it felt just as bit pushy so I said I'd get back to her on those products too. She finished microderm. and asked me if I'd like a peel, she mentioned 2 types and I've chosen one of them even though I was kind of doubting it cuz the price was a bit high $85 for a peel, considering that I came with the coupon for $39 though living social. Anyway, I went ahead and agreed. She started applying it then she's heard a new client just came in though the door so she told me it'll be a minute and left the room to speak to the client. Then she came back and kinda started rushing things, she applied a peel for about 5-7 mins then she applied a mask and left it for 5min then she left again, when she came back she was about to take the mask off my face and I asked her to keep it on for another 5 mins because I wanted better results, she agreed for another 3 mins. She left again then came back and started telling me that the client is complaining and that we kinda need to wrap up here. I was frankly disappointed cuz I though the session would last longer but apparently we spent too much time on consultation, she said, therefore my one hour session is now up. That felt like I was kind of cheated and rushed out of the door. I paid and left quickly, went in to my car and check myself in the mirror, I noticed that most of my face was quite clean except for a few tough spots like on my chin and my nose, the pores in some areas there were still dirty so when I got home I actually extracted those areas, popping black heads here and there. I thought I'd never have to do that after a full face microdermabrasion. I didn't notice any significant improvement after the peel she applied too. A week later my skin got back to same condition it was before, black heads in t-zone area, I though the treatment would give longer lasting results but for some reason it didn't. Now I'm browsing on yelp looking for another place for microdermabrasion for around $40 instead of $180 that she quoted to me at the consultation. I also need a glycolic peel on top, so I don't want to spend more than $100 for both including tips, I know I can find it easily, I've been given quotes before, I've done peels for $40 not $85 so I'll be making my new appointments this week. read more

When I phone in for the appointment, Julian told me it will take 2 hours. The actual appointment, I was in and out less than 40min! From dermabrasion information online, people would see a difference on skin after just one treatment. But I don't feel or see a different after the dermabrasion, other than skin was quite dry. Julian is a sincere person that truly wants to help you with your skin problems. My main focus is acne scars. Embarrassed as I am, Julian never made me feel uncomfortable with the subject. I was educated on skin care and the samples she gave me really helped. After 2 treatments, I saw a major difference on my face. My complexion was better, scars are smoother, and my pores are smaller. Julian is experienced in the industry. Trust her advice in taking better care of your face. Overall, Julian is awesome! She gave a great package that's affordable. One of the best Living Social deals I've purchased, such a great value for the price. After just one microdermabrasion session it helped clear some minor bumps I had on my cheeks and evened out my skin tone. I'm sure if I went back for more treatments I would see even better results. Julian was very friendly and helpful and had a lot of good advice on skin care, plus she gives you tons of samples to try. Granted she will try to sell you a package for future visits (and the price does jump up considerably compared to the deal) but heck she does need to make money after that steal of a deal she offered on LS, right? :) She's not at all pushy about making you sign up though and leaves it totally open for you to decide for later. It's a small place and just Julian there so keep in mind that she may be hard to get a hold of to schedule an appointment. I got my initial coupon from Livingsocial. The place is small, clean, quite. Julian herself is welcoming, professional. She is not kind of esthetician who constantly talks to you about your shoes or you jeans, but she does explain everything she (a) does to your skin (b) everything you should be doing to it. She is very patient while doing that, you can ask and re-ask, tell what you do etc. I myself appreciate that she does not chitchat all the time on unrelated topics, as it is easier to relax. She does advocate what she does and cosmetics she use. It is nice of her to be such a believer. She wants people to have healthy skin, and not only trying to sell you products, but also asks how much water you drink. She does not pushes her cosmetics, but suggests it! If you have just purchased something, bring it to her, she will look at the list of ingredients and will tell you what she thinks. (Again, it is normal she cannot know list of ingredients of anything out these, or use price as a guarantee of quality) Otherwise, of cause, in order to allow you better results she IS interested in cosmetics you are using. In my situation, I had some recent acne left from scarring and my skin has only started recovering from acne. It was also quite dehydrated because I got too eager in the first stages of acne treatments. Julian was very careful, did the microderm, masks. I looked much-much better right after, and the skin looked even better 2 days after. She does not mechanically clean your skin or damage it in any other way. (Y) The session took 30-40 minutes. Julian is a skin saver and I cannot say enough about the good work she does. I've pretty much tried it all when it comes to skin / dermal care, and very few things work. I walked in to Julian's studio with problem skin, and I am happy to say that just after a couple of weeks I saw a dramatic improvement in the smoothness of my skin. Julian is amazing. I had rather large pores, an oily complexion, sensitive skin and a lot of bumps under the surface of my skin (... not to mention a couple of wrinkles here and there too). Julian took some time carefully analyzing my skin, and taking down my skin history, current products I was using, foods I was eating, my lifestyle etc etc. Julian is VERY thorough, and very dedicated to helping people improve their skin. Guys, admit it: you know you want great-looking skin just as much as women do. It was my first time with microdermabrasion and I went in knowing that it would probably require a few sessions to make a difference, and that it just doesn't work on some people. I don't think I have particularly bad skin but I saw the $39 deal on Living Social a few months ago and went for it just for fun. Julian seems to be a one-woman operation so it took a few days of phone tag to make an appointment, but I finally got a hold of her and got an afternoon slot. She did send me an SNS reminder the day before to confirm my appointment. Her studio is a little difficult to find off De Anza but it's welcoming and quiet inside; she took time in the beginning to ask what I was looking for in the session and to explain the risks of the procedure. She had great rapport during the session and explained everything she was doing to my face. She gave me a few samples of the products she used after the session, although I didn't quite remember the complete schedule of products she recommended (there are many!). Now for the important part: I did notice a visible difference two days after the session! Nothing dramatic, but there was an improvement in the overall smoothness in my skin and a reduction of lines on my forehead. Given my expectations going into the session, I'm satisfied with the results. I'd definitely consider going back in a few months for another session. read more

Bought a $49 Groupon to try Julian face peels. It stated that it is for ultimate herbal, Apple, or Vitamin C Oxygen Peels, but you only get the basic cheap chemical peel and would have to pay more for other peels. The chemical peels are extremely abrasive and my skin felt extremely dry afterwards. I use fruit peel myself (you can buy the organic peels from Wholefood for $20 for over 10 uses), and the results are much better and less uncomfortable. But the reason I gave Julian a one star is that she talked me into combining the Microdemabrasion along with the peel for best results. Just like all the other reviewer said, it was a 10 min job for $75 and she doesn't give any regular facial type of treatments. I have done Microdemabrasion facial many times and it is a minimum 90 min facial with all the cleaning, massage, ultrasound, microdemabrasion, skin serum and mask, etc. But with Julian, it was just a simple quick brush and she doesn't even do the neck. The whole treatment with Groupon cost me $125 in less than 30 minutes. She spend a lot of time trying to sell you other products. One thing also surprises me is that she told me that she used to do facials, but the results were not good as peels especially for her time sensitive clients like the Apple and the Cisco employees. I think for the amount of the money she charges by doing the peels, why would she spend the time to do facials. I also worked in the high tech field, and I would never compromise my time for a relaxing facial, so I don't know what she is talking about by saving time doing facial ?! I was honestly looking for someone to provide regular dermabrasion treatments. I've had many over the past 10 years so feel competent to evaluate. My criteria is 1) quality of service 2) value for service (affordability) 3) location convenience 4) ease of scheduling. After Julian, I must add another evaluation...pleasantness. I bought 2 Living Social coupons. In the first 5 minutes of my first visit, Julian was insulting, angry, and pushy. She was angry that I purchased two coupons and accused me of trying to put people out of business. I honestly do read the fine print before buying. She said I should only have one coupon. I said sometimes friends purchase gifts for me. She said I needed to inform my friends of my coupon purchases so that doesn't happen! What!!! She said I should put my coupons on an excel spread sheet so I don't purchase a product twice!!!! I went home and checked my second coupon. It DID say I could purchase 2. I scheduled a second visit. I figured Julian was having a bad day the first time and would apologize and all would be fine. Ha! She not only did NOT apologize, but was again over the top angry...lecturing, demeaning, rude. I was in tears within 5 minutes. Both times I had to calm HER down. I would have walked out, but she had my coupon. My rating: 2 on quality of service: she is worse than anyone I've ever gone to. She shorted me on the treatment time. I got about 10 minutes of microdermabrasion. She did not even cover 1/3 of my face. All other places do the complete face, the neck, and repeat the worst areas. She was done with me in 35 minutes from entering to leaving her office. She gave a big sales pitch. I already use recommneded products that work for me. I told her this and she pushed. She talked negatively about the people who use coupons. I was so tense with her anger and negativity. 1 on value for service: She charges a lot for little. All the other places I've gone also do a lite neck and shoulder massage as well as treat the entire face and neck. She did not even provide the service advertised and paid for. 4 on location and ease of scheduling 1 for lack of social skills, professionalism, and basic pleasantness. I own my own business. I really care about my customers. She appears to only care about money and how to part you from yours. And this is NOT a spa. Look up the definition. A spa must provide a mineral or hot bath. If we extend the definition to include a relaxing and rejuvenating experience...definitely NOT at Julian's. read more

Purchased a $50 Groupon for a Microdermabrasion. The Groupon expired, but Julian was kind enough to apply it to her current Groupon special, which I assume she didn't have to do. Two stars for this! I received a microdermabrasion that took less than 10 minutes to perform including pulling my hair back and cleaning down my face. Julian made only eleven passes which were above my lips, and around the corners of my lips and across my forehead, totally ignoring the sun spots on my face. Julian convinced me that a $75.00 peel after the dermabrasion would help slough off the dead skin, which it didn't. I had the dermabrasion and peel and was out of the office in less than 25 minutes. I have done microdermabrasion several times and it normally takes at least 30 to 40 minutes to do the complete face. It's unfortunate that some Groupon vendors treat Groupon clients with less than professional service. I'm a potential new client. I purchase Groupon's specifically to try new services that I want to use on a regular basis, and Julian's won't be one. read more

Don't waste your money. I bought the $49 Groupon for the IPL treatment. It was nothing like I've had in the past ( very fast and almost pain free. ) I had protection over my eyes so I have no idea if it was even a good laser or a laser at all. And to make things worse she talked me in I'm getting a chemical peel. This was before we started so I had no idea it was going to be so bad. That was another $49 . You call that a chemical peel? I don't think so. Felt like a strong toner that's it! I'm so annoyed.
