They sometimes don't communicate when classes are cancelled or they send out a mass email, but some people are left off. I've made the trip into the studio more than once to find out my class is cancelled. They make numerous accounting errors. Don't give them your credit card for automatic payments! Actually, you might be better off not giving them your money at all. Last year they had a "youth company". They charged $150 in production fees in addition to charging for rehearsals. They did rehearse, but there were never any productions. They didn't refund our "production fees". There are some very good teachers, though, and they're the only reason I'm not giving this 1 star... However, One of their very best teachers, Miss Christina, recently left. If you like the teachers, I recommend finding out if they teach somewhere else. I reviewed this place in 2014 and gave it 4 stars because for a brief time it looked as if things were getting better. Sadly, they're not.

For whatever reason, for such a deep resume/repertoire Tony Williams and his staff CAN NOT pull of a recital. The show is always ridiculously priced. The show should NEVER cost more than $20 a ticket! They also should be able to tell you when your class will be on stage. It really is a pain to find out your kid already went on when you were told they were going on later based on practices. Also the "stage manager" really needs to tone it down. These are children. Not teenagers but small kids. They don't need someone yelling as if these were the Oscars. She seems to take the fun out of these events.

Hello, my fellow Yelpers!…read more Today, I'm going to review the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Dedham, MA. The location: It's in the back of a strip mall right off of Route 1, so it takes a bit to find, so thank goodness for GPS! It appears to be new as they have what looks like a temporary banner in place of what should be a sign. The prospect: Upon entering, we were greeted by Scott, the owner...and he got us started with our first dance lesson...(we had called ahead and made an appointment). He was an absolute pleasure to work with and really takes his time to get to know you and what you're looking to get out of taking dance lessons in the first place. He is very patient and for an absolute beginner like myself, it was very much welcome. The classes: Each class or lesson is 45 minutes long...and you learn quite a bit in that time. They offer many different classes, but most notably are the group classes for beginners of which there are 3 per week. There are more advanced classes and you can schedule private lessons as well. In fact, they sell packages of private lessons, consisting of either 5 or 8 lessons, I believe...but the good news is that for the money you pay, you can attend as many other group classes as you'd like. Scott is a wonderful teacher, but there are two others there as well, and while everyone has their own style of teaching, all are excellent and really take their time teaching you the concepts of dance. The pricing: My wife and I got the 5 private lesson package, and at $562, it was a little pricey...but then I considered the other lessons that I could take for free and you can schedule your private lessons every few weeks to stretch your dollars further. For us, it is about $50 a week, and that is for a full 90-120 minutes, 2-3 times a week. A small investment to learn a skill and spend some time together doing something that we can both enjoy. All in all, I would say that it is a great time and Scott really goes the extra mile to make you feel like one of his "family"...so if you want to learn dance, go to Arthur Murray in Dedham, you'll be glad you did!

I would recommend taking the class more than once before progressing because I felt like I learned so much the second time. I took the class with instructor Isobel Chang and enjoyed her teaching style. There are all ages and all body types and all genders, with no problems. So if you're interested, go for it

Perhaps, it was my love of all things spandex or the need to finally live up to the Abba song my parents still sing to me, "Nina, the Pretty Ballerina," but I made the leap (pun intended) and signed up for the adult absolute beginner class. This class will not disappoint! The instructor, Claire, is a magic maker. She took a girl (ahem..me) whose lack of coordination has resulted in two broken arms (mind you, at the same time) and numerous other embarrassing moments and turned her into a girl who can now plie in front of a mirror without laughing at herself. I wish I wasn't moving this summer otherwise I would definitely continue the classes. Here's the low-down: Attire ~ Think yoga. You don't have rock the leotard like Beyonce but you can if you want. I wore spandex on bottom and a shirt or tank top on top. Show your calves and your feet. It helps to wear different colors - one on top and a different one on the bottom. This will allow your instructor (and you) to see when parts of your body move that shouldn't (i.e. hips). They sell ballet slippers at the studio. You can buy them there but you will have to sew the straps on at home. Color choices: pink and black. Demographics ~ As mentioned above I had none, I mean zilch experience with ballet or dance. There were people in the class who had some gymnastics/ice skating/ballet/cheer-leading/jazz dance etc... Ages range from high school students to happy retired people. Class sizes are usually around 10 but will vary. Mainly ladies who take the class but men are definitely welcome (there was one guy in the first series of classes I took and he was way better than me). Cost ~ I think I paid around $120 for 8 weeks or something like that. Well worth the money. Add the cost of ballet slippers if you don't have them. I was like this girl when I started: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7fAvXH25Ng so if I can do it...anyone can do it!
