This is located across from Anthony's and under (basement) of Aunt Jenny's. Dive? Yes! Cool? Yes! If you want to hang out in a dive bar, drink cold beer and listen to live music....well come on down! The bartender was hustling and as quick as he could be (only one). But it wasn't too crazy. There are some tables and a U shaped bar to sit. The crowd is friendly too! This place feels like a dive bar! Dark and tucked away. But the 2 piece band was fun and pretty good. American Idols? No, but live music to chill out with, definitely! Parking is tight during the peak dining hours of the 2 restaurants but we walked out of Anthony's at 9:30 and it seemed like there were a few open spots. There are some Elvis photos and dare I say "shrine " LOL but my husband got a kick out of it. After all, Elvis was here in the 50 or 60's when he was seeing a Biloxi girl. My wife and I had to brave a thunderstorm to make it to this out of the way bar and in so glad we did. The Julep Room proudly wears its rich past. As a lover of beer and a geek for history the fact that the bartender could pour a perfect pint AND had a wealth of knowledge on the history of the bar was the coolest thing in the world. I am definitely hitting this place up again next time I head to the Mississippi coast. read more

If you ever find yourself on the coast of the southern states, go here. Ocean Springs is as pretty as it's name implies. But the Julep Room which is under Aunt Jenny's Catfish restaurant is a fun place to kick back and soak up some live music. Every night they have live acts and great drink specials. The ancient oak trees that speckle the parking lot are such welcome shade when the Mississippi sun is forcing you to melt into nothing. Get down into that cool cellar and soak up the atmosphere of where Elvis use to hang out in the 50's & 60's... Yeah that's right, that was one of his favourite spots when he toured the coast... This is exactly what I have pictured when reading novels set in the South....you know the bar where the male character gets hammered - where all the locals go...yup this is it. It's dark and small with stone exposed walls, dark weathered wood and classic decor. There is live music every night and you really get up close and personal with the artists, I loved that. Best part is that the drinks are cheap and the bartender is actually friendly. If I lived here this would be my watering hole. read more

Fantastic little bar. I came here on a Saturday night and heard some great blues music. I used to live in Nashville and honestly the singer they had here was better than most performers in Nashville. Nicest bartenders around! We felt super welcome at this bar. It's the oldest bar on the coast and we now know why they've stayed open for so long... You can expect a crowd from 21 to 105 here. Mixed crowd that makes for an interesting night. Ocean Springs best kept secret! read more

Definitely not one of the super-hip places like on Govt. street or the clubs at the casinos, but I always had a lot of enjoyment at this location. They do have live acts in some form or another every night and they are always decent if not damn good. Not really any room to dance, but plenty of seating alternately. maybe one or two couples could dance if they were really insistent, but nothing like a two step that takes you all over the floor.... plus you'd kinda be in the walkway to/from the door, ha. Mostly a 30+ crowd, but when I went... I was only 21/22 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved going there after a frustrating night of Calculus at the comm. college and relaxing to some jimmy buffett inspired music. If you want to dance at all with the small town vibe, and don't wanna go to the casinos, go to Govt. street grocery or Leo's downtown govt. street, though. read more

Great little hidden gem. Check the local listings and go on open mic night or when a local band is playing. Heard a couple of talented songwriters and a couple of other musicians doing a great job on some covers. The people here are friendly and the bartender on the night I went was quick and attentive. Good mature crowd. Non smoking inside which is good. Needs some music though, rather than making customers buy music on the juke box. Should play some jazz or blues or alternative music piped in rather than a juke box. Other than the music issue it's a comfortable place to have a drink. Kinda dark, but appropriate for the atmosphere. Nice bartender , Jay. Needs a better upscale liquor choice rather than "well" drinks. Go there and judge for yourself. read more
