After sweating from working in the Southern sun, I'd walk across the train tracks and head to this spot to meet mates for some cool beer. If you ever find yourself on the coast of the southern states, go here. Ocean Springs is as pretty as it's name implies. But the Julep Room which is under Aunt Jenny's Catfish restaurant is a fun place to kick back and soak up some live music. Every night they have live acts and great drink specials. The ancient oak trees that speckle the parking lot are such welcome shade when the Mississippi sun is forcing you to melt into nothing. Get down into that cool cellar and soak up the atmosphere of where Elvis use to hang out in the 50's & 60's... Yeah that's right, that was one of his favourite spots when he toured the coast... Very cool.

This is exactly what I have pictured when reading novels set in the South....you know the bar where the male character gets hammered - where all the locals go...yup this is it. It's dark and small with stone exposed walls, dark weathered wood and classic decor. There is live music every night and you really get up close and personal with the artists, I loved that. Best part is that the drinks are cheap and the bartender is actually friendly. If I lived here this would be my watering hole.

Entrance to the Julep. It looks like a dive bar because that's what it is. And it's a great one

Great dive bar. Friendly locals. Friendly barkeeps. Also located in the same parking lot as Aunt Jenny's and Anthony's under the oaks. Both great sinning establishments. So while you can't get food at the Julep, I would strongly suggest it as a spot for before or after dinner at one of the aforementioned restaurants.

Hadley Hill... great entertainer for the night

Very cool place to hang out. Lots of history. The bartender is super nice. The drinks are good and the beer is cold.

We had a reservation, the hostess was friendly, we were seated right in front the stage. Our server was great. Friendly and full of conversation. I ordered the avocado toast with egg over medium and they were cooked perfectly. The taste was good and the bread was fluffy. My husband ordered the omelet which came with potato wedges and he ordered a side of cheesy grits. There was a problem with the grits, not having the cheese and not hot (warm) and the wedges were almost cold. They were delicious with whatever the seasoning and butter sauce was. I give them a 5 star because they didn't hesitate to get the order corrected. Plus the wedges that were given as the correction, came in a bowl. The wedges that came with the omelet was only about 5 or 6 at the most. I got a birthday dessert which was a warm brownie with ice cream and caramel drizzle. This was really yummy I did order a mocktail, I showed a picture of something I had before and they did a good job of being creative. The artist was really good that day, enjoyed her voice and her songs. Not my usual music but I can vibe with most music and we enjoyed her.

I loved this place so much!…read more It's quirky, it's nostalgic, it's fun. We were there for lunch, so no live music, but there is a full calendar of acts. The food was fantastic! The sweet potato casserole was the best I've had, and the potato salad was fully loaded. Loved the sauce varieties, and had the mud pie for dessert which was scrumptious. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Lots of seating, lots of parking, lots to do...gift shop, glamping, the bayou, and of course "the poo with a view", lol.

Not good at all…read more Ordered 1/2# brisket + 1/2# pulled pork + 1/2 rack of baby-back ribs + a pint of beans & a pint of cole slaw + some original BBQ sauce = $68. The good: our $4.50 Shiner Bock was ice cold. That's all that we enjoyed. Ribs were overcooked and beyond tender - no smoked taste - meat was mushy fall off the bone - the texture was terrible. . Pulled pork was flavorless - it was devoid of any seasonings - we couldn't taste any seasonings or smoke flavors. Brisket had a great bark but otherwise it was dry and over cooked. Ordered 1/2 flat & 1/2 moist, which surprisingly puzzled the order taker as though he had never heard brisket has 2 distinct textures. All we got was dry flat slices. And they offer no burnt ends: "we're so busy, we would have no time to serve burnt ends." BBQ sauce was almost black and tasted burned. It was inedible. Beans were thin and pale and way too soupy. The cole slaw was soupy and very sweet. Since this place is apparently popular, and our servings were so different from BBQ in Texas and FL and SC, MS folks like a very strange facsimile of real BBQ. All in all, the Shed was just not good. Any Sonny's anywhere is miles better. We most certainly won't be back.

In town for a few hours on business, & as usual, I researched a restaurant to try…read more Went at approx 3p on a weekday for a late lunch; ample, free parking lot newly resurfaced directly in front of of the establishment. Initial impressions: wow, this entire place is the color black, as in too black, floors, walls, ceilings, and, everyone is seated & being served in the front area. I clearly recall thinking to myself that my attendance will be lack luster; I elected a standard height booth, located only in the back area. Sometimes I do loathe to be right based on experience alone & this was no exception. A lovely female server verbally assured me that she'd attend to me in just a moment. Unfortunately, my experience was that she'd offer water/ drinks when she had fully attended to all of the patrons in the front area. By the time she did, it was clear that she felt relief to have settled the business, for the moment, of the front- dining customers, now able to address my visit. I've lived in Biloxi for a few years & felt confident that my expectations of Jacks were adjusted for the area. The wine offerings were equivalent to middle-bottom grocery store shelf; no thank you. I ordered the Jackimo & Bayou rolls; I like sushi. Given my druthers, I'd eat it for all three daily meals. Definitely agree wholeheartedly with the few other reviewers that these rolls are almost nothing but solid, not good quality sushi rice. One tiny crossection of a crawfish, cream cheese, and a shrimp, measuring 1/2 an inch in diameter, is the only part of my rice loaf that is not, well, rice. How dare you, Owner of Jacks, charge SO entirely much for the nearly non-existent "sushi centers"?! Shame on you for delivering the verbiage of the actual contents of these...loaves of rice, as bountiful flavor bombs. No amount of sauce drizzle will compensate for the utter lack of...ingredients other than rice. I do totally get why Pgoula patrons like the hodgepodge menu which lacks a clear identity, genuinely. 'Sushi rolls' are grossly overpriced; wine menu offers a poor & tiny selection. Not at mid-volume of diners, the poor server could not manage to help this first time customer feel definitively as the afterthought once the front room was pacified. I honestly think that this eatery meets the tone and vibe of Pgoula & locals clearly show their enjoyment of it with repeat business. It offers a great weekday sushi roll special, if you're into their versions. Try not to sit beyond the front dining, bartop tabletops & consider yourself warned of the very sticky floors. I'm glad the locals enjoy Jacks; it's begging to be an episode of Restaurant Impossible. I wish it the best.

This is a VERY COOL venue! I have been to concerts,…read moresymphonies and small venue presentations all over the USA, but I have never been a venue like this. The Listening Room is truly for LISTENING. For a small donation of $20 you are allowed to listen to artists perform in a intimate venue. Prior to the concert, the owner Jim Pennington, informs you of the rules. To paraphrase Jim, "If you want to talk, drink and be rude, go down the street to a bar." I ADORE this concept of "no talking" while someone is performing. How often have you been to a venue where you couldn't hear the performer due to all the background noise? NOT happening here! Jim is the consummate host, selling assorted beverages and CD's of the performer with proceeds going to the artist. I highly recommend this venue to anyone in the Mobile or surrounding area. I do not live locally, only visiting once a year, but TLR has become a "must do" for our trips to Alabama.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but the feeling of the listening room was so unique and intimate- I loved it! The artist was a local star, but I knew nothing about him. Every song he played was so personal and wonderful. The crowd was respectful and everyone had their phones away during there concert. I was told that the Listening Room is special in this way, because people go there to listen- not to talk or stare at their phones. The set was almost 2 hours, but it felt much shorter due to the small and intimate space the music was being played in. I seriously loved going to a show at the Listening Room and I'd love to go back if I'm ever in Mobile!
