I had to go back to get errors corrected four times!!! FOUR TIMES!!! That's not normal. I've never had to do that at any other dental office and when I complained about Dr. Judd made it seem like that was normal. IT'S NOT!!!!and my tooth still hurts and still wasn't fixed. You probably should have done an X-ray because something is wrong with the filling you did. The Inlay doesn't hurt but it has such a weird snap in my mouth. No thanks. Don't recommend. read more

I went in for a cracked tooth and was told I needed a crown. They didn't indicate it was urgent but said I could get it done while I was there since they had an opening in their schedule or I could make an appointment for later. I elected to have it done while I was there. By the time the crownwork was done, I had four trips to the dentist because their 3 temporaries disintegrated almost immediately and the original permanent crown did not fit correctly and had to be redone. But it wasn't just the crownwork that was bad, there was also the billing issue. Several months after the procedure, I was contacted by Judd that I owed them over $150. I didn't understand why and called them. It felt like a shakedown and I paid them. Then I called the insurance company to confirm what they told me. First, Judd said the original payment was just an estimate and insurance companies usually come back later with a more accurate figure. That was a lie, the insurance company told me I am paying more because Judd did not get pre-authorization as required. Judd said they were never told. That was a lie, at the time of the procedure, Laura from Judd's office called the insurance company, requested my benefit policy and they sent it which clearly states the crown requires a pre- authorization. Then, Judd said it was because it was done as an emergency. That was a lie, it was not. They still have my +$150, I don't know if they'll ever return it. If you decide to go to them despite poor dental work and deceptive billing, do not believe anything that Evie tells you. All her excuses were lies shot down by the insurance company, and they took my money based on those lies. read more

I started with Dr. Judd in 2021 after she was highly recommended by a friend. The office is state of the art, comfortable, welcoming, and pleasant, and Dr. Judd is very patient focused. I have seen two hygienists who are excellent, even when I had back pain they offered accommodations for my comfort during procedures. They share your x-rays on a screen and explain everything thoroughly and provide options. I had a broken crown and tooth underneath which was done by a fdental practice, and needed either a flipper or a dental implant. Both were explain thoroughly and I was allowed to make my own decision. She made a great recommendation for the extraction and implant procedure and I've been thoroughly pleased with the whole process. I will recommend Jud dentistry to everyone I know. read more

Dr. Robert Amatuli is amazing! I've never had a dentist like him before. He is so thoughtful and caring. I let him know initially that I have some teeth with sensitivity by the gum line, and he was attentive to how I was feeling during my cleaning and periodically asked if I was doing okay. I can see that he truly values providing the best experience for his patients and making sure I'm completely comfortable while I'm in his chair. I also thought it was great that Dr. Amatuli showed me my x-rays (the assistant Rose did an amazing job with taking them), and explained what he was looking for, which was really cool to me. I have never had a dentist do that and by doing so, I felt like he was communicating very clearly with me about my dental health. He also complimented the work of my past dentists, which I thought was very humble of him. He was super thorough and gentle during my cleaning. He also took the time to personally walk me out. How you are treated when you are no longer a patient says as much about a medical practice as how you are treated when they're trying to get you in the chair. I visited Dr. Judd in May for pain in mouth that I suspected was a cavity. I hadn't been a patient before and when I called explaining my discomfort, I expected an oral exam that would include diagnosis of this problem. When I arrived, had some obligatory x-rays done and the doctor was called in, she asked me if I was ready to fill my cavities. I told her that I wasn't expecting to get the fillings today, just an exam to see what was wrong. Her reply, "I'm ready to go, I thought you were ready to fill the cavities." She filled my cavities. This was after x-rays of just one side of my mouth and no complete oral exam. Fast-forward a week, I'm still experiencing the same kind of pain as before the fillings. I call her office and she personally calls me back to follow up (one point for her). We talk about what's going on and she recommends that I go back to see my endodontist, because she knew that I had recently had a root canal and was scheduled to go back for a follow up. Huh? This is your work that we're talking about. Why would I ask another dentist to tell me why the cavities you filled are still hurting? Anyway, I make an appointment to come into her office about the pain. She looks in my mouth, does MORE x-rays of the same teeth (that she subsequently charges me for) and concludes that she doesn't know what's going on. She prescribes me omoxycillan to "calm the mouth down" and says she will follow up with me in a few days. She never follows up. I do indeed ask my endodontist about the pain at my follow up visit and he says it might just be my mouth still healing from the trauma of the filling. If the pain persists for more than a couple of months, it could signal something else. Wow, why couldn't she have told me that? She seemed utterly clueless. At this point, I'm convinced that she is not the type of dentist that I'd like to keep seeing. I cancel a subsequent appointment that I have with her and go on about my life. In July, I start getting bills from her office. Which confuse me because I paid my $80 estimated co-pay for the fillings and I didn't get any more work done, right? Wrong. She charged me $40 for the second time I went into her office. Remember, when she didn't know what was wrong, gave me random pills and never followed up? When I called to get some sort of explanation of why I was being billed, I was told the person that handles billing was busy or out. Two days in a row. When Laura finally calls me, she is pretty rude. She says that she is confused to why I'm calling her and that I should just pay the bill. I tell her that I don't think it's fair to be charged for an "exam" that could have been avoided if Dr. Judd had done her due diligence the first visit and that wasn't exactly comprehensive. After all, I went in as a follow up to an earlier appointment, not with a whole new issue. That should be a courtesy, as I've experienced with other doctors and dentists. Laura doesn't understand this. She is very curt and continuously interrupts me. She keeps saying that filing things to a person's insurance is a "courtesy," as if I should be thanking them for doing their job. Long story made slightly shorter, she does agree to take the second exam fee off my bill. This place nickel-and-dimes you for service. They charge everything they can to your insurance, which seems to be generally the way dentists in Maryland work, I'm coming to find out. I wouldn't recommend this office for the quality of work nor for the poor customer service. read more

Dr. Judd and her staff are awesome! This practice has been around for a few years but the offices look very new. Dr. Judd's office also uses the latest in technoogy from being able to make an appintment online to having computerized dental records. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Dr. Judd also specilaozes in children dental care and the children seem to love her a lot. Also Dr. Judd does not use an answering service at night or on the weekend so when you call her office Dr. Judd is the one who picks up the phone. She really cares for all who see her. If you need her to come in on the weekend she is more than glad to do so. I needed to have my wisdom teeth exteacted and she referred me to a dentist who o did notile during the initial consultation visit. When I told Dr. Judd of my hesitation she quickly made a note of my concerns and told me that she would kit be recmendinf this dentist to others and gave me another referral to another dentist who she thought I would like based on my previous appintments with her. And I liked the second one as she predicted. As for treatments Dr. Judd employs the latest technology in her practice. So much so that on one visit I asked her about Waterlase. She did not have it at the time. But because several patients asked about it she went and got trained on the system and emlous it within her practice. For someone who normally hates dentists I highly recommend Dr. Judd's practice! read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. I hate going to the dentist. A few months ago I found out that I had an exposed nerve. When I went back for a follow appointment Dr. Judd told me she could fix it with a filler. I'm 29 and I've never had a cavity so I was dreading getting the needle in my gum line. Dr. Judd assured me that I wouldn't even feel it. I of course didn't believe her :) But she distracted me so well that I ACTUALLY did not feel the needle at all. Dr. Judd is tied for being my favorite dentist. It is a newer practice on the first floor of my office building, so I initially went there because it was convenient. After my first visit I kept going because she is a great dentist. Her office staff and dental assistants are great. Dr. Judd has brand new, state of the art equipment and is located in a new office building. Everything is modern and you get bonuses like being able to control the flat screen TV from your chair. Although I have not been to any dentists other than her in the Columbia area, I am going to go out on a limb and say that Dr. Judd in the best dentist in Columbia, Maryland. Judd Dentistry was one of the better Dentist exps I have ad in Columbia. Not saying I have had bad ones, but this was better than the rest. First off they offer a pretty high tech office. They took digital xrays of the teeth, then took digital pictures of the teeth all while watching LCD screens. Secondly the staff is friendly and informative, they answer all the questions you throw at them. I can not speak to some of the billing issues that some of the neg. reviews bring up. Thirdly, the amount of pictures, xrays, just information that Judd collects on your first first is great to see. Also the cleaning is nice, gently enough where one doesnt need to be numbed and quick enough where you arent spending 3 hrs at the dentist office. Overall if you are in the market for a new dentist, give Judd a try. So lay off the candy and floss daily so I don't see you at the dentist! read more

This place will try to squeeze you out of your money for unnecessary procedures! I went in for a routine cleaning and they flat refused to do it and said they could only do the more expensive procedure. They also attempted to get me to get 8 fillings which after a 2nd opinion they said it was not at all needed! Now they are trying to bill me for a missed appt which I cancelled. They should lose their license based off these clear violations of patient rights. They are not even on BBB! read more

Will not supply service without copying your drivers license. IMHO, the drivers license supplies way too much personal information and opens one up to identity theft. Her office is immaculate and her staff is knowledgeable, professional, and has responded to all of my inquiries promptly. This review is a toss-up between their dental services and billing issue. I'm going to go over their dental services first as they do exceptional work. My dentist is Dr. Almusa and she is wonderful. She's very meticulous/thorough and loved the work that she did on my tooth. The staff, Dr. Almusa's dental assistants (Melissa & Kellie), whom I met at two different times during my procedure, were very warm and friendly. I also had the pleasure of meeting Tad; he was my hygienist during my very first visit at Dr. Judd's office. He was funny and made me comfortable as I was very nervous especially with a cracked tooth. The front desk ladies are friendly and efficient, Lesley and Kelsey. I also talked to Laura who was very responsive and emailed me detailed explanation on my treatment plan in regards to my billing issue. The office is very comfortable and I never had to sit and wait at the front area for so long. Scheduling appointments are always a breeze and love the email reminders. I gave them four stars for the dental services I received, good staff that I encountered and office environment. Now on to my billing review: I had never been to any medical/dental procedure that they asked you to pay before anything was done or completed. It felt wrong when I was asked to provide payment when I walked in for my crown procedure. I used my FSA card from my work and paid off $$ that they collect me before I even sat down with Dr. Almusa to get my temporary crown done. So on to the chair, then the drilling. Dr. Almusa has to stop because I needed a root canal - oh my! So they called endodentists in the area who can take me in. Lesley had to refund back the money to my FSA card because obviously the crown procedure was not completed and of course, I need some of that $$ for my root canal. Once root canal was completed, I came back for my temporary crown fitting. This time, no payment was asked when I walked in and I was led straight to the room. Temporary crown in, then off to Lesley for payment. I asked for detailed receipt, she provided and I paid half. Came back for the permanent crown, then paid off paid everything that they detailed me on their receipt. It was hefty and I'm glad I signed up at work for the health care flexible spending account (FSA). I'm taking one star from my four star services review for asking payment before the actual procedure - that left a bad taste on my mouth. I don't know if this is their standard practice in their office as I haven't seen any one who reviewed them about payment issues. Received my explanation of benefits from insurance - low and behold, my payment responsibility on the EOB was WAY less than what I paid. Dr. Judd's office overestimated my procedure at least by 55%. That's a lot! I know dental procedures are expensive and I was prepared to pay. But from my EOB the actual out of pocket was not that bad. But when you get a detailed list that sums up to fifteen hundred dollars, it does not sit well on my stomach. I understand the insurance pays some of it, but why would I get charged way more than what my insurance is paying when they are a participating provider. I guess I'm not used to paying overestimated costs on dental visits, as I always paid what I owed or a little over. I received the refund on my overpayment after I called & asked for it. It sat on their system because they thought they will apply it to future dental services. It's money that I can use now or sit on my bank account, instead of waiting until next year for more dental services. read more

It is rare that I give a place 1 star. Though the practice is modern and the staff polite the results are charitably described as rough. Dr. Chu replaced the fillings in two front teeth and the resulting work obviously had a color mismatch. Dr, Chu said it was normal, it was the best anyone could do, and refused to try again. We paid for this substandard work. We then went to another dentist (Dr. X) whose first question during the exam was "who did these front teeth and how long did it take?" We asked why and he said they "were roughly done" and looked as if someone spent 10 minutes a tooth rather than the 30 minutes it normally takes. Dr. X is right, Dr. Chu spent 10 minutes per tooth. Dr. X replaced the fillings, they are smooth, and they match perfectly. These large dental operations remind me of a car sales showroom with smiling salesman waiting to take your money. My recommendation is to avoid this place and go to an honest family dentist. read more

For years, I HATED going to the dentist. Mainly because i would be in pain for WEEKS after a filling. A freakin filling! And the cleaning process was usually done lazily or just painfully. Every year since I was in high school, I changed my dentist. So This year, i searched around and found Dr. Judd. I swear...she's a miracle worker. I thought walking out of the dentist pain-free was a myth until now. She does Great work and her staff is just so incredibly sweet and extremely good at what they do. I now live right by the PA/NJ State line...and whenever I go to Maryland to visit Family, I make sure to set up a dentist appt with her. I made an an appointment with Dr. Judd after reading such positive reviews on here. Now, they were so good that I was initially a little skeptical! (appt was 1/13/12) When I called Xiomara (i think that was her name...) was very friendly and set both my husband and I up for appointments.She checked my insurance to be sure it was accepted and someone sent a reminder text to me about the appointment which I hadn't forgotten about but I did appreciate it. I got to the office about 15 minutes early. Just in case I had to fill out paperwork but it was all done on computer and it was pretty quick. Just as I was finishing up they were calling me back (by the way my appt was at 3:00 and they called me back at 2:50 - awesome!) When I got to the back my little room was very clean and had a flat screen up above so I could watch tv while they worked. The hygentist (sp?) was very sweet and explained everything she was doing. And it was the best experience i've had at the dentist since I was a kid. When Dr. Judd came in she was really nice and I did have some questions and she answered them all. Even though I knew there were other patients there, at no point did I feel rushed. Check out was easy and they sent me home with the prices of getting my fillings (sadly I had a few cavities - haven't seen a dentist is almost 8 years, a few isn't so bad) And I'll be going back in a couple of months to get those done. Let me start by saying that I hate going to the dentist. A few months ago I went to Columbia Gateway Dentistry after the positive reviews on Yelp. Now I know I hadn't been to the dentist in almost 2 years, so it wasn't going to be easy, but it was horrible. I couldn't bring myself to go back to them to have any cavities filled. So I called Judd Dentistry and they scheduled an exam and fillings. I brought my X-rays from CGD, which the dentist was confused by. They had only taken 4 X-rays total! The dentist did a while mouth series and a panoramic X-ray. I talked to her about my negative dental experiences and she assured me that she would go slow and give me breaks if I needed them. Sure enough, Dr. Alumsa was fantastic! She is incredibly patient And helpful! I've been back 3 times for fillings (that's what I get for not going to the dentist!) and I will be back again. They also have TVs that you can watch during treatment. That, along with my endorsement, convinced my husband to get his teeth looked at again too! read more

This has been the best dentistry I have experienced. The front office staff is efficient and excellent with scheduling appointments that fit my need. I explained my anxiety with dental visits and was not judged. My treatment plan is always reviewed and I determmine what work will be done during the visits. The Dr. always is reassuring and comforting. I get follow up calls to see how I am too! I am never surprised with costs because I am given estamations with my treatment plan. I have never waited more than five minutes after I check in! This business is clean, comfortable and very professional. My son recently had a visit and fell asleep during treatment he was so relaxed. Laura, in the front office is the most obnoxious person you will ever have the misfortune of speaking to. She is like Professor Umbridge in Harry Potter. She is someone who cuts you up to pieces all while saying, with a fake smile plastered on, 'I'm helping you and doing this for your benefit'. All billing goes through Laura and she is ruthless and vicious. It is worth staying away from this office just to avoid her lies and back and forths . As far as Dr Judd goes, I needed a composite for a chipped front tooth from childhood. The first composite she did lasted 2 weeks before breaking completely off. She redid it because of shoddy workmanship. The next composite took only a few weeks before a piece of it chipped in a corner and again, Dr Judd had to fix it due to her error (which she admitted). We'll see how long this one lasts, but I have my doubts based on experience with her. The two previous composites on the same tooth I had before each lasted over 10 years when a different dentist did it. Three times is a charm for her to figure it out though? There is definitely a problem of skill when Dr. Judd's work only lasts weeks and it happens twice. Dr Judd is friendly, but would you rather have a nice dentist or a competent one? read more

I have dental insurance with a major provider and at the end of the appointment they wanted me to pay $200 more than my insurance's pay schedule clearly stated for the work. I raised concerns and the assistant acknowledged that I might be overpaying, but that they should refund me later. I am so happy I finally found an amazing dentist! I have had some issues in the past and therefor waited way longer then I should to see a dentist with a issue. I was seen at my appointment time, no long waits, the staff is AMAZING and Dr Judd is awesome. It was pain free, easy going and they made me feel at home. I had to be sent to a specialist for a root canal, but my crown was done in office and in 1 visit!!! Dr Judd also fixed my broken front tooth, that has been broken and fixed a few times since I was a child. It looks amazing. I had to think really hard to remember which tooth was broke, they looked the same! I can't say enough great things about this office and staff.
