As a French tourist visiting El Paso, I really wanted to cross the border and experience Mexican border culture. However, I was a bit uneasy going to Juarez alone for the first time: I really look like the gringo who's killed first in the old western movies, my Spanish isn't quite good, as is my knowledge of the city. Then, some people recommended me the tour organized by the well-famous Rich Wright, and I decided to have a go for it. My god, that was fun! We toured downtown, visited some nice little shops, had great chats with locals and really digged into Mexican border culture. I'd done it again in a heartbeat, thanks Rich! I love the sense of freedom you have when visiting Juarez (especially if your girlfriend if staying home hehe)

This was an awesome experience. My dad and I drove to El Paso just to take this walking tour into Mexico. We started at 11 and got back into the US a little after 4! We saw historical sites, Rich told us the history, and we ate some good food. I had a lot of fun, and would definitely recommend this place. You should go.

I took a Sunday late morning/early afternoon walking tour of Juarez with Richard Wright, and it was great! Juarez has a very negative reputation because of the huge spike in cartel related violence from around 2008 - 2012. Don't let that scare you away! Visiting the downtown (especially during the day, and especially with someone who knows what they're doing) is completely safe. Rick M.'s review gives a nice overview of the basics of the tour. Our tour included: lots of cool information about the city, a lovely stroll around a plaza near the cathedral and mission, a walk through a market, some cool murals, a stop for street food, a great and informative (and air conditioned!) visit to a museum about the Mexican Revolution, and a trip to a hidden "speakeasy" type bar, where we tried sotol, a spirit made from an agave type plant. Prices south of the border are a lot lower than they are north of it: I exchanged $10 USD to pesos after we crossed the border (which Rich can help with), and had about $3 of pesos leftover after buying a huge agua fresca, some mango with chamoy, a beer and a shot of sotol, a plate of tacos, and a big hunk of cheese to eat. All tours are private, and scheduled personally with Rich over phone or email. As of April 2019, he charges $25/person (or $50 as a flat rate for a tour with a single person.) But you should tip him, cause the tour is worth much more than that! We spent around 4 hours on the tour, and could have spent longer had I not needed to head back to catch a flight out of El Paso. A word for those (like me) who are really into advance planning: last minute scheduling is okay for this tour. I first inquired about booking a couple of months in advance, when I learned I'd be in El Paso for a work trip. Rich said he couldn't schedule something so far in advance (which I found a bit frustrating at the time, since I was deciding whether to schedule my return flight for the morning or evening of the day after my work business was done), but that he expected he'd be available, and I should contact him again a couple of weeks before the date I wanted. I did so, and we set up the tour by email. Rich was also flexible with the number of people - I said it would be anywhere from just me to a small group, and he was fine with me showing up with a group of 3. Finally: be sure to bring your passport: you don't need it crossing into Mexico, but you need it to return. Wear comfortable shoes, and I recommend a wide-brimmed hat, as it was very hot when I visited in late April. Bring water, or plan to buy some (it's safe to drink in Juarez). What are you waiting for? Check it out!

Oh my gosh. This was the best tour ever. I rode an uber to my hotel from the airport having booked a hotel downtown. I ask the driver , a native young lady born and raised in El Paso about Ciudad Juarez. She never been there. She advised me not to go. Too dangerous. I wanted to see the city and hired Rich from Juarez Walking Tours. He was right on time at our agreed meeting point. He literally knew everything about the city and gave a great tour. I felt safe the whole time. He was an excellent guide. Many people will have opinions about something they know nothing about. Just having him there as a navigator was very reassuring. I was a group of one person. We had a great time. A great man showing a great city. He is doing a great service helping people discover Juarez. I think it is like any other city - there are bad parts and you need a few basic street smarts. I highly recommend this tour for your first time. Give him a call!

The tour started at Mac's Downtown and ended at the Wigwam Museum aka the Paso Del Norte Paranormal Society headquarters. El Paso had the largest Chinatown in the state at one time. It eventually disappeared due to strict immigration laws back in the 1800s. A lot of of El Paso's Chinese population lived downtown in boarding houses. Some of the buildings are still standing today. The Chinese were no longer able to immigrate to El Paso due to these tough immigration laws. It's said that there were tunnels in various buildings downtown to smuggle them into El Paso. Those who didn't come into El Paso stayed/lived in Juarez. The ghost tour lady told us which buildings supposedly have underground tunnels in them. The Wigwam is one of them, along with the Plaza Theater, the former Tricky Falls and others. The Chinese came to El Paso from China and California to help build the railroad. They also became business owners. They owned laundries and grocery stores around town. The Wigwam was once called Fashion Saloon. It was built in 1883. It was the first saloon to have electricity. It also offered gambling and was one of five brothels in the El Paso area. It saw its share of gunfighters and heroes of the old west like Pat Garrett and John Wesley Hardin. Hardin's grave is at Concordia Cemetery in central El Paso close to L & J's. The Chinese population is buried at Evergreen Cemetery on Alameda. Once the saloon/brothel were no more, it was redesigned as the Wigwam Theatre in 1909. The theater closed its doors in 1981. The building was damaged by a fire in 2011. It was then refurbished and became the Wigwam Museum/Paranormal Headquarters. After walking around downtown, we went to the Wigwam. We went down into their basement. The technology the ghost tour lady and others had said there was a ghost down there. She and some of the ghost tour participants asked this ghost yes and no questions. If the answer was yes, the light turned green. I believe this ghost's name was Lily. There is a tunnel/tunnels in this building. We were tired and wanted to go home so we cut the tour a little bit short. It was fun and educational to learn more about El Paso's history. I would recommend going on this tour or another one this non-profit offers. The average cost for a 2-hour plus tour is $20/person. For more info., go to https://www.ghosts915.org/

They do mention to come prepared as far as hydration but just note that you will have to know where to look for the nearest bathroom should you need it. The Gardener tour ends at the Gardner so, if you don't know where the nearest shop or bar that has bathrooms is... it's gonna have to wait until then. Be prepared to go over time if the tour ends on an investigation (if it's offered). Sometimes, the energy is just alive! Also, don't be afraid to ask questions or for clarification on historical accounts. They are very knowledgeable and honest in their history and in their paranormal experiences. They can only do so much as far as safety. They do wait for the appropriate times to cross streets but they remind you to be diligent in your own safety. There is traffic and not everyone yields to pedestrians. Be aware of street signs and cars. They also give heads up on sketchy pedestrians and such. But, again, you need to do your part and make sure you are alert when you spot anything odd. Call it out if you see something that others didn't. We all want to enjoy the tour as peacefully as possible. My personal experience went well! I hope with this info, others can enjoy themselves without any surprises. I had overheard others in my tour about not knowing they'd have to walk a lot or how thirsty they were and where bathrooms are but, I was annoyed if they even read the posts they gave. They do give a heads up. If anything, they (EPGT) should keep reiterating just to make sure it gets across and sticks better for people. I am really looking forward to joining another tour with these guys. They were great! -VD

We did, and we all had the best time! Turkey was an eye-opening, positive experience. We were on the Sultan, which was (is?) a wonderful gulet (yacht) with an expert crew (the cook was fantastic!). The location on azure seas, great food & drink, fun and enlightening shore excursions, and Dan (Tropical Sails) ensured we all enjoyed our entire trip. The itinerary was well thought out, and somewhat flexible... We didn't go on one shore excursion but stayed on the yacht and swam in the indescribably turquoise blue Mediterranean... During the walking tour of Ephesus I walked off to explore several alleyways on my own... Fantastic! For the eclipse we sailed to the center line and had perfectly clear view! One of the highlights of the trip was on the return to Istanbul on a stormy night (a-rockin' & a-rollin') when the Sultan slowed down and stopped (we're all wondering wtf) when a couple guys in a swan-shaped paddle boat heave alongside to toss several bags of bread on board... fresh bread is mandatory for dinner ;) That was a particularly fine dining experience!
