While traveling through Arkansas and stopping for a bite to eat, my attention was caught by the word "candy" on a sign. Being a lover of sweets I just had to fully read it: Juanita's Candy Kitchen. It sounded like a local, small, homemade type place so I decided to check it out.
It's a cute little candy shop in the form of a warehouse. The specialties are brittle in peanut, pecan and cashew. These nuts are also available in chocolate covered. Other delights include chocolate fudge with or without nuts, rocky road fudge, s'mores fudge and peanut butter fudge. The brittle is sold in 1 1/2 lb buckets or in half pound bags. Each container of fudge comes with a small spoon inside.
I purchased a bag of chocolate covered pecans, rocky road fudge and a bucket of cashew brittle. I was impressed by how fresh the nuts were. You can tell this place uses quality ingredients in their candies. Chocolate covered pecans were a salty/sweet confection with melt in my mouth goodness and the salty crunch of pecans. The fudge was a chocolatey, creamy-dreamy perfection with soft marshmallows and pecans. Cashew brittle was buttery, caramel-y and had a delicate crisp texture that won't send you running to the dentist with a broken tooth.
The store area itself is small and there isn't a huge variety apart from what I mentioned but there is enough offerings that you will find something you can truly enjoy. The employee was friendly, conversational and helpful. This is your small town, down home kind of store that, sadly, you don't see a lot of anymore.
It's off the beaten path so to speak, on a road behind the Walmart. Next time I am passing through this little town I'll be sure to make another stop at this great little confectionary for some more delectable homemade type candy goodies. read more
