2 people, 4 tapas and 2 glasses of wine for £22 was a great deal. We got baked brie, mushroom…read morerisotto, chicken satay and baked fish patties. The risotto was incredible, so much flavor and a perfect consistency. Also the gin and tonic selection is amazing! 3 pages of "ginventions" with different gins, flavored tonics and garnishes. This is the perfect place for a girls night or date night, fun and delicious!

I headed to Ora after booking up for me and a friend over the bank holiday weekend. Glad I booked…read moreas it was jam packed I headed to the bar to grab a drink whilst we waited for our table to be re-set. Only waiting ten minutes the waitress brought our cocktails up; mine a cosmopolitan and a elder-fizz or something to that effect! Served with a slice of orange (as to be expected) and a very fancy star shaped melon! After being seated up stairs on the meziene level we got started on our catch up - the last time we saw each other was back in March when we went to Berlin together! The waiter gave us enough time to decide having only come over twice we had just about narrowed down our tapas choices! (There is a main menu too should you want something a little more! We opted for 4 tapas plates; the tempura prawns, humous and pitta, meatballs and chorizo and hallomi. On our waiters recommendation we went for a fifth plate of patatas- bravas aioli. They all took a good 20-25 minutes to arrive which was idea for us as we followed our cocktails with a bottle of prosecco. On arrival we tucked in - my favourites being the hummus and the meatballs which came in a creamy tomato sauce topped with parmesan shavings. The garlic potatoes were also great however thankful I wasn't doing much the next day as my dad told me the garlic smell followed me around the next day... The only downside to our meal was being told the next covers had arrived so we needed to make a move. This was even before our plates had been cleared away and although I was told whilst booking over the phone I would have thought that we were allowed slightly longer given the fact we were in fact also seated slightly late. Nevertheless the meal was tasty and the wine was good no doubt I will be back next time I am visiting Newcastle!

The Botanist was an excellent find when we stayed the night in downtown Newcastle. Located on Monument Mall, you have to up three flights of stairs or take the lift (elevator) to reach the main bar and lounge that has a strong botanical garden theme that is quite beautiful, especially with the location being under a dome. The dome is gorgeous and really enhances the botanical garden and atrium effect. The cocktails are very good as well. I ordered a buttered coconut old fashioned that was quite rich and creamy, but very satisfying with the toasted coconut and butter-washed Makers Mark bourbon with homemade salted honey syrup. My wife enjoyed her Botanist Ultimate Gin & Tonic as we took a table with these plushy lounge chairs. The bartender was fantastic and friendly in making us the cocktails. Really nice guy who made us feel at home. Additionally, they have a rooftop balcony to enjoy the drinks; however, on this evening, it was windy and cold (at least for us Floridians) to where we decided to stay warmer inside. But we would return in a heartbeat.

My previous review remains completely the same…read more My this visit this week provided an opportunity to get some more dim sum and lots of it. What I did see was a restaurant full of Chinese diners eating the very same food. Now if that is not a recommendation for a great restaurant ........

I can't believe this place has only one review!…read more Since switching assignments and being in Newcastle this has quickly become a regular, you just can't beat Dim Sum. The plus sides... Dim Sum, glorious and well made Dim Sum. I truly believe it's made on site as the same orders vary quite a lot between visits... they are always consistent enough, but definitely change... that can be good and bad depending on your view, but I can't say I've ever been totally let down. This place is best suited for a group of adventorous friends who aren't scared to order a bunch of small dishes and share... my personal favourites include the Prawn and Chive Dumplings along with the Pork and Prawn Dumplings, along the lines of Sui Mai. Even when I haven't loved something here I usually chalk it up to personal taste, as with the Cheung Fun (a little too bland for me), I saw a Chinese lady beside me order two of them and scoff them up with delight... to each their own! Still, the Smashed Prawn Dumplings, Deep Fried Squid with Garlic, Salt, and Pepper, and so many other things hit the spot that I can't fault misses that are down to me ordering off of the beaten path. :) Oh, the Steamed Barbecue Pork Buns... just the right size and balance of flavour! (These are simple but often go wrong, not so here.) A tip, don't be scared to ask for a sauce... a few dishes come with their specific type, but a lot of the Dim Sum dishes could use a sauce of some sort but they don't tend to offer unless you ask... their happy enough to bring some over though when asked. I haven't ventured to the mains, other than the starter Deep Fried Squid with Garlic, Salt, and Pepper (with extra chilli, naturally), because I find it too fun to have variety and the mains look rather large... what I have seen looks good however, and there's normally large groups of people going for mains at various tables so I assume they're good. The only other down side is twice the pints have just seemed off so it may be best to stick to bottles (the pints aren't Asian as it is), BUT, that could also just be a fluke and/or down to me so I'm not ready to really knock them for that and I certainly haven't stopped going! The place itself is accessible from an elevator on the main street of Chinatown... how mysterious and a bit fun! (OK, fun is relative, but it's still kinda cool.) It's perfectly fitting, larger than expected, and generally pleasant so no real complaints there/ The staff are friendly enough and have even begun to remember some of my orders so they're definitely paying attention! I have to go five stars here because I feel like I would be a hypocrite to do otherwise... I've gone here so much, it speaks for itself and I'll be very sad to say goodbye to this place when I migrate next for work. If you don't like Chinese food or Dim Sum then obviously this won't be for you, but if you like Dim Sum then hopefully this place will rock your world and become a regular of your own.
