I had several projects that needed to be done, including two that made me particularly nervous. One involved mounting a TV and sound bar on a granite wall above my fireplace, and the other involved mounting a large, heavy, ornate mirror on a marble wall. Because of the materials and the value of what was being mounted, I didn't feel comfortable hiring just any handyman. I wanted someone who really knew what they were doing.
Kenny is meticulous. He spent many hours here, and after each project I kept saying, "Oh my gosh, it's perfect."
The TV and sound bar deserve special mention. You can see NO cords. We even came up with a plan to add a matching detail to the cord covers on the other side so they would look intentional and become part of the fireplace design rather than something you simply have to hide. The finished result is sleek, stylish, and chic. Kenny also connected all of the electronics, so there was absolutely nothing left for me to figure out afterward. That was a huge bonus. He even cleaned the TV! I already had that on my to-do list and I didn't need to do it!
The TV installation itself was quite involved. The drilling took a considerable amount of time, and Kenny explained the different layers of material he had to work through to mount the TV correctly. This is exactly why you want someone who understands what is behind the wall rather than someone who simply knows how to hang a TV.
And then there was the little problem of the TV angle. As we were determining the placement, we realized that the TV would be better if it could tilt downward slightly. My existing mount was fixed, so I said, "Ugh...I need a mount that tilts."
Kenny said, "I have one!"
I said, "You do?! What, do you just drive around with various TV mounts in your car?"
He said, "Yeah, I do!"
That pretty much sums up Kenny. He is prepared. I felt so relieved!
Several of the other projects looked complicated and frankly were stressing me out. Not Kenny. He would look at the project, figure it out, and make everything seem easy. He was knowledgeable, careful, resourceful, and prepared for the unexpected.
I also want to mention something that isn't usually included in a contractor review but mattered a lot to me. Kenny has a very clear, positive energy. When someone is going to be spending hours inside your home, that matters. I'm very sensitive to the energy of people in my personal space, and I had even prepared my assistant for that. I was ready to smudge the house with sage afterward if necessary.
It wasn't necessary.
By the time Kenny left, the house felt great. We were all laughing, talking about future projects, and already thinking about what we might have him do next.
That combination is hard to find: professional, meticulous, knowledgeable, resourceful, prepared, and simply pleasant to have in your home. Every detail was attended to, and the finished work is beautiful.
I highly recommend Kenny. If you have a complicated mounting project--or simply want someone who will treat the details as seriously as you do--hire Kenny. You will be very glad you did.
