Our first visit was a somewhat spontaneous trip. We have wanted to visit this place in person but never had the opportunity to visit. Every time we have passed by, they were closed. They close early-6pm. We finally started adding this stop on our road trips a couple of years ago and maneuvering our road trips around this stop ever since. We always bring our dog with us on road trips so I read somewhere dogs were welcome inside. I went inside first to check and yes, dogs are welcome inside! This place can feel overwhelming when first walking in because its huge! Funny though, there is a huge wine selection and refrigerators with beer and wine but you cannot drink in there. They also sell cigarettes and I am assuming you can smoke those inside because you can smoke cigars inside. While you enjoy your cigar, you can lounge on a sofa or chair. There is also a huge tv, which usually has sports on. But wait, there's more! They have a giant walk in humidor at the back. It is the size of a store itself. Talk about variety! My dad has smoked cigars my entire life so I know a thing or two but do not consider myself an expert. The staff in there are always helpful and invited us to bring our dog in there last time we visited. We always spend a couple of hundred dollars in there and the quality has been consistent. I just wish they were open a little later. read more

This store is right off 95 and it is easy to find and park at. It has a large humidor with a big selection of brands. They also sell accessories and some beer in the front section. There are some chairs and a tv or two in the area. I did not think the prices were outlet level based on the prices that I pay in other Cigar stores here in Richmond. But maybe compared to other people's home locations they are. Either way- it is a place to hang out and have a cigar. read more

I have always liked stopping in at JR's. Not so much anymore. Prices are not that good and the selections have dwindled. The staff are not that knowledgeable or helpful. Seems to be more friendly to the locals. (I'm not in the "click". I've had a problem with an on line order (thinking they could help me). NO.... When I asked, they informed me they had nothing to do with the on-line JR. Could not have cared less.... The lounge area looks great and is very comfortable. Their credit card machine was down , I spent all my cash . My friends got coupon from yelp but yelp didn't gave me any coupon as I checked in but yelp didn't give me %10 discount coupon. And any way they don't accept for cigarettes. The girl in the counter looks like new and doesn't know what she was doing. I had to ask $1 discount from carton to get that discount . I spent $ 420.00 didn't even give me free lighter.... And their vape prices are way more expensive than New Jersey I drove extra 35 miles to get cheap cigarettes but it is not worth it... read more

I was looking for pipe tobacco and was assisted by a young man who was very helpful and was passionate about pipes. If you need something cheap, anything you don't really need, you will find it here. Like a huge, upgraded garage sale from mostly China. Hubby stops here to check out cigars while I buy popcorn and walk around. Security is tighter than the airport for all this junk, (except the cigars). Def a different class of people here. Not as much fun as it used to be, when they had the retail portion of the store, but the most important part is still there: The cigar humidor. I can usually catch my favorite cigars in-store, and the staff seems generally knowledgeable about the stock. Good prices on humidors and other gear for cigar storage. Well after my husband being a loyal customer for over 25 years I am very disappointed to say the least I ordered over $300 in cigars on the 29th of July and we still haven't received them after numerous calls and on hold for over a hour at a time emails sent .I only got 2 computer generated responses that they would get back to me in 2 to 3 business days worse part is my husband is dying and its the only thing he ask for . we have no idea how long he has but every day is worse then the one before and I had to go and spend extra money I did not really have just to get him a few . this is horrible the one thing he wants I have to go and spend double for locally .I recently had to order from another company . First off, JR Cigars is huge, really huge and it is about a lot more than cigars. It's about all sorts of stuff, which you have to see to believe but if you like buying things you don't need or items that have never crossed your mind, JR's is the place. Just a huge warehouse type of place with just about everything you would think of seeing or buying until you get into the place. As for the Cigars, they claim to be the largest cigar store, bar none. Maybe so, but the cigar section, located in the center of the place seems like more of an after thought than a primary motivation. read more

Extremely disappointed. I stopped at JRs on my down south many times. It was a highlight for us to stretch our legs and browse through the store, it had so many things from clothes, to toys, to snacks, just a gteat stopping point. We just arrived to find out the store is no longer :( just JR Cigars. Not sure if was the economy that drove them to close but we are definitely sad to see them gone. Ahh... JR's!! This is one of my constant stops on my frequent I-95 jaunts. I enjoy good Cigars, despite that being a socially unaceptable habit these days. Although JR's claim to fame is the cigars, there is a lot more. This place is a monster.. Tons o' stuff, sometimes there are amazing deals! There are many departments, in no particular order: Ladies cosmetics, Men's & Ladies fragrances, clothing for all, including a huge Wrangler department, housewares, toys, cheap tools, cigarettes, wine & beer, books, nascar, Zippo lighters, cheap watches & jewelry, some Harley Davidson stuff, snack bar, all kinds of chatchkas that you never knew existed,,, This place is fun to wander through after you've been on the road for a few hours!! As far as cigars are concerned.. a vast selection of known and unknown brands, as well as humidors, lighters, hygrometers.. you get the idea!. Some big brands are missing, but it's pretty much impossible for a cigar lover to leave empty handed. They have some super in-house specials, especially the "Cigar of the week" usually a big name, great quality cigar for 2-6 dollars a stick, depending on what it is...but it is always a bargain!. Selma N.C. is a fun stop and there's a lot more good stuff in the area, such as food, BBQ, factory outlet..etc, should you choose to hang out for a few hours..with your credit cards and cash...you will need them! read more

What a great place. I went for the cigars and ended up browsing the rest of the store because I was amazed at the variety of stuff that they carry. The employees in the cigar store were very helpful and polite. There is just too much product. I recommend that you peruse their catalog before you get there. They didn't have the Rocky Patel 15th Anniversary that I was looking for. Bummer. Still got plenty of stock for the humidor. Nice selection of samplers. I grabbed four samplers and some of my regulars. I splurged on a nice Xikar torch lighter, too. I stopped in during my return trip from Florida and left an hour later with a nice load of stogies that would have cost much more up in the Northeast due to tobacco taxes. It was a nice haul that provided plenty of entertainment for the rest of the ride home. TIP: If you can't make it to the store, don't fret. You can order online and not pay the state sales tax. JR Cigars is the BOMB. I have been buying my cigars from JR for about 25 years. They have the best prices anywhere. For example, an Arturo Fuente Curly Head Natural will cost you $14.25/cigar at one of our local cigar dealers. JR will sell you a box of 25 for $60, or $2.40/cigar. JR also sells single cigars. This is one of those I-95 tourist traps with signs about 100 miles out in both directions. It is a gigantic warehouse full of...stuff. Cheap Stuff. Anything and everything you can think of at discount prices. Not sure why it's called JR cigars....but they do have a nice Cigar shop in the back after you get through all of the other knick knacks there. It's not just random stuff, they seem to also have some name brands there as well. I picked up quite a few cute work appropriate tops here. I won't lie..its pretty Red Necky in there...however....its part of the fun! You city folks need to lighten up....I found the employees there to be very nice and helpful. read more

They have a humidor the size of my house. If they don't carry a particular cigar, you probably didn't want to smoke it anyway. Everything from bundled 2nds to a separate humidor full of $20 sticks. I know some people are upset that they closed down the entire emporium and only have the tobacco shop open, but as a cigar shop this place is the bomb! read more

How can you drive past this place and not stop? And then... when and/or if you do stop - how do you not buy anything?! JR's is packed full of knick knacks galore. Forgot your toothpaste, grab some here. Want some ice cream, stop in for a scoop. Need to pick up a bathing suit for a reasonable price, a baking pan or some sheets - JR's has it all! Since I was a youngster, I always made it a mission to have my parents stop off at Exit 97, so that I could jump right into the heaping mounds of JR gloriousness! This past trip, I managed to snatch up a dog beg, 2 necklaces (2 bracelets were included for free), a dog bone, dog toys, a donut pan and some snacks for only $45. How can you beat those prices?! This store was... Interesting. It's a completely random collection of stuff. Mostly cheap stuff, although we found some fun things. I can see the appeal mostly for tobacco products. They sold us a lighter that didn't work. Unless you're going for cigarettes, try the Tanger outlets for better quality. read more

We were sucked into visiting JR's super-warehouse-mega-mart in Selma, NC by reading all of the highway signs promising "the largest cigar shop in the world" and "the largest truck stop in the world" and "the largest EVERYTHING in the world". We figured, this was worth seeing. And, to some extent, it was. JR's is a huge truck stop that sells, among other things, cigars, dolls, housewares, apparel, everything you can find at Target, and "Nascar Stuff" and below-Walmart prices (can you believe it?) The pure white-trashiness is worth seeing. Everything is beyond cheap, except the afore-advertised "Nascar stuff", which had a huge mark-up and indicates just how things roll in North Carolina, home of Nascar. In any case, I'm not sure I'd ever want to go again, but if you live in parts of the US that don't actually remotely resemble the US (such as NY or CA), this is worth seeing. read more

This place is nuts. They spend more money on advertising than they do on their inventory. Definitely worth a look if you're driving through and want cheap cigarettes. Their cigar shop is also something to behold. There are people actively smoking in there. To a girl from Massachusetts, it just seems like all sorts of wrong. JR is like a huge, less cheerful Christmas Tree Shop. They have everything from fake designer perfumes to assless chaps to fake vintage Coca-Cola memorabilia. The bathrooms stink of floral cleanser, but I hope that means they're as clean as they look. read more

This is a slightly discounted .05% upgrade from Walmart. They have everything from Christmas decorations, swimming gear, kitchen utensils, bedding, hunting and fishing supplies, toiletries, clothing, limited wine collection, you name it. No really food or grocery section but a few snacks and some cheap wines in the front of the store. A few highlights - they carry name brand items clothing they had some women's items from New York Company, Elle Style & Co and some others, discounted name brand mascara Maybelline, Loreal and Cover girl, there is a health/beauty supply section with shampoo face wash and soaps. If you need a Walmart and don't want to go off the beaten trail or far from 95 this will work. Stop by! read more

Just went in to the remodel store. I was very disappointed. Great chairs and lounge area with three tv's. But little thought was put into the remodel. Cigar stock cut down. The pipe tobacco is now a joke. Prices are higher and the bulk selection is all gone. In essence they now sell cigarettes with a cigar option. I will not be back again. read more

I stop here whenever I drive down to Florida for couple cartons of Marlboro. They are less expensive than where I live so I save some money. I have a feeling there are placed selling them for less there. The gas station had a sign showing a little lower of a price and I wondered if it would have been had I just bought them there. This is truly an odd ball odds and ends type place. It is right off the interstate, so if you need to stretch your legs, its a great place to stop and walk around for a bit. The items they have are all close outs from the manufacturers. They do have some name brands, but its all limited. I can always find some odd ball stuff there. With all the billboards, they make you think the place is the bomb and when you get there its a little disappointing. read more

I like the new setup and would love to spend more time here. The walk in humidor is monsterous and there are several good deals to be had on cigars. TVs. chairs and cooler stocked with soda is a nice touch. My only complaint and the reason this is not a 5 star review is that they close too early (8pm)! Maybe they can carve out a small place from the overall huge old building(they used to have an indoor flea market type store setup), get a booze license and stay open a bit later.
