Pretty nice breakfast/brunch spot offering a wide array of American classics. I ordered The All…read moreAmerican (16.75 GBP), which was a typical combo of pancakes, bacon, homestyle potatoes, a sausage, and two fried eggs. It was rather plain/ordinary but certainly not bad. I have to say, the pancakes were a bit on the dry side though. Also, the eggs were sunny side up but didn't actually seem fried at all, as they were super soft without any crispiness. In addition, they didn't even add the slightest amount of seasoning on there - at least a few pepper flakes would have been nice (although there was pepper on the table, but still). The homestyle fries were well-cooked with a good crispiness though. The restaurant has a lower level with some seating as well as a larger upper level. It has a sort of old-timey kind of vibe, with wood panels along the walls and ceiling and a little performance stage in the back. It is conveniently located right next to the Canary Wharf tube station. My waitress was average friendliness and was only moderately attentive, as she never checked up on me during my meal. She also waited until I actually got my food to bring me my water. Overall, The Breakfast Club is a solid option for breakfast/brunch in Canary Wharf with pretty much any of the classics that you could want.

I just kept finding the wrong one, but TBC made it worth the wait. For those seeking "a little more conversation", stop at the bar for the friendly experience you'd expect. Today I headed upstairs to the VIP Section. Unlike my wife who never saw a pancake she wanted to go home with, I like a menu with plenty of pancake choices. And bonus points if not too many are "exotic" such as cake disguised as compote-smothered confectioners-sugar-laced trendy-named items. Just get me some sort of flapjack with or without fruit. Bonus points if you have short and tall (long?) stacks. And double-bonus if you print "flapjack" on the menu. Enough about the pancakes (my wife is saying). She doesn't even like breakfast so don't listen to her (she'd skip if I weren't always dragging her out somewhere for it). Her loss. But just one more pancake point: I got the blueberry short stack. It wasn't epic but it was a solid +6-7. That works, given my earlier frou-frou comments. I couldn't tell and maybe the maple syrup was imported from Canada (eh), but we are spoilt with our Vermont supply. So no points gained/lost there. I didn't get any baked beans (yes because this was breakfast), but my bacon was tasty as were my two Americanos (aka coffees). If I had for some reason wanted pre-noon beans...I'm sure they would have been lovely, along with all the other varied menu choices I didn't have room to sample. Service was fast and efficient, and they endured my lingering into late-morning. By the time I left it had stopped raining. Will wonders never cease.

And my first visit to Piggy's Cafe made the trip even more enjoyable and rewarding. After perusing through the wonders of the fish market, stopping off in Piggy's Cafe seemed like the right thing to do.We'd compared, we'd (tried to) haggle, and now we just fancied a sit down before heading home and going back to bed again - we'd left the house at 4:30am. We both knew what we wanted, and seeing as we were surrounded by thousands of fresh fish goods, we were certainly going to order fish in here. I ordered the Smoked Salmon and Creamcheese bagel (£3.00) and Joe ordered the Scallop and Bacon Bagel (£3.50). We could have ordered a lovely cuppa, but didn't want any caffeine effecting our sleep we knew we would be having in a few hours. You order at the kitchen, and then wait for your food at the table you've chosen to sit at. The buzz and the atmosphere in this place is mesmerising; I found myself looking at every detail of this cafe and loving it all! The customers, the staff, the food, the drink, the noises - it was great! It was amusing to see 2 Weetabix in milk being served to an elderly fish seller, especially after being in the microwave. Just how my mum used to make it for me! There was also a gentleman eating sliced banana on toast! I've never seen that outside of a home, and would never expect it to be served in a cafe. Piggy's, you continue to impress me! Our food came quick enough, and boy was it tasty! My smoked salmon did taste fresh, and it was fishy too, in a good way obviously! I knew the bagel wouldn't be as delicious as those from Brick Lane, but it was surprisingly firm and doughy either way. Joe's Scallop and Bacon Bagel was greasy but good! Salty but good too! Check out my pictures. Other things on the menu, that we glanced at, were the Haddock Breakfast, your classic Smoked Salmon & Scrambled Eggs, and then the Scallop Melt. I think I saw someone with this Scallop Melt, and it involved cheese and scallops, and maybe some scrambled eggs and bacon mixed in there too, yum! Overall, Piggy's Cafe is a number one joint to visit. I'm sure their fry ups are delicious, and I would love to go back to try something else on their menu. I'd dip, sip and tip at this fishy (in a good way!) joint! Menu not available online, but their telephone number is: 0207 987 1068

They even blast country music over the speakers in this decked out wooden interior. I ordered a brisket sandwich that also had sausage. I wasn't going to expect much from a BBQ restaurant in London, but they impressed me. The brisket was juicy and full of a rich smoky flavor. How did they do this way out here?? The sausage was also juicy and had a delightful flavor. If I didn't know any better, this tasted just as good as a BBQ brisket sandwich back in the US. The sandwich came with a pickle spear and some coleslaw. There was a generous amount of brisket on the sandwich, where some US restaurants only give you two slices of brisket and call it good. I was stuffed with just this sandwich, and didn't need any sides.

We also got a regular burger with bacon and cheese and was really tasty with the sauce they used. Our server Domingo was attentive and kind without being overly aggressive. He seemed to always check on us at the right time. The restaurant setting makes me feel like I'm in Texas but with the benefits of a nice view of the river. I'd say this is a fun place to come with a group of friends and take advantage of their specials.
