I recently had to file a claim for my broken suitcase from Air Transat flight. I couldn't be more impressed with J.P .Grimard and the way they handled everything. From the very first interaction, the staff was professional and efficient. As my suitcase were "totalled" (I.e. Beyond repair) they quickly sent similar replacement. About 20 minutes later I got the reply below, and I wanted to share the info and bump up my stars, in case anyone else in the neighbourhood wonders the same thing: Review: This luggage store has a lot of nice quality luggage for sure, tons of options, and the brief encounters I've had with staff were all super friendly and professional. My review is based on living in the same area as this storefront and seeing them put out mountains of luggage in garbage bags every couple of months. It's just such a waste. They are very clearly suitcases and travel cases, you can tell from the shape of them and also, I've checked. It's like a heartbreaking future landfill sitting on the curb. It seems like these could so easily be donated to any number of organizations, including some in this very neighbourhood that sell secondhand goods to raise money for young families. Business owner response: "These luggage were damaged by airlines. Unfortunately, these luggage are irreparable and people do not want to bring them back to their homes when they come to visit us. We did everything to make them recycle, but the Eco-Center of Montréal does not want to take them. They told us there are too many components and they can not recycle them. On our side, we are trying to recover the parts that can still be used. Too bad that we are the one who collect 1 star. When the baggage is recoverable, we offer it to Médecins Sans Frontières and several charities. In fact, a commemorative plaque has been erected in the downtown area with our name in mind." read more

When my 35 year old suitcase zipper was broken beyond repair after arriving in Montreal, I needed a new suitcase as quickly as possible. After a Yelp (and "regular" search engine check), I found JP Grimard and checked out their online wares. If I lived in Canada, I could have ordered online for pickup (which is pretty awesome itself). Since my residence is in the US, I wasn't able to do that. BUT, I was able to text my question about whether it was in stock and available via an interactive text and email service on their site. I received emails confirming the availability (and colors!) of the suitcase I selected within a few hours (by one of the owners of the store!). As it was, the store was closed on the next day after my arrival (a Sunday), but I hopped the metro during a lunch break from the conference I was attending, and voilà! I had a new, fairly inexpensive but very nice suitcase within 90 minutes -- with only about 10" needed in the store itself since they had the bag ready and were helpful with different options (in case I changed my mind after seeing the bag I had chosen online). They even gave me a demo/tutorial on how to use the locks (in case i found the paper directions confusing). The case looks like one of those (extremely) more expensive brands but was quite reasonable, too! One of the best transactions. Ever. This suitcase has made a few trips since then but has not let me down yet. I hope to use this one for another 35 years+! read more

This is the best luggage store in Montreal, probably in Eastern Canada, and quite possibly in the world. Not only do they sell a wide range of luggage of all sizes, they also repair luggage of all brands. And beyond that, they DESIGN and manufacture their own luggage. I called in here for a repair (broken wheel mount flange on a Swiss Gear suitcase. They addressed the problem competently, and pointed out a second flange that was cracked and also ready to break. Thanks to their foresight, I was able to take care of both problems at once. The staff are knowledgeable and capable. You can pay more elsewhere, but you cannot get better sales and service than at this store. Recommended as your first choice. read more

I have done business with this location numerous times. Funny enough they are in my neighborhood but I never knew what exactly they did until Air Canada damaged my suitcase & sent me here for repair. Service was quick, professional and suitcase was as good as new. Afterwards, I have been here to purchase travel items for myself or last May when my twins were travelling to Boston with their 6th grade class & I needed money belts, etc. Everything you need at your fingertips. I even got my hands on the Mickey Mouse Heys suitcase to match the one the other twin had and at a great price. The latest experience was service for my son's Swiss Gear backpack. I purchased it at Costco & one strap was falling apart within 1 month of use. I called Holiday Luggage and they told me they need to see it for repair. Since JP Grimard was an authorized repair point, I went to them and they told me right away it was a manufacturing defect. Since it does take 1 week even if they sent it, I went to Holiday directly to get it exchanged on the spot but JP Grimard's professional insight saved me from extra steps. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable & their parrot is hilarious: yes they have a parrot behind the cash who whistles at the ladies and talks. read more

The repair service was really dishonest! I went in for a wheel replacement on my little Samsonite cabin trolley and I was told the whole component would be replaced for 32$. I came in to collect it and noticed nothing had been replaced beside the little rubber wheel alone. It was an old spare piece they must have had lying around. A new set of rubber wheels and tools costs 13$ on Amazon. I surely am not falling for that anymore. read more

I took my tote bag here for repairs as the front zipper was not working. They fixed it in a few days which was nice and I went to pick it up. They changed a piece of the zipper and said they couldn't find the right match. The zipper was difficult to open and close and wasn't really working. They charged me $50. I told them the zipper isn't working and the work is not clean because a part of it has not been tucked back in properly. They said they would have to change the entire zipper and that it would cost $60. I said I've already paid $50 so the guy said "fine pay another $12". He was very curt with me. As if he really didn't want to do it and as if it was my fault that the zipper wasn't fixed properly. A few days later they called me back and I went to pick up the bag. The zipper they used looked very cheap quality. The entire point of me getting my tote fixed for $60 was because I liked the elegance of the bag. Now I was stuck with a functional but ugly zipper. I told the lady and she was nice and said "at least it cost only $12 to fix". I said no, it's costing me over $60 to fix. She looked into the matter and apologized. She went to the back to investigate. Out walked the other guy who I had dealt with the previous week and who I'm assuming is the owner just from his demeanor. He threw the receipt at me and basically told me to get out without saying so. He said "it took two hours to change that zipper". As if the whole thing wasn't their incompetence but somehow my fault. I believe in recycling and reusing and I appreciate small stores like this and how they are helping the community. However, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I was looking to buy a Pelican Elite cooler. JP Grimard carries them at a reasonable price and with free shipping. The order process was smooth and the shipping relatively fast given the size of the cooler. Highly recommended. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again. read more
