The coaches are super engaged and truly care about each athlete. There is a true focus on safety and form, which isn't always the case at other boxes. They are all really talented at providing little tweaks to help fine tune complex movements. I've overcome my fear of the barbell from working out here. The gym itself is pretty large and has ample supply of nice equipment, which is kept tidy and clean. The prices are very reasonable for what you get, and there are a lot of packages to choose from. There's a 10% discount for Children's/Brigham/BI hospital employees. Finally, the community is the best. There are usually icebreakers if new people are present, and it really feels like a family. If you're debating trying out Crossfit for the first time, I highly encourage you to give it a go at COTH!

If you want to get you health back in peak physical shape, look no further, cuz you've found it…read morewith Crossfit on the Hill. Promise. When I started (almost a year ago) I was "skinny-fat" You know that weird grey zone when people think you're in shape but when you take all your clothes off and see that spare tire around your waist and your flabby arms, you cringe? yea, that was me. Not to say I am a toned, fit, athletic model but I've had so many improvements (aka serious gainz) since starting last summer! I began by doing the "foundations course" classes. Its a great way to get one-on-one personal training with a coach to learn the basic movements and for the coaches to assess my strengths and weaknesses. My first couple of classes, I was thrilled to see so many walks of life there. It wasn't just shredded beef-cakes, and supple leopards, like I was expecting, but instead people older, younger, big and small. Crossfit is literally for everyone, since you scale based to what you are able to do. No one is pressuring you to work past your comfort zone (Which I was worried about) and never did I feel like I was going to puke after the workout since I listen to my body and moved at my own pace. Instead, there is a community( rather, a family) encouraging you and cheering you on! Its true what they say, often times in Crossfit, the person to finish last is the one that gets cheered on the most! I never had so many people cheer my name before! And every workout is different, which means- you don't get bored! Kettlebell swings, pull ups, clean and jerks, wall balls, deadlifts, rowing, double unders- I can go on!! All the coaches have lots of experience and come from different backgrounds, they each have their own special way of running class and are all very knowledgeable in their trade. Crossfit is for someone who wants to see what their body is capable of doing- never did I think I would run a 5k (let alone a mile) without stopping to take a puff of my albuterol inhaler. But guess what? I did it, and I have the coaches and the training at Crossfit on the Hill to thank. I cant even remember the last time I needed my inhaler! My endurance, strength, mobility and confidence has skyrocketed since joining. Some people think the price is extreme, but that's if you are one that puts their health on the back-burner. Fine, just keep sitting on the couch, watching Netflix and develop Diabetes Type II from living a sedentary life-style...paying for insulin/visiting doctors are WAY more expensive. If you're on the fence, just come in, meet the group and I guarantee you'll understand the magic that I'm talking about.

I'm really thankful this studio is around because it offers a really convenient Sunday morning…read moreclass for me. It's not my home studio but I appreciate the ability to take a strength class when my studio doesn't have one on the schedule. It's a bit of a drive for me, so I've only been maybe 10 or 12 times over the past year or so. The studio is on the smaller side and I have a friend who doesn't like it because she feels it's "dirty." I normally don't agree (though it is dark and on the smaller side, there are no mirrors in front of the weight stations because they are at windows, and the floor mats are pretty worn and old), but last weekend I did find a bunch of food gunk near my floor station. It looked like apple pie filling or something. I wiped it up but ... was kinda yucky. In general, I find the coaches to be fine and the front desk to be very nice. They were super helpful when I left a hat behind and came back a few days later to get it. Also the shower and restroom facilities are clean and spacious. Don't love that the water fountain station is in the lobby, but they can't really change the studio design. I don't find coaches to be super motivating or focused on sharing technical feedback, but I've also only taken strength or tread 50 classes, which I've heard coaches say are challenging to lead because there isn't as much to say. They also seem to run a lot of studio-specific promos/contests, like offering incentives for pre-booking classes and having raffles, which I think is a great way to keep up studio engagement and utilization. Street parking (free) has always been easy for me -- a big plus.

Great workout and the coaches are so helpful specifically on the weight floor and making sure you…read morehave good form. Every workout is different and I like that you are given both modifications and ways to challenge yourself. All the staff are friendly and approachable and the studio is pretty clean!
