So I normally wait till my 3-4 hair appointment before I make a review so here goes. First, I only go to Leandra she's the owner of the location, so I'll be reviewing her not the business. Leandra is very knowledgeable about natural hair and how to repair it back healthy. As you seat in her chair she tells you what she is doing to your hair. If you are like me and have questions about the products being used and why then, don't hesitate to ask her. I was surprised when she was willing to tell me step by step what she is putting in my hair, what she is doing, and why she is doing it. That is something I really appreciate about Leandra, is her work ethic when dealing with her clients hair. I see for her it's not about how many people she can get in, in one day, but more about educating her clients about their hair. Ever since I started going to Leandra I've seen changes in hair that I probably wouldn't see if I never found her. However, there is one thing I would suggest to her, is for her to allocate her time properly so her clients wouldn't have to wait 30-40 after the appointment time to be seen. I understand some days may be long and she may have a busy schedule, but I think she could arrange her schedule so her clients times don't overlap. With that being said, if you are a person that is punctual and like to stick to your timing schedule, then booking your next appointment with Leandra may not be a good fit for you. Unless, you plan that day you are getting your hair done as your "hair day" because it will take more than usual to get your hair done. On the other hand, if you are a person like myself that doesn't mind the wait time, then I think Leandra could work for you. As for the ambiance of the location, it is very calming and relaxing. Depending on the day you go in, you may hear some gospel, r & b, soul, or jazz music playing. VERY IMPORTANT about nail technician CINDYA!!! If I could give this place 0 STARS I WOULD. A lady named CINDYA, works as a NAIL TECHNICIAN. I used to be her loyal client a couple years back. I decide to hit her up and see what's going on now. She gave me the run down where it's at and the precautions they take. She said that they WASH and HAVE MASKS, including everyone else. SHE DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT SOCIAL DISTANCING, which is when you stay 6 ft apart! SO obviously all three are very different Precautions. Cindy, went on to be immediately impatient and rude and disrespectful. Just because I wanted to CLARIFY THERE IS SOCIAL DISTANCING. She said that, "So since you can't understand plain English. I can't and no longer would like to serve you. Thanks But no thanks. Too much complication." I'm laughing over here because the funny thing is, she sent this AFTER I caught her giving an attitude with me and I checked her and told her she said nothing about social distancing! And I said I'm good, thanks have a good night. Meaning, I DONT WANT YOUR SERVICES AT ALL!! She really needed to prove herself or SOMETHING, because she had the nerve to disrespect a women that is way younger than her Also, ladies if you want a LOYAL, and RESPECTFUL nail technician, do not go here. I don't know what that other lady is complaining about but I love my experience there and so did my girlfriend. We are frequently getting manicures and pedicures together so we know exactly what to expect. Since it's easier for me to describe the CONS of this establishment, I will do that first. CONS: My girlfriend and I walked in from the front of the place... Well it's a little dated compared to the rest of the shop. I'm not saying it was nasty because it wasn't at all just dated. Easily put the waiting room needed a make-over. It could use a bright paint job, it was sort of dark (once again compared to the rest of the establishment), remove the carpet and continue with tile in that area. MIND YOU, the waiting area only covers about 15% of this establishments actual floor space. NOW the experience, for this I have to switch to the PROS side. "Oh, real quick to the owners if you read these reviews. Your waiting room was what made you guys almost lose our business. KEEP EVERY PART SIMPLE AND MODERN AT THE LEAST." I wanted to give you guys a chance because I looked at the actual styling floor. PROS: First of all, I want to say I'm going to leave somethings out because well it's a lot to rave about. Now if you are trying to make it to an interview and need a quick in and out experience, don't go here. THEY ARE NOT ABOUT THAT! This is a place to bring a close friend, boyfriend, or girlfriend so you guys and really chew the fat like kings and queens would. They take their time with your feet, they actually give you a massage you can relax with while getting it. Now I used to work in a spa, we used to prepare personal bowls of water for our clients, so do they (my bowl could have been bigger, I'm the male of course they didn't think I was coming). My girlfriend fit the bowl just fine. Real quick I read the other review, I didn't look at the emery boards because as long as they work why care, also I would rather someone use a cheap CLEAN emery board that they replace per client then just give me the barely washed ones. I always have to beware of that with the speed spas. The manicure was another big hit for me and my girlfriend. We also gave them the Groupon try and to be honest we stole their business that day. Yay, us. Great deal for what we got. The lady who did my lady's nails gave her a very nice design and excellent polish job (a lot of places charge extra for such a thing). They did something I truly prefer which was the buffer polish for myself instead for clear coat. The hand massage was great, no really, that was damn great. Oh let me go back the chairs in this place for pedicures where like freakin lazy boys my goodness. Don't fall asleep because it's possible. Oh yeh now the music for your experience can be modified for you because......THEY USE PANDORA! Smart move you ask me. Last but not least, let me say I know this place must have great customer service and I will easily explain. This will counteract the last review easily. When my service was done, naturally I finish first because my girlfriend was getting her design. My service lady had a new client that came through and left I guest she was thinking her stylist was going to be a different color, creed, or something; so the lady left. Now my stylist could have done a ton of things: clean-up whatever she wanted in the shop, went to lunch, got on her phone, or anything. My service lady walks up to me with the most confident face and asked "Would like another hand massage while you wait?" CONCLUSION:, THEY HAVE WHAT IT TAKES to make a nice experience for a nice date. If you want this to be the beginning of a first date, good choice. You haven't seen your friend in forever and want to spend some real time, go enjoy their spa treatment. I had a Groupon for mani/pedi. Bad deal! I would recommend that they NOT go to Joyous Look if they don't have more than 2 hours to use for a mani/pedi. Slow, slow, slow....and polish started chipping in just 2 days! Emery boards used were very low end like something that would be found at a Dollar store (12 in a pack for $1...cheap!) or from when I was a child trying to do file my own nails. Ria Grady at this place insisted that I have a dye job one week after a perm. My hair which was full and luscious fell out. I was foolish enough to go back for what she said would be deep conditioning. She only made it worse. Had to shave head and start over. read more
