Nasty food. I used to go here but never again. Now I remember why I stopped. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken. I have no idea what the meat was, but it wasn't chicken. The sauce...something the got out of a can. CORN Who Put Corn In Kung Pao? I have eaten it many, many times at different places and that was a first. Just a gross meal. Stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the hospitality. The Chicken Yakisoba was on special and became my choice. It was served with a side of steamed rice. We have lunched twice recently at Joy Teriyaki and been pleased both times. The food is good and the staff is friendly.

Unwelcoming experience, cashier was rude and rolled her eyes when asked if we could use the restroom after our purchase. Will not be here again. I would advise others to go to another Joy teriyaki location to avoid being treated poorly for having to use the restroom. Nobody should treat anyone bad for something all of us humans do. Noticed this restaurant from the parking lot of Albertsons and was feeling in the mood for teriyaki. The Goods : Great price for the economy we live in. The portion of food I received was almost too much for one person and I got the Spicy Chicken Bowl. The flavors were good and it was exactly what I was craving. Another good thing is the food was ready in under 2 minutes, great for someone who is on their lunch break. The Negatives : The chicken to rice ratio was 80/20. Was hoping to have more protein but with all the rice it does fill you up. The other is that the spicy isn't "spicy" for me. Next time definitely have to ask for extra sauce. Two scoops of white rice and two chicken breasts. The only thing plate has is a salad but you can order the salad as a side for $1.50 which still is cheaper. When done eating you have to bus your own table. Cashier doesn't clean up for customers. The negative is the overall appeal of the ply wood everywhere, could use better decorations. I must say this is good food. The staff appear friendly but when the owner waved a receipt at the cashier complaining about a low tip it drew my attention as very unprofessional and extremely rude to your current customers in your establishment. I then also looked up the standard in which tipping is used in different locations. For your establishment it is 10%!!! I give this place five stars not because the food is orgasmic, but because I am amazed that the food here is so much better than any other teriyaki place for the same price range that I have visited in the portland metro area. The staff here are friendly and hardworking. Your food is made in 5-7 minutes when you get it to go (in my experience on a Sunday afternoon). The teriyaki sauce actually has flavor here instead of the bland generic "ashtray" flavor I am accustomed to at other places. The quantity is great compared to the price and all in all the place is clean and well lit. I have only tried the spicy chicken so far and am very pleased with it. My only complaint is that they do not offer vegetables with the plates, but an iceberg salad instead which has little nutritional value to it. So I would love it if they would add the option for veggies or a salad. I will be back more and more in 2012. read more

Generous portions,great teriyaki sauce and sweet chili sauce. The rice and chicken were cooked well. We also ordered a shrimp kebab,since I love seafood. Shrimps were grilled and in my opinion,slightly overcooked,but not too bad. We left feeling pretty full. I went to this one today because I was short on time for lunch. And I will NEVER come here again. I have been forced to revise my previous review on this establishment. So today (aug 1st, 2015) we grab some food from here, the older Asian lady running the front was just out of this world rude. When we ordered she tried arguing with us about what we wanted, tried telling us what we wanted. She also refused to give any teriyaki sauce so the food was unflavored and dry... We both ordered the choose 2 combo with pork and chicken with extra rice INSTEAD of salad. Naturally we got extra rice and the salad cause she doesn't speak English well. But just immagine... Plain dry sticky rice and overcooked dry meat, yuck.... While we were waiting on our food she lost 6 customers, should have been a red flag ..And that's not even the worst part, I had 2 strains of hair on the very top of my dish... In plain sight. I've been going to Joy Teriyaki @ Halsey & 181st since they opened. They were on Fox TV, Ch 12, Dirty Dining with perfect score of 100, twice. Now, they opened the second Joy Teriyaki @ Glisan & 181st and now I go there because it's closer from my home. I am very happy to see them expanding. Congratulations! I love their Chicken Breast and Prawn Kabob combination. My family love Chicken Yakisoba, Mongolian Beef and Sweet & Sour Chicken, they are delicious. They have huge menu with cheap prices. Joy Teriyaki is in my neighborhood and I eat there fairly often. I primarily get take out, its nice to call in ahead and have it ready when I arrive. However the staff is very friendly and I don't mind ordering in and sitting to eat. The food always tastes very fresh and portions are large for the price. I recommend the sweet and sour chicken, the teriyaki chicken and beef combo, and the homemade in house kimchi. Have not had a bad meal there yet. read more

The food is okay. Moderately priced and it won't kill you. This is the second time I've been in, as my daughter and her roommates used to live near here. The prices have gone up by about 20% across the board, but they have a pot of free egg flower soup and jasmine tea as well as water for those dining inexpensively, or who hate all the typical soda selections like I do. The restrooms are clean enough, not great, as is the restaurant, what garnered them one star was that after buying a meal and as I was preparing to leave I was not so politely ushered out by the counter help when there was only one other table in the restaurant taken up. I use a walker and a cane to get around and had to confess to the woman that I was hurting and had just taken pain meds. Her response was that the owner doesn't like people sitting around. Nice. Not even long enough after food for my pain meds to kick in. I would have understood if they had been more than half full at any time while I'd been in there. I was quiet and caused no problems. I have tried many Teriyaki places and although this is not the best, the service and portions are the best. Most teriyaki places have that charred texture and taste. The teriyaki here is not special. It's not bad but it's not very good either. The meats are tender. Even though you see grill marks, I think they satay or bake in sauce and toss on the grill real quick. I could be wrong but the meat looks this way. The portions are generous. I always have meat left over to take home. Not a fan of the beef, pork, chicken curry & chicken yakisoba. Beef was rubbery. Yakisoba wasn't cooked right and I didn't like the huge chunks of chicken. They didn't offer enough chicken for the curry. I had about 6 pieces of meat and the rest veggies/sauce. They should really consider the curry chicken portion since they are generous with other dishes. Another big thing they lack is they don't serve steamed veggies. You get iceberg lettuce with a few shreds of carrot. As a previous review stated, very little nutritious value. Other places serve veggies or a more mixed salad. I would recommend the short rib & Katsu. Katsu is fried well. However, the Katsu at Halsey location wasn't good. It was not cooked fresh. The bulgogi is bland but okay. It's just like stir-fry I make at home except mine is better. Again, nothing special as far as food. I do like this location better than Halsey. It is bigger with more tables. The service at this location is also better. The young girl who mainly works the front is lively and welcoming. This is probably why I came back. I feel comfortable. I would say try it out for yourself. They have a variety to choose from. You might find something you like. read more
