This location is a little more off the beaten path than some of the others I have gone to, but still easy enough to get in and out. I'm not a big fan of the big banks "banksters" so a credit union is a good alternative to those. I like to know the places I'm doing business with and Spire Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative founded as the Twin City Co-ops Credit Union in 1934. Spire is headquartered in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, over near the Minnesota State fairgrounds. Okay, enough of the preachiness about banks! I have had checking, savings and loans through SPIRE and have recommended them for car loans to friends and family. Their rates are good and were always lower than the alternatives I looked at - especially through the manufacturers. TIP: Check on their interest rates if you're looking to finance a vehicle.

I went in to collect the documents I needed to get the vehicle. 3 people helped me and were all ready to take care of business. then suddenly someone came in and said "Well actually that plan was only good for people under 75. so, you mean to tell me that the bank sold a 74 year old, a protection plan that would expire in one year? HOW IS THAT RIGHT? if you ask me, that's taking advantage of the elderly. I sent a complaint to the better business bureau and spire bank had the adasety to address me a letter calling me "Mrs. Brown" and said that my grandma was not taken advantage of. And also never followed up with the vehicle. It's now been over a year.

I attempted to refinance with Wells Fargo from a prior loan, and boy was that a dumb idea on my…read morepart. I went to who I was told was one of the best teams in the area. Everything went pretty well until the appraisal, which was full of errors. I pointed that out to Wells, who indicated they'd "look into it." Wrong square footage, unfit comparable values that were done by an unlicensed trainee appraiser, even had comments about the basement that my house doesn't have-the list goes on from there. You'd think that this would prompt them to at least get a second opinion, right? Wrong!!! It took them nearly 5 months (and two investigations) to come to the conclusion that their appraisal was unassailable, despite the fact that I'd already received a second opinion from another appraiser with another bank that clearly indicated everything I'd said was wrong with the original appraisal was in fact wrong. They followed this up with their customer service recovery personnel trying to tell me that there are things that aren't in my house that are in the second appraisal! Impressive considering the guy has never set foot in my house. If you'd like your loan or refi to go like this, with erroneous home values assigned at nearly 30% less than your home value, then by all means choose Wells Fargo!
