I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Joshua Au and his team. Before seeing Dr. Au, I had been struggling for months with significant nasal congestion and difficulty breathing, without really understanding what was causing it. Dr. Au was the one who finally got to the bottom of what was going on. He is incredibly thorough, knowledgeable, and straightforward. He explains things factually and gets right to the point, which I personally appreciated. Throughout the entire process, from testing and imaging, to discussing my options, to surgery and post-op care. He made sure I understood exactly what he was seeing, what he recommended, what he was going to do, and what I could expect afterward. I never felt like I was being rushed through the process or left wondering what was happening. I ultimately underwent sinus surgery, septoplasty, and turbinate reduction with Dr. Au, and I am so grateful that I trusted him with my care. He found and addressed issues that had gone undiagnosed, and I am now breathing better than I have in a very long time. Dr. Au may have a very direct, no-nonsense communication style, but behind that is an exceptionally skilled and thorough physician who takes his work seriously. When it came to something as important as surgery, that was exactly what I wanted. I also want to recognize his office team. Everyone I interacted with throughout this process was professional, helpful, and made navigating my care easy from beginning to end. Having a great physician is important, but having a professional and dependable team supporting that physician makes a difference as well. I have already referred a couple of people to Dr. Au, which is probably the best testament I can give to how much I trust him and his expertise. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for an ENT who is knowledgeable, meticulous, honest, and focused on finding and treating the actual cause of the problem. Thank you, Dr. Au and team, for taking such good care of me, and for finally helping me breathe again. read more

I recently moved to Danville and was looking for an ENT doctor to help me with an ongoing issue I had been dealing with for over 18 months. I had an excess of thick mucus dripping down the back of my throat, which caused persistent coughing. I suffered through several sinus infections, and my coughing eventually became so severe that I had trouble sleeping and experienced uncontrollable coughing attacks. Previously, I saw two different ENT doctors in Sacramento who ran tests and were trying to get to the root of the problem and a solution. When I moved to Danville, I chose to see Dr. Au. He truly listened to everything I described. During my first appointment, he conducted a thorough assessment and spent a significant amount of time explaining what he believed the problem was and how to solve it. My husband and I were amazed by how much time he spent with us on that very first appointment because we knew he had other patients waiting for him. But he didn't rush us out. He answered every question. We left the office feeling better about finding a way to get me back to a better quality of life. Dr. Au is clearly an incredibly intelligent man, but beyond his knowledge, it was his ability to listen and explain things clearly that truly stood out. Fast forward to surgery day. I underwent bilateral endoscopic sinus surgery, septoplasty and turbinate reduction. At this point, I already had the utmost respect and confidence in Dr. Au and I felt calm, knowing I was in the best hands. The week after surgery I sent him probably 10 messages on MyChart asking questions and letting him know about little things that alerted me like swelling and a headache. Even though the aftercare literature covered these symptoms, I am a bit of a "worry wart" and I felt I needed to ask Dr. Au if these things I was experiencing were okay. Not only did he respond to every single message I sent him but he even told me if I wanted to be seen before my scheduled post-op which was in a few days, his office would squeeze me in. I called the office and his wonderful staff squeezed me in that day. Dr. Au checked me that day and again answered all of my "million" questions. He never tried to cut me short or hurry out. He is the best listener and made me feel so comfortable. I feel so good now. I'm sleeping well. No coughing and my symptoms are gone. I feel like my old self again. I can honestly say in my 60 years, Dr. Au is the best doctor in every category that I have ever seen. Hands down, I don't even have to think about it. read more

I had my first visit with Dr. Au. 5/26/2026 he was my third ENT I tried to figure out my challenges with virtago. Dr. Au is amazing. He was straight forward and practical. He provided more information that I have ever received from the other ENTs. I strongly recommend him. His staff is very welcoming. He answered all my questions. I left very satisfied with his explanation. read more

I used to see Dr. Au as my general ENT. My ears get clogged up from time to time and I need professional help. I've probably been 2-3 times over the last 5 years. Overall, I would say Dr. Au is a very to-the-point guy, gets the job done with ruthless though absolutely painless efficiency. The reason why I am even writing this review is because of Linda, the receiptionist/office manager. What an absolute nightmare. The last time I went to this office in San Ramon, the person who was scheduled in front of me was late (it seemes like everything is scheduled in 15 minute blocks) - Linda went berserk on the person who was late, making sure to be extra rude to that person and then extra polite to me. It seemed like she couldn't handle a somewhat basic failed expectation - that the person who was scheduled in front of me was late. Now fast forward to today, I had an appointment on Friday at 11:00, routine 10-15 minute ear cleaning. I had something come up, as that is what happens in life, and my wife actually got on the phone to reschedule the appointment (Tuesday). Linda got really righteous about cancellations, citing that I had canceled once before in 2021, giving my wife an earful, which, in turn, resulted in her giving me an earful when I got home. 2021 cancellation? That was 4 years ago and during the pandemic? What kind of receiptionist is this? 0/5 Stars for Office Management and Receiptionist Linda 3/5 Stars for the Cold but Effective Dr. Au 1/5 Stars in the aggregate If you don't have options and are having some ENT emergency - sure, go see Joshua Au, MD. But if you have options, go somewhere else, as in any ENT that can handle basic scheduling without losing themselves. Below basic. read more

My grandmother went in for an appointment, and was hardly given the time of day. Dr. Au did not read through her file to even understand what she was coming in for, and then disregarded her questions, not giving any explanations. He is perhaps a capable doctor in certain areas, but our family will not be returning to Dr. Au for any services. August 2025 read more

Dr Au changed my life. I suffered from chronic sinus infections for 30+ years, several a year. When we got John Muir medical I was able to see Dr Au. After examination and MRI he told me how he'd fix the problem but I was very skeptical bc of a previous procedure by a different doctor. After a few months I decided to go ahead with the surgery which was in 2018. Since then I had one sinus infection. I can breathe and don't have to worry when I'm going to get horribly sick. I'm forever grateful for his dedication and skill. Thank you Dr Au. read more

I came to Dr Au last year after almost my entire life of not being able to breathe out of my nose, and having constant sinus pressure and discomfort. This would effect my daily life, I couldn't smell, lost my sense of taste, migraines, my gums would be inflamed because I was a mouth breather, sleep wasn't restful, had to take breaths while also eating at the same time, constant pressure in my face and sometimes even trouble swallowing. Miserable. I've been to a few ENT's throughout my childhood and teen years and multiple doctors told me I just have allergies. Years of being told to just take Claritin D and Flonase. I finally got a referral and saw Dr. Au. Dr Au diagnosed me within 5 minutes of my appointment and immediately had a treatment plan for me. I ended up having a sinus surgery to remove polyps in my sinus cavities which went great and I had 0 issues. I can finally breathe through my nose, and I can finally for the first time ever smell and taste, and breathe through my nose!! Something I'll never take for granted because I know how awful life is without it. Dr. Au changed my life and I'm so grateful. I feel like I have a brand new life and I've never felt better. I would 100% recommend coming here and seeing Dr. Au, his two young front staff are also so kind and helpful. read more

My husband had a partial thyroidectomy done by Dr. Au .... a pretty routine surgery. He ended up losing a lot of blood and had to remain intubated due to swelling. He had to stay in the cardiac icu for a few days. It was horrific. read more

Dr. Au would not explain the possibilities that were causing my nasal mucus. He prescribed a medication which I asked about regarding it's effects, yet he did not give me any. After our meeting, I looked online and read from many sides including the Mayo Clinic and WebMD that this prescription could cause major effects and should not be used for more than a few months. I spoke with the him on the phone afterwards and he said he prescribed it to persons for their entire lifetimes and would not acknowledge its harmful effects. Dr. Au is not a reasonable man, don't waste your money, time or health with him. read more

Just had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction with Dr Au. Every part of the experience with him was great. Dr. Au cured my best friend. He knew her problem right away and fixed it. I will refer him to every one!! Thank you Dr. Au

I had the most amazing experience with Dr.Au. From the initial call to book my first appt, through scheduling for surgery, the surgery itself and post op appt, it couldn't have gone smoother. Clear communication and professionalism is what you will get when you deal with his practice. I wish more businesses and doctors offices would operate like him. He communicated clearly what to expect from start to finish of my surgery, and more importantly, gave me the gift of breathing again. Something I didn't even know could be so amazing. For years I went only breathing at half capacity due to several traumatic nose injuries that went untreated as a teen. When he cleaned out my nose at the post op septoplasty appt, he asked if I was ready to take my first breath...I did and I was brought to tears of joy. I cried uncontrollably because he fixed a problem that I had lived with for years because I didn't know it could be solved.! I'm forever grateful for Doctor Au and I highly recommend him for your needs. read more
