Second time eating here. Dinner this time, lunch last time. Wife got enchiladas and I had the blackened fish. We each got sweet potato fries, that were very good, she had bean soup, excellent, and I had spinach, also very good. Both our entrees were excellent. The fish has a sauce over it, slightly spicy mayonnaise type. The service was good, but a little slow. No idea why because they were not busy this time, and service was better with a big crowd last time. The appearance is classic Tex mex. read more

2:40 Monday afternoon, needless to say that they are not busy at all. The chips, salsa and drinks arrived at our table promptly. We had to wait a little while for our waiter to take our order. My wife ordered the Taco salad and I ordered the Combo Loco. ( Steak, chicken and shrimp with peppers and onions over a bed of Spanish rice. The flavor was pretty good but I'm still looking for all of the proteins, peppers and onions. The shrimp were definitely that bag of 100 TINY shrimp from Walmart that wouldn't cover a dime and the amount of steak and chicken was minimal at best. Most Mexican restaurants, you're going to have to take some home, at this place you better bring some food in a bag. Oh our waiter brought us the food and we say him again until he brought us the check. I would understand if it was the middle of supper service but there might have been five small tables seated. We were travelling through Magee, heading back to Texas, when we saw the billboard for Jose's. Since I could eat sushi every day, and my husband could eat pizza every day, we compromise with Mexican and Tex-Mex a lot, lol. We saw their old location first, but luckily there was a sign on the door directing us to their new location a couple of blocks away next to the Walmart. The big yellow building was easy to spot and we had shown up shortly after they opened at 10:30am. They are clearly busy, as people were already funneling in for an early lunch. They also must cater as I saw an employee helping two ladies to their car with multiple huge trays wrapped in foil! The building had a nice atmosphere and I found the décor appealing and comfortable. I think they only have tables here, but the place has a lot of seating, so I may have missed something around the corner. The service is excellent! We had multiple staff members stop by the table to see how everything was going, they must have really great training and management here. They serve your drinks in cute little pitchers, but I saw no alcohol on the menu and saw another review state this city is dry. I enjoyed my sweet tea and my husband liked his soda. They started us out with complimentary chips and salsa and we added on a small queso for the excellent price of $2.95. The chips are outstanding! They must be made in house as they were warm, crispy and delicious! The salsa and queso were very flavorful, but they lacked heat. Living in Texas, we are used to some spice, but again, these were very flavorful and we still enjoyed them. The prices were great, lots of items in the $6-8 range! The menu is more Tex-Mex than Mexican, but we love that! Er, um, Miss-Mex? Oh, you know what I mean! My husband got the nachos and really liked them. His only note was that there were not enough jalapenos on them. When we arrived, I had scrolled through the reviews and they kept mentioning the crispy tacos. I rarely crave crispy tacos, but I would be nuts not to try their most popular item! They let me get one beef and one chicken, both are pulled. I was pleased to see the crispy tacos were actually flour instead of corn! I love that, such an interesting texture! The beef and chicken were both tasty and well seasoned, though I liked the beef a little more. The lettuce was great, but the tomatoes were chopped tiny and starting to get a little mushy so I removed those. The beans were okay, and the rice was pretty good. A very solid and filling meal! Neither of us could finish our meal and we were really pleased with the value, we got such a good deal! As we continued the trip back to Texas, we couldn't stop talking about what a great find this was. We had takeout 2 weekends in a row and it was delicious! Our favorite Mexican restaurant!

Don't go during baseball tournament season...place gets full of 8-12 year olds eating tacos and quality and service is non existent. Atmosphere is chaotic at best and the loud voices of a hundred kids will drive you insane. We left without our takeout order tonight after being ignored at the register/pick-up area for 10 minutes only to be told "We're busy" when we finally got someone to acknowledge us. We left as not to impose any additional burden to their "busyness". Seems like this place is catering to the tourist/baseball tournament crowd and has forgotten the local people (who are victims of the management's volume mentality) who made them successful. read more

We are passing thru town. The Best Western girls suggested Jose's. The chips were the best we have ever had! The salsa tasted like homemade! I had Chimichanga and Hubby had steak and shrimp. Both were amazing! My Chimichanga was sooo good!! I am so full now and I didn't quite eat all of it! The staff was very nice. Hubby has very severe allergies so we have to be very careful about oil, etc. The first server went and got help. Carlos came over and was very good at finding out about ingredients. He was very friendly....and checked on us often! We definitely will stop here again when headed to Gulf Shores!! read more

Fantastic staff. Owner came and chatted with us and even gave us keychains and a free dessert. Yes drinks are served in small pitchers. Which comes in handy with spicy food. Food was excellent. Catfish was great. Fries where like Arby's. Portions for sides are huge and four pieces of catfish left my dad full. The Mexican food was just a bit spicy I had the enchiladas. Nice big side salad with iceberg lettuce and cheese. Lots of room for the four of us in the booth and although there was a lot going on in the restaurant it wasn't too loud.
