Stopped here on a Saturday night on the way to an event for a quick app and a drink. We sat at the bar top, the place was nearly empty minus a few other couples. The bartender was not the friendliest I've ever met, but the guacamole was good. I would come back if I'm in the area to try more menu items, but honestly am never in this area. The servers are all sweet and make you laugh! You get your food fairly quickly for how many people are eating there at that moment. Their queso is DELICIOUS. It's pretty noisy in there with all the people, plus I think they also have some music playing in some speakers and shows playing on the tv. But overall still a good place to grab a bite! read more

Went to Jose's for Mexican and margaritas with some friends and all of a sudden we can't be served because our IDs are "fake". We are all 22 and 21 years old...! They overcharged us for items; prices clearly stated on the menu. Argued with us about that. Finally took some of the overcharges off but not all. Received incorrect order. I really like this place. My wife has been there many times, and today I went there for lunch as my first visit. It is a lovely clean, spacious, comfortable and nicely furnished restaurant. The service was very good. It was efficient, friendly and professional. The corn chips and dip were very nice...and plentiful. After those I ordered tacos and empanadas, my wife had empanadas and guacamole. Everything was really, really good. As it was lunchtime, we didn't order any alcohol. The iced tea my wife ordered was, apparently, very good and the coffee I ordered was as good as I have had anywhere. I rarely award five stars, but this place is a star amongst Mexican restaurants in the mid-state. We will be back. read more

Not memorable at all. Chips all broken up like it was from the bottom of a crushed bag. Salsa tasted like it came out of a can, not housemade. I ordered the enchiladas suprema which consists of a beef, chicken, cheese enchiladas. Enchilada sauce tasted ketchupy to me. Shredded cheese on top wasn't melted, like it was an afterthought. My husband ordered the carne asada which was very flavorful. The rice and beans that came with it were not worth eating. The beans were very watery tasting and no seasoning. Won't be back. read more

I understand stretching a budget...but when picking up a to go order and you get water queso (small things count) that's disappointing. I don't complain and usually make dinner. Great to have a new Mexican restaurant in Greenbrier! The place is very clean and everyone was very friendly during both of my visits. All their food is quite flavorful and their menu has several items not found on the typical Mexican restaurant menu. Their salsa is excellent and a little spicier than most places. An example of their unique menu items, their take on the standard Chile Relleno: two (grilled - not fried) poblano peppers stuffed with cheese, wrapped in a thin egg omelette, topped with red sauce and beef chunks. I love this place! They have a great choice for vegetarians. I like the vegetarian chimichanga best! This place is hopping on certain days and times of the week, but that isn't often which is concerning because I would hate for it not to survive like all the other Mexican places that have arisen in Greenbrier. It gets so slow there's usually one guy running the dining room so he's pretty busy trying to keep up with the demands of waves customers. I think that's why people are complaining about the service. But I think they deserve a pass, especially if it's one person's job to be server! Anyone who's been a server knows even with a lot of people on a team, it can be overwhelming. I would suggest that maybe they get a bell for the front door. I think that would definitely aid in serving new arrivals in a timely manner. Regardless, the food is awesome! read more

The first thing my wife and I noticed when we walked in was the hand carved furniture. The tables had beautiful table top carvings which were protected by some sort of clear acrylic allowing diners to see them. This shows to me that this is no "here today, gone tomorrow" restaurant. Even the booths had "Jose's" hand carved into the wood. Food choices are very good for vegetarians and quality of meals exceeded our expectations. My wife and each tried different items to broaden our selection of items - well worth coming back to in the Greenbrier area. Prices are reasonable and service was fairly fast and courteous. read more

I absolutely love Jose's! It is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant around. There have been times when service was slow but it's never been a huge problem for me and its always made up for by the awesome food and pleasantness of the staff. Not to mention Jose himself can often be found greeting, bussing and waiting on customers. He's a super nice guy. The remodeling they recently had done is beautiful and they are able to serve liquor now. My favorite dish is the Avocado enchiladas. So. Good. And their salsa is always spot on with fresh flavor and is pretty spicy, which I love. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone and I do! read more
