Body Kneads is tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood in Gilbertsville (you'd never find it without Yelp or word-of-mouth), and the owners have done an amazing job with the space. There's ample off-street parking (bonus) and an easy, ADA-accessible entry. There are multiple treatment rooms (at least two of which are equipped to do couples' massages), and the whole vibe of the place is zen-like and calming. I was placed into the care of Chad, who asked me about my areas of concern, the kind of pressure I like (in this case, I was after something pretty "kneady"), and he got to work. Getting the knots out of my shoulders wasn't easy but he did it. At the end of my 90 minutes, I felt better than I had in weeks. Am I still stressed? YES (life is just like that sometimes). But Chad and Body Kneads helped work out the physical manifestations of that stress, and I couldn't be more grateful for that. This isn't terribly constructive. The lady was nice enough, I guess, aside from what I wrote above about the hair criticism. The blow out was okay, BUT FORTY DOLLARS. $40!!!! Uh, okay. I wasn't asked what side I part my hair and when I mentioned it was on the wrong side, no change. The amount of product in my hair makes me want to wash it - 20 minutes after I left. It feels gross and is weighed down. No volume. Not gonna lie, you guys. I'm pretty upset. If you're going to berate my hair please do a good job. Please don't tell me that your product won't weigh my hair down when I comment on how much you're putting in it. I have been searching for a good place with fair prices, and a stylist that I can count on to be consistently creative and careful each time I visit. I started going to Joseph earlier this year and he and his salon are all of the above. Not only that, but he really listens to what I want, and gives honest feedback on whether it will work with my hair type and routine. I even got my husband, who is resistant to getting his hair cut and beard trimmed, to look forward to going to Joseph. AND he schedules his appointments before he leaves each time. I have been going to Joseph's for as long as I can remember and I've always been happy with any service I've gotten there. From hair cuts and color to nails, massage, facial, and brow waxing, I've never left the salon without a smile on my face and feeling beautiful. The staff is friendly, courteous, professional and knowledgeable. I also bring my granddaughter when she's visiting for hair cuts and the occasional Rainbow highlights which she loves. This was my first visit to Joseph's Salon. I decided I needed a change and after passing this place numerous time finally got the courage to call and make an appointment. My first experience was very positive, starting with making the appointment. Dawn was my stylist and she took the time to time to explain differences in colors and highlights that would look good with my current hair color. Wonderful place overall. Every employee is positive and greets you with a smile. They always offer you with a water or coffee when you walk in as well which just adds to the whole welcome experience. I asked, "aren't you supposed to rinse that off first" and she rudely said "no... it's barbicide" like yes I can read thank you. My scalp started to burn as I was sitting on the chair longer and longer. I did a quick Google and sure enough the combs are supposed to be washed off before use. I attached pictures of my Google search to prove this is not ok practice. Not to mention the comb she was using looked like it was ten years old and had broken prongs. Not sure how you can get a proper cut while using a comb that's broken. To top it all off, not once was I asked if the water was ok while she was washing my hair. I had to ask twice for her to turn the temperature down. She didn't ask if I wanted my hair blow dried and just started doing it. She didn't ask how I wanted it styled and just turned on the straightener. When I said "oh you dont need to straighten it, I don't like using heat on my hair" she got snippy and said "ok you can just follow me then." And turned the straightener off. When I was being checked out I was not asked how the service or my experience was and was basically just given the price and told me I can read the monitor. Horrible experience. Let's hope my scalp is okay and I don't need to go to the doctor!!!!
