I would like to first state that I normally wouldn't review a public school, as I feel everyone's…read moreexperience varies. My daughter had a rough go at a different HS, and recently transferred here... mid way through her senior year. At the other school she experienced every issue you can think from a public school; physical abuse, bullying, emotional abuse and a lack of support from staff. When transferred here, she excelled! PGHS has been a godsend! Our family has been so grateful for the experience and her chance to finish high school in peace. The staff are friendly and responsive, the atmosphere is clean and respectful. We are overwhelmed with the difference 3 mikes makes.

Ms. Pohl, however, is irresponsible and has scheduled numerous meetings with my sister, only to not attend every single one. Additionally, the school must be lacking in funding because why is it that there are 2500+ students divided into two lunches, first lunch and second lunch, but second lunch barely has any food left to serve! My sisters wake up early to pack their own lunches when lunches at Pleasant Grove should be provided to students. They don't even have utensils, napkins, or trays to hold the lunches! Where is the school's PTA???

Even my brother didn't like her when he was forced to have her because she was impatient with him even though he's autistic and always behaved in her class. She was impatient and hostile with me if I was ever wrong on a math problem (and I'm talking if I made a typo error or multiplied wrong just a quick fix) when I'm great at math and always made it a point to behave. Whenever I needed to stand up against bullies she was mean and told me to "ignore them" but ignoring DOESNT WORK! Maybe it works for her oh wait it didn't not when that same bully called her the very name that describes her accurately (the b word). Hypocrite! You should've ignored him? Yeah what good did that do? Did you ignore him when he called you that? Exactly! Idk if she's still working there but I'm glad I don't have to see her anymore! I'm so glad my mom put you in your place and threatened to report you to the superintendent if you didn't change your behavior with me because the way you behaved was like that of a bully, it was senseless, counterproductive and disgusting. I always behaved myself in your class but you showed the same animosity to me and students who behaved themselves better as you did to the bad kids. I'm not dismissing the fact that we had bad students in class, I hated being with them too but you didn't need to get your anger out on the good kids. I'd say drop that stupid ego of yours and stop mistreating your students! And to some of the rude office staff including this tall African American woman who always came in either a frown and spoke nastily to me, I hope you know that your sins will find you out for carrying this attitude and ego of not wanting to help others. I learned you weren't just this rude with us students but were the same way with parents! You disgust me! I'm sure my mom put you in your place at one point because my mom doesn't take crap from anyone not even you!

They are one of the few schools that offer an exchange program which my son participated in. He took Japanese for three years and went to Japan his second year and we hosted two kids this past March. It was a wonderful experience and everyone had a good time. My sons education was always a priority to this school and it really showed. I never felt like my kid was just a number to attend that the school made money off of.

First one was kind of his fault because he left it overnight. Second one was locked up and stolen during school hours. The school refuses to acknowledge any responsibility or financial obligation to protect students belongings. This is, in a word, BULLSHIT. Further, my attempt to find a principals or vice principals number to make a simple complaint to, failed. There is no number to call to reach any administration or staff. Zero number. Nothing. No number to suggest anything....which is what i wanted to do. Cameras? Security? Seems obvious to me. Way to go, elk grove high!

I understand teenagers make mistakes, but the way this school handles situations is extremely frustrating. I constantly receive calls, emails, TalkingPoints messages, and notifications for every little thing my daughter supposedly does -- not looking forward in class, she can't look down, she's put in a group for a group project but can't talk or use her computer for references, being late, being on her phone, etc. One teacher allows music, but then my daughter gets in trouble for being on her phone at the same time. The communication is inconsistent and overwhelming. What's even more frustrating is the attendance issues. I receive notifications about tardies and absences, and when I call to clarify or correct them, the office acts like it's a simple attendance correction. Later I find out there were even more absences or tardies I was never notified about in the first place. The school is very quick to point out every flaw or mistake students make, but never acknowledges anything positive they do or explains what THEY are doing to help students improve. I made sure to hear both sides from the teachers and from my daughter and honestly, the teachers never admitted what they may have done wrong. My daughter was more honest about the situation than the adults were. Once I started holding staff accountable and speaking up as a parent, attitudes suddenly changed and they started treating her differently. The administration has also been disappointing. I spoke directly with the principal looking for support, and instead of helping, I was told he had "more important priorities" and would call me back. He never did. That says a lot about how concerns from parents and students are handled. I could go on and on. This environment is not supportive. Students need accountability, but they also need support, fairness, and communication from adults who are supposed to help them succeed. Even though this is a newer school, I had much higher hopes for my daughter's freshman year experience. Unfortunately, it has been nothing but stressful and disappointing. Before enrolling your child into this school, I strongly recommend reading reviews and speaking with other parents first. Communication from staff feels more focused on punishment and constant criticism rather than support or helping students succeed. Parents deserve honesty, follow-through, and staff who are willing to work with families instead of making them feel ignored.
