The extra events outside of school hours are super reasonable priced so that it's affordable to all families. All in all, our experience here has been top notch! One thing to note, it is a track school (year round school with 3 months on and 1 month off). My understanding is that they try to align siblings with the same months off but I have heard challenges where people have kids at different schools or are different ages and vacation scheduling gets challenging.

Although there were a few conflicts here and there, the majority of time was absolutely memorable. The 8th graders were nice to me when I was a little 7th grader. And as an 8th grader, I befriended 7th graders who were and still good friends of mine. The teachers are absolutely willing to put everything down to make sure if you really understand something. Whether it's them telling me to take classes I already took, or it's classes I am not yet eligible for, or blatantly pushing me in the wrong direction and having me take classes that don't pertain to my major, it's always wrong infomation. I don't know if they're underpaid and overworked, but this is truly ridiculous. Either hire more people or stop accepting more students than a department can handle. When I asked how to avoid getting misinformation/ if there is anything I need to do to not have trouble next time, the rude ass lady on the phone told me "Maybe you should try making an appointment ahead of time next time" AS IF I DIDN'T ALREADY CALL AND EMAIL THEIR TRIFFLING ASSES FOR DAYS ON END. Some of us work full time and can't sit on the phone for four hours waiting for someone to answer the damn phone. OVERALL: joke of a school, don't waste your time of money, I no longer will be and have plans to transfer as soon as possible.

For being in the top 20 of his class, he's been offered a full-ride to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and will join their Electrical Engineering program when he gets back from bootcamp for the US Air Force Reserve! My child is definitely an over achiever, but please don't sleep on Fortune School. I enrolled him as a Kindergartener. He's the baby of 6 and the only one FORTUNate enough to be in a charter school from beginning to end. The difference between my public school educated kids and him is glaringly obvious. He has been poured into not only at home, but his educators have literally empowered, and uplifted this kid to unimaginable heights, and the experience with my older children in public school settings was never like this. I especially appreciate the goal of "closing the achievement gap." That means that my little brown son wasn't unnecessarily sent home when he was in class talking too much the way public school did my older children. He was treated with patience. He was advised that there was a time and a place for his voice to be heard. He was given chances and not just pushed aside, overlooked, and treated like a nuisance. From Fortune Elementary School, to Ephraim Williams College Prep, all the way to Fortune High School, this kid was loved for 13 straight years outside of my home and I'm not just proud of the young man he is and is becoming. I'm also proud of every single staff member we've encountered along the way. Some of them were already a part of our lives, but the rest will always be as dear as family every time we cross paths. My son right above him also attended from 2nd to 8th grade. He was a bit more of a challenge, because he just didn't do as well in such a structured environment, but the teachers loved him and covered him as long as he was one of theirs. One day after work, I went to pick the kids up from daycare, and my provider advised me that child #5 wasn't allowed to leave the school, and I was advised to go there to get him. I was LIVID! I didn't feel like going the opposite direction on Stockton Blvd. to get him, and I was ready to give somebody at fortune school a piece of my mind about it. However, when I pulled up to the school, I parked directly in front of Mrs. Howards 3rd grade class and what I saw brings tears to my eyes even now and it's been 10 years. My son was seated at a table, obviously working on a difficult assignment, but Mrs. Howard was next to him, not seated, but on her knees, on the bare floor, tutoring him one-on-one. School had let out at around 4pm. I wasn't off till 5, and it took me about 30 minutes to get to the daycare, another 10 to round up the kids, and another 10, to drive back to the school. So here it is nearly 2hrs after school had let out, when Mrs. Howard should have been home with her own children, but she was sacrificing her free time to help ensure the success of mine. She has held a special place in my heart ever since. I have similar stories about, Monisha Blake, Odisa Nyong, Mr. Emeh (RIP), Malcolm Ajai, Mrs. Kirksey, Ms. Royal, Mrs. East, Mrs. Ibarra, Mr. Jones, Joseph Gambino, Stefon DuBose, Marcus Atkins, and many others. I would recommend the Fortune family of schools to any family that wants to give their child a quality education, while preparing them for college from the very first day. There's a business counter. I'm not sure where to buy daily parking permits since there are no machines that I saw. There are a few lug gentlemen chairs to hang out on downstairs and upstairs. It is a two story building. It's clean! And the classrooms are pretty big. Downside, no bookstore so you have to go to the main campus to get textbooks.
