I found this office just by looking for a location near my work after my usual dentist had to…read morereschedule my regular checkup due to a staffing shortage. I am pleased to have found Polished Dental Group. I actually really liked my other dentist so was apprehensive about going somewhere else, but I didn't want to wait because I thought I had a cavity. Well, unfortunately I was correct about the cavity. But fortunately I was really happy with the service I received. I'm a nervous dental patient with a small mouth. I'm sure I'm not a joy to work on. But both the hygienist and the dentist were patient and pleasant with me. When we first started the hygienist said I had to have full X-rays done but insurance only covers every three years. Immediately I figured I was going to have to pay a ton. But she explained if insurance didn't cover, it was only $10. This set me at ease immediately that they wouldn't nickel and dime me. My insurance covered anyway, but still. Additionally, all costs were upfront for everything. I opted for fluoride which my insurance doesn't cover. Was told cost before proceeding. When I checked out, I was also told how much my filling would be at next visit. It was all very reasonable. Like I said I'm a very nervous dental patient. During my cleaning and inspection, both the hygienist and dentist were vocal about what they were doing and that they would be gentle around my sensitive tooth (yes, the cavity!). Usually I feel like I am pulling away and wincing and generally freaking out. But their reassurances relaxed me, and I could calm down. And they were very gentle around the area so as not to cause me pain. I am so glad I found this office and so grateful for their excellent chair side manner. I can't say I'm looking forward to coming back (did I mention the cavity?), but at least I can be much less nervous about the upcoming filling.

He immediately explained on the phone that he does not take insurance and that he is able to set up a payment plan for future visits. When I walked in and met with Dr. Sams, I immediately knew I could trust him. He asked me about my problems and then when we got into the exam, he could tell exactly what I meant when I was telling him about my symptoms. He validated everything that I was worried about and explained everything to me and was very patient. He even handed me a mirror and showed me the things that he was pointing to in my mouth. I called Dr. Sams, he was very nice on the phone and he told me how much it would be, and to see him at 3 pm. Not only was he nice to me, but I had my elderly step mom with me, and he was very nice to her as well. He had no problem making me feel less anxious. He was very calming and kept telling me I was doing well and to breathe. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is having an emergency. He is all around a great guy. He told me he could do three different percedures, and I chose to have the tooth removed. He drew a tooth on paper and showed me what he would do for a root canal for so much money, and they he said he could remove the tooth for $377, but this included the exam and X-ray. It showed I had an infection into my jaw from my tooth. When he was done, he showed me the tooth so I could see it came out in one piece. Gave me pain meds and antibiotics. Great care.

When I cracked a tooth and needed other work done I decided to try the Dental Spa. And I am so glad I did, The initial exam was very pleasant, the dental hygienists were fun, gentle and kind. The massage chair and getting to watch the Olympics on the ceiling mounted TV really helped. It was decided I needed several root canals and some permanent bridges to replace some missing back teeth and redo my front teeth which were also losing the rather large fillings. It was scheduled and I was given a prescription for a sedative. They also gave me a whitening kit so my lower front teeth would be their whitest when the upper front bridge were made. I had the 5 hour procedure 4 days ago.I went into the relaxation room, laid down on a comfortable chaise with a fluffy blanket. There was a soft glow from a salt lamp, ocean sounds playing and a scented candle burning. After I was sedated they did the procedures. Next thing I know I was being tucked into my bed at home, no memory of the surgery at all. There was minimal swelling, very little pain and the temporary bridges look amazing, just like my real teeth. I can't wait until the permanent ones come in. They called me 2 days after the procedure to see how I was doing and had me come back in today to check my bite and make any slight corrections. It was a wonderful experience and I would really recommend The Dental Spa at Robinson, Dr. Runco and his entire staff to everyone.

I'm leaving this review to document my experience at Atlas Dental Specialists (Shadyside) for two…read morefront-tooth crowns. While the office is professional on the surface, my experience overall was extremely frustrating and costly. After my permanent crowns were placed, I developed persistent sensitivity in my right front tooth (cold and hot) that did not improve over time. I also felt a noticeable ledge/step on the back side of the crown near the gumline, which made me concerned about the fit/contour. Aesthetically, the crowns also looked longer and bulkier than expected with heavier incisal edges than what I was aiming for. When I tried to address these concerns, I was advised to pay for additional diagnostics (a wax diagnostic). After I paid for it, the office later terminated the patient-provider relationship instead of completing the planned corrections. What made the situation especially difficult was the refund process: the office confirmed in writing the refund amounts, but repeatedly stated the refund would only be processed if I signed a broad "release/indemnification" agreement exactly as written. The agreement was extremely one-sided. It went far beyond acknowledging a refund and included sweeping waivers and protections for the office, along with a "non-disparagement/online statements" section that, in my view, would discourage patients from speaking openly online about their experience. I was not comfortable signing something like that just to receive an agreed refund. Overall, I'm deeply disappointed by how concerns were handled. The communication and resolution process felt dismissive and, at times, misleading - more focused on protecting the office than responsibly addressing the problem. My takeaway is that the approach felt money-driven, and I left feeling I couldn't trust the process. I would encourage anyone considering treatment here to do thorough due diligence and not rely solely on online ratings.

Appointment was for 10:20. That time came and went. I asked when I'd be seen and they said "we're running late." (At 10:18, I had asked if they were running late and was told that they were not.) At 10:25 I asked the receptionist how long my appointment would take. Was told an hour. Well, I'm already ten minutes into my lunch hour and had expected to be seen at my appointment time. I said "nevermind, I'm leaving; you can keep my money" (had to make a $25 deposit before anything happened at all). They said "have a nice day," and I said "f*ck off." (Yeah -- i know that's wrong, but was so frustrated, and also I'm old and have no filter.) It's a downtown office and downtown workers obviously use them and can't be away from work for hours on end because a dentist doesn't keep appointment times.) This place has zero respect for patients' time, but theirs is SO important that I received NUMEROUS texts in the days leading up to my appointment. "...you have an appointment reserved with Atlas Dental Specialists on Wed, Oct 1st at 10:20 AM." And ".."please respond with C to confirm your appointment with Atlas Dental Specialists for October 1st at 10:20 am. If your appt is missed, or cancelled / rescheduled with less than 48 hours' notice, a fee of $50/hour of appt time will apply." So obviously THEIR time is important. Just not their patients' time. Also, every appointment is "separate." Cleaning is one. Examination is another. It's all about money money money with this place. They did refund my $25 deposit though. Terrible place. And now I have to find a dentist.

And now I have to get a second opinion because I've heard so many stories about how inaccurate her assessments are. The badly trained hygienist shoved the whole metal x ray holder in my mouth (the metal ring should be outside) for maybe a dozen x rays. I started screaming in pain and was even in tears. When the doctor came out she expressed no concern for my pain, just blaming my experience on my large tongue. It had never once been brought up before and it was a really crappy way to get around validating my pain. Later that day as I started having symptoms of a respiratory infection, I lost it. In addition to that agony and degradation, now I had to put everything on hold for nearly a week because of whatever nastiness was on that metal thing shoved to the back of my throat again and again, all while the "medical professional" blamed me for my large tongue. And I missed out on paid work I really needed. Dr Monahan hasn't responded to my other review or two emails. I will not contact her directly again but if she wants to apologize she can reach out to me. I am definitely going to report her and her practice and encourage others to do the same.
