Dr. Yu and her team were amazing, they took such good care of me, answered all of my questions, and never made me feel bad about what I had to say or about anything I didn't know. Now…read morethat I'm trying to find a replacement on the east coast, the difficulty in finding intelligent, compassionate, intuitive psychiatric counsel reminded me of my responsibility to the digital public in making a recommendation to y'all in the LA area. I was really extremely lucky to receive a referral for Dr. Levander -- he was able to see me speedily, so although I was initially tentative about the intake (like everyone, I've had some bad matches in the past with mental health providers), it was such a relief to touch base with someone who could meet me where I was. An extremely perceptive, funny, enjoyable, tuned-in person to dig through the muck with, he helped me out in a rough moment, and provided me with some tools beyond medical treatment to address certain unhelpful patterns in a practical way. Rates are what all rates for psychiatric visits are! Feeling OK was def worth this investment, and the folks in the downstairs pharmacy are so lovely and helpful, they even sent me prescriptions to the east coast free of charge when I was out of town during some intervals.

I was a client of Dr. Levander's for 15 years. When I first went to Dr. Levander he undoubtedly…read moresaved my life from a very deep depressive episode and for that I can be nothing but grateful to him. However in my opinion Dr. Levander is very liberal with psych meds. At one point he had me on two times the FDA recommended dose of Lexapro. Dr. Levander is also very abrupt and his communication style at times seems very off putting. There were many times where I felt talked down to by him. He views himself in a very positive light and I felt that lack of modesty in his demeanor. In the last year of being with him I started experiencing another depressive episode which was exacerbated by some sexual dysfunction which I had not experienced before. Dr. Levander was wise in that he did make me go on a very gradual tapering off of Lexapro. We tried three different medications but none of these made me feel ok. Later on I learned how Lexapro and SSRIs are notorious for sexual dysfunction. I told Dr. Levander that I had low testosterone and he never told me that having low T can lead to depressive symptoms. I think in general a pamphlet should be made telling patients what can exacerbate depression. Around this time I had also started using topical finasteride from a telehealth company. This is also notorious for causing sexual dysfunction and depression. Sometimes when people get off of SSRIs they can suffer from post drug discontinuation syndrome. I believe I was one of these people and for the last three years I have lived through alot of misery. Luckily after finding a right urologist who helped me up my T levels, finding a supportive psychiatrist who put me on medication which does not negatively effect libido, going to acupuncture weekly, taking b12 shots and walking an hour everyday, I have been able to regain some of my sexual function. A lot of people do not have the level of resources that I have and I would hate for them to go through what I did. For this reason even though Dr. Levander was very helpful for me in the beginning of my treatment, I still would not recommend him as a psychiatrist. There are people with great qualifications, who are more respectful, don't use abrupt communication styles and who in my nonprofessional opinion are more cautious in not overprescribing.

His office works fast to schedule calls with mental health providers, like myself, to gather my point of view for a client to help be as thorough as possible. He doesn't rush diagnoses and doesn't judge clients. His warmth and compassion shines through as we discuss a specific client and what they might need. He lets me know where he currently stands and what is being considered, and also asks for pertinent information that may help assist him in his process. I appreciate how helpful the front desk is, and they're so friendly! The office is able to send messages and schedule appointments that way, at least with providers when scheduling a time to discuss one of my therapy clients. The appropriate releases are sent immediately, as releases of information are extremely important for being able to discuss client care, and so this is done so efficiently that there is never a delay! I am impressed by the office and by Dr. Esmaili that I trust them to make decisions that are thorough and comprehensive.

I work as a trauma psychotherapist in the UK currently under the supervision of Dr. Janina Fisher,…read moreso please take my review as a customer experience as well as a peer professional. I was referred to Cathie by a Sensorimotor Psychotherapy instructor. Even though I'm a therapist I am always a bit hesitant with finding a new Therapist to go to, and Cathie immediately understood my issues on the first phone call. Our first session was by far one of the best sessions I have ever had as a client. I was able to access more than I have before, while also leaving the session feeling contained and able to go back out into the world, even after the work I did in our session. Our sessions were the most helpful thing for my PTSD, attachment injuries, and current symptoms (burnout, depression, nightmares, detached sense of self). She combines many theories and techniques, so the result is a very individualized session and treatment, as well as the possibility of treating many different issues at once. Most importantly to me, I referred many people to Cathie, and so far 3 of my friends have gone and the messages I have received have been amazing. They have been along the lines of "Cathie is amazing, thank you so much, I've never had therapy like this, our work was outstanding". As a therapist, I am often underwhelmed and defeated with my choices of decent let alone superior therapists with which I could refer people. I will continue to refer to Cathie and I would still be seeing her if I had not moved to England to work in a trauma center. I cannot emphasize enough how important her work is. If you are feeling stuck from the effects of trauma, childhood attachment injuries, and developmental wounds, Cathie is worth your time and money. If you're looking for greater access to the parts of yourself that conventional therapy rarely address, and if they do, take years to get to, please call her up. Tell her I sent you.

I found Cathie as I was hoping to receive EMDR treatment. She was in my network and seemed like a…read moregood fit. We worked together for several months, and it was a mixed experience -- and not totally due to Cathie. I was often exhausted (or, more likely, my brain was trying to tap out during difficult sessions). The issues with Cathie lay in her continual focus and negative responses to my having another therapist. She often tried to have me let go of her or severely compromise my schedule to see them on different days. She ended up stopping our sessions and cited this as one of the main problems, which wholly confused me, especially as she knew I had a therapist when we started. I also signed a contract that made it seem I couldn't terminate the sessions, but Cathie could. It also seems that she isn't a thoroughly experienced EMDR specialist. We began our sessions with my eyes open but, I later learned, that having your eyes closed is a requirement. She later received more training and we began what seem to be more accurate EMDR sessions. If I weren't paying at an incredibly affordable rate through my insurance I likely would've been more frustrated with it overall. I did have some really interesting experiences during sessions and feel that I learned some good things about myself and my history. It's likely Cathie would be better for someone who doesn't have a regular therapist and is interested in pursuing talk therapy with EMDR.
