FYI this is only a review concerning the watch repair services available. I brought in a vintage Omega Seamaster De Ville that I was told could be serviced without issue. It was running quite fast at the time. Upon receiving the watch back, it is keeping time much more accurately, however the crystal had been scratched significantly. I was assured by the store that the watch maker is a professional and that this could never have occurred in his care. He said it was likely because the watch was cleaned that I could see the scratches on the crystal more clearly -- the only thing that was clear is that this was a load of malarkey. I have an excellent memory and I would have noticed if there was even one new scratch. There were so many scratches (superficial/deep, small and large) that it did not even require a second's thought to realize it had been damaged. It looked like it had been mailed by a bear. The gentleman offered to try and buff it out, this did not help. To give you some background the Omega Seamaster De Ville has a monocoque case. This should only be opened by professionals, who will not damage the crystal or case (typically with a crystal lift). Unfortunately, the crystal on the watch looks like it has been through the zombie apocalypse. To spend $200 on a service to have the movement function, but the crystal damaged is not ideal. I would recommend finding a watchmaker on AWCI who is more qualified for any of your vintage watch needs. Also, on a complete side note, the bracelet was placed in the wrong orientation so that the clasp opened on the wrong end. I fixed it myself, but that is literally something that should not happen in the hands of a competent watch maker. read more

I brought three rings and a pair of diamond studs to Joseph to be able to resize two rings, realign and then resize a ring, and then take some loop backs off some old diamond studs that had clips on the back. I came in on a Saturday and Joseph walked me and my father through everything. Made sure the sizes were correct and then walked through the other two jobs. I called them 5 days later and he said everything was ready! We came down and had exceptionally beautiful results and great prices. They did an excellent job on my grandmother's ring as well as the diamond studs. He took his time explaining everything and did wonderful work that we didn't even know was possible! We will be back and wish them many long years in business. read more

I'm a dude. As dudes, we work very hard at being lazy. One of the ways we accomplish this is by utilizing the knowledge of other "dudes". The best way to do this is to "have a guy". You know what I mean, you need your roof done, you mention it to a buddy over a few beers, and he says, "I have a guy". You use that guy, everything is great, and now, he's *your* guy. Joe Conte is *my* guy. Not originally. Originally I had "a guy" at a jeweler in Waterbury. Then my friend brought me to Joe. First of all, when you go to a jeweler, usually some tool in a half-assed business suit comes to greet, er, sell you. Joe wears jeans. Jeans and an apron. A dirty apron. He's got jeweler's goggles on his head. His fingernails are dirty. There's a dog behind the counter. They don't just sell jewelry, they make it. After you build your dream piece, you'll realize the price is right in line with something you'd have bought. I was so impressed (with the price!) that my fiance is getting TWO wedding bands -- one for either side of the engagement ring. His price came in at around half what I had expected, based on my engagement ring experience, so why not look ACE. Beat that story at the gym on neighboring treadmills! So, hey, need a ring? Wow, Joe is incredible. He is amazingly kind, and very good at his work. I wanted him to replace my center stone with a new one, and did a great job. I also had him change the prongs on my ring, which turned out incredibly beautiful. I will definitely be going to him when I want to re-set my center stone into a pendant :) I'm extremely glad to have a jeweler in town, and won't go to anyone else! read more

I am very glad that I got our beautiful custom engagement ring from Joe. We received personal attention and ended up with exactly what we wanted. I asked for the ring a few months in advance. At one point Joe missed one of the time estimates he provided, but the ring still came in with time to spare. I had been purchasing jewelry and having repairs done and referring others to Joe for about 10 years. Apparently I was not a good enough customer as repairs began to take months to complete. Every time I would call to see if the repair was done he would say another week.......3 months later!!! If I purchased something existing in the case it would get sized right away in order for him to get his $$$$. I had heirloom pieces I wanted him to incorporate into my diamond ring and he told me it cannot be done buy the setting in my case if you want that design!!! After feeling like I was being charged HARD and waiting months for repairs I took my business to another local designer. They drew to scale the ring I wanted and said yes this absolutely can be done with your sentimental pieces. Clearly customer satisfaction is not a priority. read more

Ask how much any repairs cost before you leave your stuff - I was charges 50$ for a watch battery replacement and to have the prongs on a ring pushed down- 10- 20 minutes worth of work for 50$ - I had the same battery replaced for 10$ and a ring setting fixed for 25$ at another jewelers. read more

I purchased an old, very beat up Tiffany cuff bracelet at a consignment shop this morning. The sales lady at the shop recommended I get in touch with Joe Conte to fix the damage. He said he could fix it for a VERY reasonable price, so I bought the bracelet, completely unsure of his work as I'd never met him before.
