HK Diner, which translates to Hong Kong Diner, is a pretty good restaurant. However, I would say…read morethat they were mainly a Malaysian restaurant (the owners are from Malaysia, and there are so many Malaysian dishes on the menu), and they should really capitalise on that fact and not just blend in the chinese food scene where they are mostly from Hong Kong. I suppose it is what people are used to, and maybe they thought by saying they were a dedicated Malaysian restaurant, they wouldn't get the people in who were looking for chinese food. Who knows. They have lots of lovely food here, that you wouldn't find in a typical chinese restaurant (because it is Malaysian food), like Nasi Lemak, Curry Mee and desserts like Bubur Cha Cha and Red Bean soup. If you aren't already familiar with Malaysian cuisine, those names won't mean much to you, but if you are, you will know they are fantastically tasty - and this place makes it well. They also serve bubble tea here (a hot or cold tea with tapioca pearls), which is the only place in Bristol that I know of that does it. I would highly recommend this place for those of you that haven't tried it out yet and are bored of typical chinese restaurant food. A real treat, two thumbs up.

When you're looking for a taste of the orient on Park Street there's only two places you should…read morethink of going; Beijing Bistro or HK Diner. For me, HK Diner has the edge. Not only are their portions more generous, but their food tastes more authentic too. As well as the vegetable dishes (which are mouth-wateringly chunky covered in soy sauce), the noodles are the best thing on the menu. It's not the best place to take a date, but is the ideal meeting point for friends and family. The service is warm and welcoming, and a night in HK Diner is not a wasted one.

Flavalanche? More like flavafail…read more I was highly anticipating taking my American friends to what I thought would be a high point of their visit to Bristol - a truly wonderful city in the main. However, my expectations were immediately lowered when I observed the far from endearing exterior of the shop. I thought the situation could have been rectified by the novelty of the product inside, however, this was far from the case due to just 2 from 4 machines having any fro-yo in them. Nonetheless, my disenchantment only increased when I found out that 2 of the 4 remaining fro-yo flavors were melted - how did this place pass a food inspection?! One of the two flavors was coffee, so if you aren't a coffee-lover like me, you were only left with the one - original. Now, onto the toppings. The choices were limited and I was not impressed by the lack of fresh fruit. The interior decor of the shop made it uninviting. It was dark and dingy and the worker was not there to greet us as we walked in. I would have hoped for more hospitality. The worker sat on her phone while we attempted to serve our runny, melted yogurt and did not offer to help or even apologize for the ruined product. Just like an avalanche, this was an utter disaster.

From the owner: Flavalanche offers some of the UK's best frozen yogurt, bubble tea and smoothies…read more Our frozen yogurt has it all -calcium, protein, and live active cultures that are good for your body. And unlike other desserts containing artificial ingredients or excessive calories and carbs from fat and sugar, Flavalanche frozen yogurt is all-natural and gluten-free. All our flavas are low fat or fat free, and some are sweetened with Stevia, which means they're low sugar too. We have 8 flavours on at any one time, customers grab a tub, pour as much yogurt as they like and then load up with toppings from our 40+ selection. We also make a huge selection of bubble tea, with a green tea or black assam tea base, our teas are rich in antioxidants and infused with natural fruit flavourings. Poured over tapioca pearls, pobbles or fruit jelly, these delicious and refreshing drinks are gulpable through an extra fat straw! Welcome to Flavalanche - An avalanche of flavour, choice and wellbeing.

I came here today after doing some Christmas shopping really looking forward to some bubble tea but…read moreunfortunately I was pretty disappointed this time. If this was my first and only time visiting, I would probably give 2 stars. However, because I know they've been great in the past I know they can improve from this. ~ Drinks: The drinks were still fine. I decided to break from my usual flavours and because it was Christmas, I went for a Gingerbread Milk Tea sans pearls, and it was very nice. ~ Customer Service: The main downside here. Everyone was really friendly, but had no organisation or management skills. Not only did the cashier get my partner's drink order wrong, but the drinks came really slowly. For just a few drinks, it literally took 10 minutes, and that's not counting the wait for someone to come to the register and take our order. Upon closer inspection, it was 1 guy doing everything from making the drinks to dealing with the huge queue of customers. The other 2 employees there were busy chatting and organising / cleaning the station. Okay yeah I recognise that things need to be washed and cleaned, but when there's a LOAD of customers waiting for orders to be taken shouldn't the list of priorities change? My entire family runs on hospitality and normally the list of tasks changes depending on the situation. If there's a long queue of customers both at the register and waiting for their drinks, washing spoons isn't a f*cking priority, is it? --- Sorry for the angry rant but I'm really hoping this is an isolated incident so I can give Bubble Base their 4th star back. I had a look at the other customers waiting and we were all visibly annoyed; employees didn't really seem to care.
