The menu included both meat and vegetarian options. The griot (pork), which I didn't have, was a huge hit. I personally enjoyed the lambi (conch) and rice with stewed veggies. There were also stuffed plantain cups and various fritters, which were passed around. The evening ended with a bread pudding infused with liquor (cremas). It was an excellent spread and Nadege was able to provide a sampling for us to try a few weeks prior to the event on short notice. She also printed these helpful signs for the guests to know what they were trying. This was particularly important since we wanted to highlight Haitian culture at the event. Overall, her staff was great and the food was excellent. I would definitely like to try her restaurant, Bonnan, in Brooklyn when I have a chance.

We had ultimately signed up for it based on the reviews that we were seeing on Yelp, which is why I felt that I should post my own. Perhaps I set too high expectations for the class, and am partially to blame, but I was quite disappointed. Don't get me wrong- I had fun, but I probably would not have done it if I had known more about what I was getting myself into. Here are the things that I wish someone would have told me: 1) It takes an hour and a half from the UES to get here- the class is pretty far into Brooklyn The class is 4 hours. That is a total of 7 hours of your day. That is a bigger part of my weekend than I realized I was committing to when I first signed up. 2) The class is literally in a house. At first, my boyfriend and I thought we had the wrong place. 3) You do not have your own cooking station. You are chopping things up at a large table with about 20 other people. Then the instructor puts everything on the stove and cooks it. For me, getting the food cooked is the hardest part. I know how to cut fruits and vegetables. 4) The recipes are not that sophisticated. We cooked Uncle Ben's rice. Yes, we opened a box of rice and put it into a pot. To make it "homemade" we added cranberries. I should say though that I loved the instructor. She was very funny and knew what she was doing. Again, I did have a good time....but because I would never do it again, I am only giving it a 2 star rating.

A combination of land and sea--Filet Mignon with Arugula and Horseradish Goat Cheese (amazing!), Outer Banks Crab Cakes with mustard caper sauce, and Crisp Coconut Shrimp with chili lime sauce (mouth watering as I recall them). As a vegetarian option, the Brie & Roasted Shallot Tart with caramelized fig chutney went so well with the red wine I was drinking. Other good gnoshing with their Classic Antipasto platter and a couple of platters of Shrimp Cocktail. For the main course, we had Tuscan Chicken with artichokes, and sage in a lemon butter sauce, along with a Penne Pasta with Prosciutto, grana and peas in a light tomato cream sauce, and huge platter of grilled vegetables. They cut up the chicken small enough so that you didn't need a knife, making it easier to eat in a cocktail setting. The entrees hit the spot and weren't too heavy after all the appetizers. Since I had already hired someone for the night to work the party, I opted for them to drop-off the food. They wheel it in in these giant containers that keeps everything the right temperature until you need it. They gave us instructions on how to heat and serve everything. Nothing was dry or soggy.
