Jon addressed all of our concerns and handled the issues in a very timely and professional manner.

First off, I support local and small businesses whenever possible, but I have to WARN everybody about a local business who responded very poorly to an issue his business created. We had a tree in our front yard that we wanted to remove so we could replace it with a different one. Our neighbors told us of a local tree company who was coming into the neighborhood to remove some of her trees and thought since they were in the neighborhood that it would be easy to have them do work for us as well. We figured since the company was licensed, bonded and insured it was a good company and asked for him to remove our tree. The business, Jon's Tree Service here in Pelham, contacted me and we set a date and price to have it removed. The work was done and we paid for the removal. Fast forward to today. I turned on my sprinkler system and found a pipe had been severed from where the tree was removed. I was not worried, as I knew he was licensed, insured and bonded. Boy was I wrong! I contacted Jon, the owner, and explained the situation and sent him a pic. His response shocked me. He said... 'At $400 for the tree I can't handle the sprinkler line, it's just a risk that happens when removing a tree with roots everywhere' 'There's nothing I can do about lines that are not more than 2 inches deep' 'At the 850 minimum, I would be there tomorrow to fix the line' 'PVC is a easy five minute fix' I was dumbfounded! I told him I had recently had back and shoulder surgery and was not able to fix the system and would now need to hire somebody to fix an issue he created. He begrudgingly said he would come on Saturday and do the 5-minute fix, which I declined given his dismissive attitude. He continued to make excuses wnd made more shocking statements... 'No need to be an ass, I told u I would handle it, it's literally a 5 min repair' 'U got a tree basically for free amd then expect me to fix a sprinkler line for free Not my fault your builder didn't do anything correctly and put the tree too shallow and u end up with roots over the entire yard and then the sprinklers Are put too shallow, none of that is my fault, I only tried to rectify the problem by removing the tree amd roots' 'Get your builder to fix the line, it's his fault it got hit' I ended our conversation telling him his FIRST response should have been that he would fix the issue, knowing it was a quick 5-minute fix and NOT that it wasn't worth his time to fix. Yes, I paid $400 to have a tree removed instead of his $850 minimum (saved $$ due to him already being in the neighborhood). My takeaway from this experience is two fold...1) even if a company advertises they are licensed, bonded and insured that may only apply to what the company deems worth their time and 2) if you EVER deal with or hire Jon's Tree Service in Pelham...buyer beware and set your expectations very low! read more

Never used them for tree services, but one of their trucks came around a corner and lost a load of crane pads in my driveway. Each weighs over 100 pounds and I had been mowing or getting the mail, I'd still be in the hospital. Luckily the only casualty was my mailbox. The driver gave me a card and said they would cover it. After a couple of weeks, I called and talk to a scheduler who said she would get with the owner and get him to take care of it. Six calls and 2 months later I haven't heard a word from the owner. I'm glad I didn't use them and have a tree fall on my house. They don't seem to be willing to cover damages caused by their employees. read more

It is important to note that we did not receive a service by or from Jon's company. We did however have our front yard trenched by them. we have called, repeatedly to communicate our frustrations, but the owner of the company will not call us back, in fact, his receptionist confirmed that he is choosing not to speak to us. The incident occurred while his company was working in the yard across from ours. When I arrived home that evening, their truck and a tree log was in my driveway preventing me from pulling in. upon arrival I also noticed a giant trench in my yard that they claim was made by the school bus. While there is no proof that it was in fact the school bus, even if it was, his company was illegally blocking the road entering and exiting my neighborhood. I will attach plenty of images. My husband and I have tried for two weeks to handle this with them, but again, he refuses to speak with us. We have been advised to involve an attorney and are considering doing so and highly suggest that no one do business with this man or his company. truly the WORST service experience. On Dec 16, I received a quote. On Dec 21 at 1:00 pm the large pine tree was being cut down. By 3:30 pm, the tree was in pieces being hauled away. The stump was ground down, the area was leveled and smoothed out. The debris was gone and the yard was blown. The crew worked as a well oiled machine and each member worked diligently. I will recommend Jon's Tree Service to anyone and everyone who has a need for skilled tree fellers who know their trade and have the fortitude to get the task completed safely and effectively. read more

I changed my review. I can't get anyone to come and do a quote. Had an appointment at 4:30 last night. They called and told me they would be at my place between 10 and 11 today. I sent a text at 10:53 asking are they going to my place and they said they would in 45 minutes to an hour. At 12:32 still no call. read more

After a friend used Jon's, he was the first one I reached out to when I noticed a tree in our backyard was dead. He came out the next day, looked quickly, and gave me a quote. As it turns out, my gate was not wide enough for equipment to get back there and would cost me an extra $300 to get it hauled away by hand. He gave me the name of a fencing company that he likes and I remember him saying they are like him, "not the cheapest and not trying to be. But they do good work". I talked to other people and found out the price was in the right ballpark, but did fall on the higher side. So I decided to ask around for some other pricing. Well after some no call backs or scheduling for a quote, I had one company come out and gave a little better pricing. Very similarly, this company said the gate was not wide enough and it would be 3 weeks till they could come out. So I told him, go ahead and write me down for 3 weeks away and I will take care of the gate. I won't go into any more detail since it will be in another review. But long story, slightly longer, I did not get scheduled and when I finally talked to someone, it was going to be 2.5 months!! Note that I had a dead tree in the yard during the stormiest summer we have had in decades. So I called Jon back and he was absolutely amazing. He had to look at Google maps to remember the job and said as soon as that gate is widened he would come out ASAP since it was a dead tree. With some family help, I ended up getting it done, called him that day, and he said he would be out the next week. Since it was a do-it-yourself job with the gate, it was a much easier project to widen it a little rather than a full car's width. He was willing to work with me and use his smaller machine for the same price. He was amazingly fast at responding and extremely helpful. Fast forward to today. His crew came out early and was ready to go. They were not only very friendly, but also very independent. They did their work without having to bother us until it was close to time to leave. They asked if everything looked good (which it did) and if I needed anything else. The cleaned up everything that came from that tree and probably more. They blew off the driveway and made sure everything was left as they found it. And I remembered Jon's words "he may not be the cheapest, but he does good work". No truer words have been said. I've used Jon's Tree Service twice. Once last year when I just asked him to drop three trees (no cutting up or hauling away) to help my satellite dish reception and to trim some trees that were over my roof. They did exactly that for a very reasonable price. This week I had them back out to cut down three trees - a tall pine that had been hit by lightning and had died just on the other side of my driveway from the house and two large oaks that were in front of two of my sheds. My SO and I have dropped quite a few trees ourselves but no way would we have tried these three. Too big and too close to house/sheds/fences, etc. When I got home from work, everything was cleaned up and gone. They had dropped and hauled away those three very large trees and had even blown off all the leaves and pine needles from my driveway. Except for the cleaned off driveway, there was barely a sign they had been there. I'd definitely recommend them (and have) to anyone in the area for tree work.
