My wife has been cutting my young son's hair, but we both wanted someone to clean up the lines and make him look sharp. We made a last minute decision last night to book an appointment with the "first available", and that turned out to be Taras. Taras is legit. He asked a number of questions to get a feel for what we were looking for, and the cut turned out *perfect*. What I feel is more important though, is that he didn't ignore my son. He chatted a bit with me, but more with my son, and that made my son feel very comfortable. They chatted about some mutual hobbies they have, and it made my day to see my son light up because he wasn't just the next kid in line to get a cut. Will we be back? I walked in one day about a dozen haircuts ago and James squeezed me in. That day my hair had restored confidence and bravado and I keep going back ever since. Seriously with all these damn hair cowlicks and this odd shaped head my hair had been in a funk and depressed when we moved up here. And then that day I found James. First James is the guy you should go to, super cool, great conversation and he remembers you and your hair. Second this is the place even if James is not available. They have guys with a variety of talents and all of them appear to do great work. If you have something extravagant in mind (Tupac holding JFK, whatever), these dudes can put it on your head. I got my hair and beard cut by Aaron PaloAlto today. He really did a phenomenal job. Aaron took his time, and checked to make sure I was happy along the way. Aaron made recommendations about the details of the cut that really took things to the next level. I appreciate the attention to detail and craftsmanship. Aaron is a master of his craft. Also worth mentioning is that his station was very clean. I also want to point out that while getting my haircut I observed an act of kindness that I'd like to mention. From my barber chair looking out the windows, I saw a young lady from another business taking out the trash. She was a tiny woman and was struggling to lug two giant bags. A barber from the shop, Johnathon, also noticed this and raced outside to take the heavy bags off her hands. He walked them to the dumpster with her and it was obvious she was relieved. It really made my heart smile to witness such an act of simple kindness. read more

Moved to the state earlier this year and needed a barber for my 7yr old son. Found this shop on yelp. Hands down, the best experience in a barbershop my son and I have ever had. I've taken my son to JL 3xs now. 1st visit with Nick. 2nd with Eric. 3rd with John. All 3 did an excellent job. They consulted with me 1st on the cut I wanted for him, and did exactly what I asked. I always book online and never have had to wait beyond my scheduled time. The shop is clean, comfortable and a good environment for all since these guys don't hold inappropriate conversations when kiddos are around. While I have taken myself and my two sons to John Laurenz for several years, one recent experience sadly has me looking elsewhere. For starters my son took time off of work after we booked a session with Josh. This appointment was cancelled at the last minute by Josh, with no effort to rebook with another stylist. This was the second time this happened. My son has been growing his hair out for several years, and for his upcoming senior pictures, wanted to get it cut shorter. When he was able to get a follow up appointment with Tommy, he pointed to his ear level and asked to have his shoulder length hair cut to this level. The end result was his hair on top of his head is now barely 2 to 3 inches long. Far shorter than the approximately 6 to 7 inches of length indicated by the ear level. My son is livid and the stylist only had this to say "sometimes kids don't communicate well". It seems that perhaps he should have been very clear on where he was cutting to BEFORE actually starting the cut. My son didn't know how short was short until he was spun around. Was this a simple miscommunication? Possibly, but when my 12 year old was recently in for a cut with the same barber, his hair was also cut too short. I now know that there is really no accountability at this barber. The stylists lease the space and are effectively their own bosses. Do NOT rely on your appointment time either. 4 out of 5 times I have waited 20 to 30 minutes before myself or my son was in the chair. I'd say do better John Laurenz, but based off how they are run, doesn't seem like it will do any good. read more

Went here for my first time today. These guys are great. I was skeptical at first since there went really any reviews but I decided to go for it anyways. I called and was immediately scheduled for an appointment with Jacob. While there I also met the third barber and the owner Eric. Everyone was very friendly and easy to talk to. They actually tried to get to know me. We talked sports, work and just about everything else. I was initially unsure how I wanted my hair, I told Jacob how I usually do my hair and asked for his opinions and he went for it. The prices here are great so no complaints there. If you are a guy looking for a good cut at a good price this is the place to go. read more

So I have 3 little boys and I always make appointments online which they recommend. 3 times now with different barbers I've shown up and the barber not be there or him say he can't cut my son's hair. It takes a lot of planning and time to make it to our appointment juggling 3 boys and both working. I get the confirmations and assume the appointment is legit. Also when I have actually had my son's hair cut I always have to wait forever and I have not had a barber be on time. I'm ok with 10 minute wait but when it's 20-30 it's a long time with little kids. Also not a courtesy message that they're running behind. If you have little ones I would choose a different barbershop. read more

My husband is pretty meticulous of his haircuts and barber shop, and we finally found a place that's just as fresh as Cali's cut. Erik is the go- to guy. Takes his time doing it, make sure it looks fresh and crisp. He asked me if I approve his cuts, and I sure did! My husband always looking handsome :) Thanks Erik! Originally i gave this barbershop one star because the dude Aaron who cut my hair messed up my hair. He didn't know how to fade and do a hard part. Also they charge extras to do line ups... which I don't mind to paying... but he messed that one up also. I came back the second time and the owner of the barbershop cut my hair. My stylist seemed pleasant, ok at his job and it is clean there. But I didn't expect to have an incredibly loud fundamentalist christian podcast and music blasted at me on cheap speakers. We're talking volumes where communication with the stylist was reduced to hand signals. If that is your thing, fine, but make it clear on the website that customers will also be preached to. Some of us are only looking for a haircut, maybe a nice chat with the stylist. Not sunday school. Won't be back. read more

If you want an defined identity cut that raises your personal style to a new level then go to JL. It's true that styles change but Style doesn't ! Chris Cruz and all of the stylists are artists who sculpt and craft sharp contemporary styles which are undeniably artistic and fashionable. As I've gotten older, I have less hair to cut and barbers have taken a lot less time to cut my hair ( but charge me the same). They ask me what # cut I want, they don't make suggestions or invest the time necessary to craft a style unique to me, my age and my profile. At JL I watch the other style-artist as they connect, engage and style the hair of other clients and I'm like "Damn that style looks great on that guy. I never knew what I was missing until I went to JL and now I won't go anywhere else. I don't want just a general cut, I want something as unique to me as the other things I buy in life, like cars, clothes, shoes etc.and which richly defines my style and leaves people asking, Who is that guy? I think he's an athlete or some upscale exec. If you want a generic cut, go someplace else but if you want fashion, art and style go to JL. read more

Been here once before and had a great experience. Went back for a second cut and had a not so great experience. Made a 10:20 appointment, followed by a chiropractor appointment. Showed up at 10:18 and the barber that cuts my hair has someone in his chair. At first I thought he was just finishing up a cut, then I realize he's just beginning the cut. Ok, maybe it'll be a quickie i thought. 30 minutes later I walked out so I could make my next appointment. The barber called and told me he'd cut my hair for free if I came back, but I couldn't due to another appointment. I can see running 5-10 minutes behind, but 30 minutes?....for a $30 hair cut w/o the tip? No thanks. Looking for a new barber. read more

I cannot rave enough about Nick!!!! He was SOOOO patient giving our son brushes and things to keep him occupied while he cut his hair! And it came out so good! So patient, attentive, and really wants to make his client happy. I'm a pain when it comes to my beard. Super particular... Just got back from JL for a cut in a new place. I let Chris "the apprentice" Cruz cut my hair. He did great and was very meticulous! I have always let the big chain hair places cut my hair in the past...now i will only go here. He said he gave my hairy ears a makeover and my wife said "whoa! I got a haircut from Matthew couple months ago and I'm now just reviewing it. It was a walk in appointment, amazing service. I've lived around LA, Seattle, and Denver. I've paid $65 for a haircut once and to this day, Matthew has given me the best haircut I've ever had. When haircut was done, I was at the cash register paying for the haircut and Matthew suggested an improved haircut suggestion, and also offered to trim my eyebrows even after I paid for haircut, I thought that was very thoughtful and true display of excellent customer service. read more
