I paid more than expected but that's now long forgotten and they are more than worth it anyway. At least as important as vanity the prescription is the best I've ever had and the consultation itself was informative - I actually have a good insight (excuse the pun) in to what's going on with my eyes. I enjoyed good friendly conversation with the staff and I'm modest enough to admit she chose my frames not me!

I dropped by because of reviews on Yelp, wasn't going to buy anything necessarily but came out with a really nice pair of Oliver Peoples/ Garrett Leight sunglasses. They were no means cheap but they fitted them just perfectly. Unfortunately I lost them in Austin Texas and didn't know whether I'd be able to get another pair. They ordered them back in and gave me a discount on the original price for me since I was basically buying them twice. I also ordered a pair of lenses for my old Ray Bans, they're so helpful and quick to respond to emails. Very chatty, know about your face shape and what suits, but don't do the hard sell. If you're looking for cheap then go to your average high street store but if you've saved a few bob it's a good investment.

Up until my relatively recent move to Manchester, I only ever went to the same optician that I have…read morevisited since I was a child. Basically, I didn't trust anyone else to give me the same quality of customer care (or, having said that, the right prescription). As I have an awkward face for glasses, with a stupidly narrow nose, I typically find that nothing really fits very well, and so my old optician used to order in vast arrays of spectacles for me to try on, then spent ages trying to find the right pair. I never thought I'd find another optician that would offer such great service. In the main, I was right. I tried Specsavers, Vision Express, D & A, etc etc etc, and generally came across disinterested salespeople who had no interest or idea of what they were doing. That all changed one morning when I went to Didsbury Eyecare, a place I had been wary of because it looked a bit too trendy and expensive. But I was so so wrong. The sales assistant was extremely helpful and pointed my towards several styles that would suit. He then told me that they would have more stock arriving during the next week, and advised me to wait in case some of those were more suitable. There was no pressure to buy, just encouragement to choose the right glasses to suit. When I did find a pair I liked, I was pleased to find that they were not too expensive after all (£300 for frames and the thinnest lenses they could order - my eyes are awful so the lenses are always costly). All in all, I was very pleased with my experience here. The choice of glasses was exceptional, the customer care was extremely good, and I went away feeling very satisfied. In fact, if I had more money to spend on glasses, I'd go back to get another pair.

Firstly, we obviously went through all the comical and inappropriate glasses he could wear and that made him look ridiculous. You know how some glasses work for some people and on others people just make them look silly? Well, loads of those. And then once we'd finally chosen some that looked half-decent the whole myriad of options of lens thickness came into play. Seriously, if you've got bad eyes, need strong glasses but don't want them to be Dexter thick then you need to pay hundreds and hundreds of pounds to get thin lenses. Buying glasses is a seriously costly business. Bad times indeed. The assistants in D&A were very helpful if a bit out of touch with what would actually look good on my mate. The man we spoke to had great things to say about face size and proportion and lines and stuff which was great, but then totally undermined himself by suggesting some awful glasses that were totally inappropriate for my friend and made him look twenty years older than he was. And then he had to choose whether to get a free second pair, or get over a hundred quid off the price by moving his contacts prescription to D&A which would be more than he already paid at his other opticians but did he want the discount? At this point I reached the end of my tether boredom wise and went and got a cup of tea. Glasses equals mega stress!

The optician was not aware of the anxiety that I was experiencing. She was patient, kind and spoke very clearly. Her direction was structured, informative and she delivered her direction with respectful tones to her voice and to the way she presented her direction. I very soon felt at ease, at the end of the examination, I was relaxed and felt listened to. I gave myself permission to ask the questions that I had been worried about. My main concern was that I was beginning to go blind. The optician explained to me in detail, the function of my eye muscles and reassured me I was not going blind. I then was able to ask more questions. The optician recognised the importance to my questions and facilitated my enquiries further by, showing my some contact lenses and once again explained to me how they work and the recommend amount of time one should wear the lenses for . It was the first time my life that i had ever seen such dainty little things, she explained in detail their functionality, once again my fears of contact lenses had gone, so much so, that I have now booked an appointment to try them out next week, as well as having prescription lens glasses. On reflection, I have one regret.... It was remiss of me to ask the Optician for her name. I would have preferred to thank her in person. So, I'm hoping if you are reading this review, I want you to know that I appreciate everything you did for me today. I was already upset and nervous before I came into the store, as I had booked what I thought, was an appointment with optical express, but to my horror, I had booked Vison Express. I quickly phoned my Daughter wop encouraged me to come inside the store. I'm so glad I did. Thank you so much. I shall be telling all my friends to come to the store and ask for the delightful intelligent well-mannered optician. I feel so much lighter in myself because I now know I'm not going blind. Thank you. Kind Regards.. Pina Brown.

The store has been refurbished within the past year or two, meeting the new Vision Express branding, the new logo and interior of the store look much more sleek and modern overall. One thing I like about this store, is they have a fantastic selection of designer frames, including brands such as Gucci, Tom Ford, Hugo Boss and Burberry, without locking them down behind a key, this makes the in-store experience much simpler and interactive, as you can try on glasses in your own time, without having a staff member standing over you and chatting, it's much more relaxing, independent and peaceful - This is a huge advantage over my local Vision Express at Manchester Arndale, which seems to lock them all away. My biggest criticism with the selection of eyewear overall would be the need to move towards frames, that have thick temple tips, I'm not sure if this is the way fashion is going, but I find them to be really uncomfortable, and the selection with the thinner rims is much less. The staff here seemed friendly and knowledgeable, and I also appreciate Vision Express' return policy, I was originally unhappy with the discomfort of my original glasses, caused by the thick temple tips and weight, and I was able to swap my glasses over, paying just the difference in the cost of the frame, no questions asked. The prices for designer frames are also competitive compared to high-street rivals, I actually found them cheaper compared to Boots nearby, and buying direct with some manufacturers such as Oakley (The cost of buying lenses directly from Oakley is insane!) 4* - Overall, this Vision Express selection has good service, competitive pricing and a good returns policy, a few minor flaws, but they've helped won my custom over, and I hope it will continue.
