You can tell by the structure, that it's been around for a while! The inside is beautiful, modern, colorful and so inviting. There are beautiful murals across the walls. There were kids playing in the children's area. They have these round domes, you can curl up and read inside of. I wish I got a picture. The library is very clean, organized and with the friendliest librarian. Their quiet area is away from the noisy children's area. They had some books available for free outside. This is such a beautiful library in the lovely small town of Essex, CT.

A beautiful building in…read more a beautiful borough The Stonington Free Library is located in a lovely building that was built way back in 1900. This was in the time before most towns were broke and when they still had money to spend on making libraries more than just warehouses to store books. The building would be a cool place to visit even if it didn't have any books at all. The site selected was where the famous Wadawanuck Hotel stood a few years before. This was when Stonington was still a hopping transportation center with a multitude of steam ships and trains stopping here between Boston and New York. Before things changed and Stonington became a the quiet little borough it presently is. The library is relatively small by the standards of larger towns but has been expanded several times over the decades but still managed to keep it's charm and unique character. It was built to be more than just a place to store books and that idea has never changed throughout the years. Sure the library has books, a whole bunch of books. plus the usual periodicals, computers, videos, Cd's and other mundane library stuff. The library also has a nice children's department and has various lectures, events and demonstrations. Of course the friendly and smiling small town librarians are present to assist and eager to help with any question or difficulty. But the magic of this library isn't in the books but the wonderful building located in a wonderful and historical town literally surrounded by water. A great place to read, do research or just walk around, look, smell the ocean, and wonder what this town was like a hundred years ago when the library was built.

He came into the room and basically yelled out you can only be in this room if you are a teen or have a child with you. There were like 5 other people in the room. Yes they had kids. He knew we did not have kids or we obviously were not teens. He basically called us out. He could've politely asked us to move somewhere else. He was rude about it. But like I said there was no other place to sit. I will never be going back there again as long as he is working there. Get people to work there who are not so rude.

A good book is the…read more best of friends The Brooklyn Town Library is a strange place, but then most of the libraries around here are pretty strange. That's probably because most of the buildings that the libraries now occupy were originally built for something else. The building that the Brooklyn Library is now in was built as a bank way back in 1821 and it still looks kind of banky. Huge walls, small rooms and not really much open space. The building received an addition a few years after it was built but still looks a lot bigger on the outside than it appears once inside. The building was bought and donated to the Library Association in 1913 and has served as the town library ever since. The library does have a unique charm to it due to the banking ancestry but it does make getting around the library difficult. Small hallways, very crowded areas and strangely shaped and very cluttered rooms makes navigating around a bit of a challenge. Of course this is pretty cool if you are just looking around but makes doing any real work a bit of a bother. It seems this library has a lot more stuff than room to put the stuff. Everyone I met here was extremely nice, very friendly, talkative and accommodating in the typical small town way and the library offers some very cool programs and events. The library itself has a decent collection of books, magazines and the usual library items but finding a comfy spot to sit and read might be hard. Definitely not your ordinary type of library, this place has be serving the town for decades and will probably continue to do so for a long time. It still has that massive banky and secure feel to it. It's a cool place to look around, get information, find a book, or do some local research. It's not the place to spread out and occupy space, you might end up in a swarthy corner or tenebrous hallway with a ghost sitting next to you.

The parking lot is a good size, and you can access the building on the main floor through the front door, or on the side door and take the stairs or elevator to where you need to go. Great elevator, it barely felt like it was moving and was fast. The librarians were very friendly, even the adult section had some Halloween decor (which is so much fun!) and overall a very friendly vibe.

There is an impressive ongoing book sale collection in between stacks with lots of hardcovers plus some other book nooks too including one in the lobby for free books as well. In the children's room, check out that artificial dinosaur which is pretty neat. Library staff are all nice people here. There are wonderful events going on here throughout the year. As an added bonus, there is a garden or two outside the front of the library building. Come in during the spring for blooming flowers and more. It is such a beautiful library in the heart of the community that is just nearby downtown center of Killingly-Danielson.

A very pleasant environment to read or attend lectures or programs even if the library doesn't have any real historical charm to it. The building is much larger than it looks on the outside and has several different rooms including cool little places for kids and teens and a great local history and genealogy section. Lots of places to sit and just relax in a very comfy setting. Everyone in the library is friendly and Killingly is one of those libraries that always seems to have programs , lectures and displays. A nice community room is available to everyone and a book sale is going on continuously to help raise money to maintain the library. Lots to do even if you don't want a specific book. Killingly is a pleasant town with lots of gardens that also has a very nice library. I don't think that Marcus Cicero was thinking of Killingly when two thousand years ago he said "When you have a garden and a library you have everything", but if he ever saw Killingly he just might have thought it.

They have a lot of Board Games to choose from as well. There's Media Room exclusive for a lot of movies they have on DVD and Blu-Ray. There's nice people working at the library as well. However... The library is not suitable for expansion but unfortunately the library is really overgrown and have barely any more space for most books to shelve. Bookshelves are cramped as well resulting in so many books withdrawn yearly (there is a basement for more storage of books but unfortunately not enough space for more books as well.). The good news is voters approved the deal that would move the library to a brand new building where Webster Bank currently is down the street (the Webster Bank will be relocated to another property and its building will be demolished for new library construction). The Cheney Library building will still be there once the library moves out of that building once the new library building is complete within the next few years or so.

This is a review for the board game section of the library sporting so many games I've lost count…read more The borad game section has a lot of different types of games with varying age, group size and time frame. Donated from different walks of life the library does well to ensure eveything is there for your fun time ahead. You can borrow the games up to 3 weeks and they even added in renewals which is a nice feature. The only thing is that the games have to be returned while the library is open and sadly here is the only place that carry an extensive selection but hope that others hop on. Do you part and support the local library and try a free new game before purchasing or having a great time. With so many games for so many different type of people and groups drop by and see what they have.
