For the longest time, I had my natural black hair; I was ready to take a slight risk to highlight my hair. I was appointed to JP (Jean Phillipe). When I arrived at the institution, I was welcome with warmth. Special love goes to Claire. Such a sweetheart; she is beautiful. Took care of me with drinks (great Cappuccino)and by conversing like we have been friends forever. JP is a hair colorist; he was very understanding about my fear to change my natural hair color. He put me on ease; tried bunch of samples on my hair. It gets confusing, but he was super helpful. Trust me he did a fantastic job. Check out is Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/le.mec.du.balayage I just love that dude. First time, JP gave me a caramel blond highlights over my black hair. Second time, I had ombré highlights of caramel blond again. Both times, I loved it, and can't wait for his next creation. For hair cut and style, initially I was Akiko, (who was the sweetest person and a great stylist) but she left to pursue her career somewhere else. My last two hair cut and style were done by Ly! He is a Superman for the hair. He can talk and feel the hair. He can work any texture of hair. And you ask how I know.... well he took care of three sisters's hair, and we all the girls have different type of hair, from frizzy, fine and wavy. He never goes drastic with me; he knows with my features what style would suit. He is an absolute creature. Beside JP, I love Ly too. Beside my sisters, few of my friends go to JP and Ly. The combination of both is lethal.

I can't believe I didn't review these guys yet! What a fabulous, complete experience this was! I…read moregot a fresh cut, dye job, style and manicure! It was my first time ever getting to enjoy a manicure spiff up while the dye was setting in my hair - so I ended up with both black hair and chic black nails. It was such an enjoyable glow up! My stylist was super sweet and gave me EXACTLY the hair colour and cut I wanted, which is, as many will know, not an easy thing to always achieve when you go to a new stylist. He listened carefully to everything I explained that I was looking for, and went out of his way to ensure that I got it! I even left with my specific dye recipe (which is kind of like a half-black, half dark brown mix) on a slip of paper, since he understood that I travel a lot and it would just make it so much easier to hand the recipe to my next stylist! I was so appreciative of that, because it's often hard to get a stylist to understand the kind of colour I'm looking for (surprisingly enough). Cut out the reddish, tone it down to a cool, deep, darkest brown bordering on black but not as unnatural looking as black. He nailed it. The next time I'm back in Montreal, this is where I will take myself immediately. The nail salon is next door, but they have a door between the hair salon and nail salon, so that your stylist can simply walk you through, with your towel on your head, sit you in a chair, and the manicurist knows exactly how much time there is to get your nails done before you have to go back over for your rinse. It's such a great working relationship. I was so happy with the manicure that I went back again for a redo a week and a half later! Fair warning, though - this salon IS in Westmount, the moneyed part of Montreal, so you will pay through the nose for your perfect salon experience. For me, it was worth it. A girl's gotta treat herself once in a while, and since I only typically hit a salon once every six months, I could justify it! Ha!

I had been relaxing it for a long time so I was in the dark when it came to how I was supposed to care for my hair. Instead of running to the naturalistas on YouTube, I decided to get in touch with someone more local. I am incredibly lucky to have had Victoria of Beauté VMV educate me on how to take care of my natural hair. You couldn't find someone more professional, informed, and kind for my natural hair journey. I have had to switch up products as my hair grew and we realized the complexity of my hair (it's a combination multiple hair types and is incredibly thick). Victoria guided me through the process and we've found a hair care ritual that really works for me. It's always a little scary to drastically change up looks so I'm glad to have her as my hair consultant. She and the other owners/team at the salon are incredibly patient, skilled, and non-judgmental. they have a variety of skills so if you need braids, twists, extensions, wigs, locs, or the old wash & go then they got you covered. This place is my hair temple and I know that I'm literally in good hands with them.

The hairdresser showed me pictures of layered styles and initially tried to change my mind, but I just wanted a straight cut. She said she could manage it. I was very tired that day and closed my eyes while she cut my hair. When she was finished, she said to me, "I've cut a few layers in," even though that was exactly what I didn't want. I don't feel comfortable with my current haircut because it's not what I'd agreed with her beforehand, which is why I'm only giving it one star.
