Not a pleasant experience at all. I've had this doctor listed as my primary care physician on my insurance card for over two years. I called the office today to schedule my annual physical check-up, and the doctor himself answered the phone. He ran my insurance information through the system, and after verifying all the necessary details, he informed me that he is no longer accepting new patients. The doctor is good, but the administrative staff is terrible. I made a lot of calls just to make appointments, and then I needed to be referred after seeing the doctor. I waited for more than a month without notice, so I called again to find out that the referral requires me to check the information online to check the status, and then see that the status is approved, but I need to make an appointment by myself, and the referral clinic is 50 miles away from my home. I have been seeing Dr. Ou for 10+ years and I could not be more pleased with his service or assistance to me as a patient. He is wise beyond his years. I like to understand the medical issues and I tend to ask a lot of questions to which he takes his time, in a very busy office, to always answer and address. Dr. Ou gets 5 stars, without a doubt. I was hesitant to start with a new doctor but he is really great, attentive and easy to talk to. I've had Anthem Blue Cross many times (HMO) and have NEVER had to deal with a referrals taking 2 weeks. It's not even 2 weeks with my insurance. It's 2 weeks to process in this office. I called my insurance yesterday and they don't even have any notification about referrals (it's been a week). Good thing it's not something serious and just a soccer injury because waiting 2 weeks for it to process in the office is a joke. Might as well go to the ER and pay the co-pay and have an MRI done yesterday. Great doctor, but if you have an HMO you're screwed. read more

This Dr is not as good as the description in all those five-star reviews. Maybe they are his friends or relatives. He will not call you to discuss all blood test results or any exam result with you. You need to be smart enough to read and understand all the exam result by yourself. Dr's office had received my lab result for more than 1 week, but the staff said that Dr Ou hadn't yet read the lab result. Finally I myself found out my lab result was something abnormal. He don't care about you. Don't go to visit this MD. He is not professional and will delay your treatment. read more

Dr Ou is my fave doctor actually and ive moved around some and have gone thru quite a few doctors. He and his wife are so nice and smart! As a PCP, Dr Ou asks all the right questions and does commonsense treatment plans or sends you to further exams for any mystery pains. Staff is almost abrupt but friendly enough. lately, ive been asking for a referral and its been taking over a week. Now, in fairness, we did this over the phone and she was trying to prevent me from coming in physically just to ask for a routine physical test...but maybe they still needed me to follow up? it would be nice if i didnt have to. as far as i know, doc takes in both PPO and HMO and a variety of providers. i also love that i can communicate with him through his health portal (theres an app) and it also displays the results of your exams sometimes and summaries of your visit. I've made appointments using the app and asked him pertinent questions which he answered - unlike some docs who would probably be like, "oh i dont know, come down for an appt so i can check" Dr. Ou is very knowledgeble but he will never be annoyed when you offer information /treatment possibilities about a previous or recurring illness. He is COOL! Parking in front is limited but i've never had a problem getting a spot. read more

Great Physician. Why? because he listens. My whole family sees him (age 17 & up). The only downside is OUR insurance plan. But Dr. Ou looks at what can be done under every plan, which I really appreciate. Appointment times are usually always keep on time. Plus, I never feel rushed at his office either. Easy debit card co-pays. Plus his office staff has gone out of there way to get test results back us very quickly. Only way It could get better is if he was a Bruins fan. read more

First time coming here and I had a great experience from start to finish (not quite there yet). Came here with a knee injury to have it examined. The staff here are professional and courteous. Answered the phones promptly and answered all my insurance questions and it helped me feel like they cared (more than what most places can offer). The doctor himself is a pleasure. He makes the extra effort to make sure you understand what is going on with your ailment and he even drew me a diagram of my knee injury. He educates you which is a very positive part about my visit. The only con was actually finding the business itself. It is seperated from the H-Mart plaza by a gate and the door is unmarked but there is a giant letter sign above the suite. Just felt a bit weird opening a door all covered up with no markings haha. Dr. Ou is an excellent physician. He is knowledgeable, caring and takes time with his patients during every visit. He seems to have a real passion for medicine (and children!) and it shows through his willingness to first listen and understand, then diagnose and explain/answer our questions. He is capable and professional in his delivery of service. I recently misplaced a prescription medication and needed it urgently the next morning. I called his office the night before, not knowing what to expect. Lo and behold my prescription was ready at my local pharmacy at 8 AM the next morning. Despite short notice, Dr. Ou totally came through for us. We are really impressed. I noticed a couple negative reviews below complaining about trouble booking appointments and of course, the frustration is understandable. But a little bit of advice -- a doctor with a packed schedule probably means he is a good doctor and his services are in high demand. That's what happens when you're good at what you do. Show me a doctor who's not busy and I'll show you a mediocre doctor. read more

Both my parents see Dr. Ou and love him. The reason why I'm writing the review is because last month my mom was very ill and her regular PCP was closed and since my father had been seeing him, I suggested why not see if he can see squeeze her in. Dr. Ou's office was able to get my mom in to see him as a new and ill patient and he took very good care of her. He advised that if she continued to feel bad to go to ER and we ended up doing that. So once discharged we scheduled another follow-up appointment and again he was wonderful. Dr. Ou has the best bedside manner with dealing with patients. My mom has completely switched to having him as her PCP. His office is nice and easy to find. Dr. Ou is a young and very smart guy & is up to date with electronic health records and submits her prescriptions electronically. I have actually recommended him to other family members. I wish I could see him myself but I have Kaiser HMO, so I can't. read more

Dr. Ou is a seasoned and nurturing physician. I've visited him on multiple occasions for back pains and sporadic coughs. On every visit, he has been able to prescribe a solution to my health issues. Dr. Ou is an excellent physician. My wife and I have been patients of Dr Ou for nearly four years, and we chose him in part because of his age. As a younger doctor, he stays informed on current medical and pharmaceutical issues, and has demonstrated excellent knowledge and skill. No hesitation to recommend him to others. It's usually possible to get a same-day appointment because the office does not overbook appointments just to keep the waiting room full in spite of no-shows. There have been some "front office" lapses, such as responding to mail-order Rx refill authorizations, but a phone call usually resolves the issue. Electronic access to medical records online is a plus, but the complete file is not visible (such as office visit notes). read more

It's extremely difficult finding a good doctor. Many years back on my way to having major surgery I had to go through a long trial of several doctors before I was able to cure my issues. I just had my first visit with Dr. Ou and he asks all the right questions. His knowledge and empathy for the patient is very good. The nurse and staff are well trained and very friendly. Their system is up to date for a more personalized medicine system. This isn't old school out of date system, you can receive updates and info through their online portal. Giving it 2 stars. Thought about giving 1. The doctor himself ok. The main secretary greeting customers awful and rude. Trying to book an appointment, horrible. I've tried calling 3 days straight and no one answers the phone and you can not leave a message. I have literally had to drive over there just to book an appointment. And its not like they have wall to wall customers either. Their excuse, oh they use the phone lines themselves and they only have two. Whatever. So the line isnt picked up ALL DAY?? Very disappointed by the service. Not to sure he is up on what's wrong with kids all the time either. Maybe better for adults. Wish I could write a better review but this is the truth. Dr. Ou is the most responsible doctor anyone can get! He is caring, willing to listen(you know how important that is) and super nice to elder people. He speaks Chinese as well. When he heard Chinese he don't understand, he will check dictionary right away to make sure he understand correctly. He does not makes you wait 1 hour while he only spend 3 minutes on you. The waiting time is short, no more than 15 minutes. The assistants are professional and stay on top of things. He spent about 55 mins with us yesterday (we were the last appointment) and the service is beyond what we expected! Everybody was hold to stay late but nobody showed any impatient. Just tried to make an appt with this office. After attempting to verify my insurance (I have Blue Shield of CA), the office rep notified me that according to her check online, my insurance was showing as "inactive." So I call Blue Shield it's verified that everything is fine. I then ask the Blue Shield rep on the phone if they can call the medical office to tell them that my insurance is not inactive, but they inform me they would not do that and gave me a number that the medical office could call (a "provider" number) to verify my coverage. I then call the medical office and explain to them everything and the office rep tells me that she will check online again -- to which I respond that there is an issue with the online verification and can she please call the provider number given to me by Blue Shield. The office rep tells me no, she won't call the number and that the online way is faster and easier. In all fairness, Blue Shield deserves a 1 star, also, but it's nice how neither Blue Shield nor the medical office will make any kind of extra effort to help me out when I'm the one stuck in the middle because of a computer glitch. read more

Yelp needs a negative rating option. My 9 month old baby needed urgent attention and so my father in law called to book an appointment with Dr. Ou. as we were instructed by ER whom we visited this morning for our daughter's infection that our infant needed to follow up with a pediatrician. We have just moved from NYC 3 days ago so needed to find pediatrician ASAP. The receptionist at the Dr. Ou's office,Tiffany, had mentioned that they had an opening on the 3rd Jan. 3:15pm. But when she learned our daughter is not their patient she immediately stated that she can not make an appointment. My father in law had asked her to check with Dr. Ou for an exception since we came from NYC and needed urgent follow up care. Tiffany said she did not think it would be possible because the openings is for their patients only and we would not be able to be seen. When my father in law asked her when we can hear back from Dr. Ou she gave him a pretty bad attitude by saying she'll ask the doctor and will get back to him. When he asked when Tiffany replied, "sometime today and not sure when". As an employee of a doctor's office where care is the utmost importance, she just did not care and unqualified. Even after learning a full situation of my baby's state. We then called another doctor in West Covina, and the receptionist was caring enough to learn the condition and put the doctor on the phone. The doctor then instructed us what to do until Tuesday, 3rd of Jan. appointment. Care, excellent care, what a contrast!! This is the way a doctor's practice should be. Dr. Ou needs to learn how to run a health care practice by teaching proper mannerism to his employees first. The level of unkindness that Dr Ou's office staff portrays is what we see as uncaring and unprofessional. Best of luck to him in finding any new patients. read more
