He operated on my spine after consulting with me and discussing what I hoped to gain from the surgery. I wanted to stand for various activities without the need to sit, or lie to avoid the pain on standing. I wanted to walk without pain and finally, to stop the spontaneous lower back pain that haunted me throughout the day. Dr. Tang said, the best alternative would be a "spinal fusion". I accepted his recommendation and proceeded with the surgery. I improved and could stand and walk without pain. Several months went by and the pain returned with a vengeance. He recommended another, limited surgery which I went through. It didn't help. I lived with the pain on standing and walking hoping it would get better. After several months, I returned to see him and discuss the results of a recent lower spine x-ray. I'd seen the x-ray as well as the radiologist findings. The screws were loose in the bone noted by the radiologist. Looseness was indicated by radiolucencies, dark areas surrounding the screws. I'm a dentist and familiar with reading x-rays. I asked Dr. Tang if radiolucent areas concerned him. "No, the screws are not that important in your case." At this point, I couldn't help but ask how often screws he placed didn't integrate with the surrounding bone? "About 20% of the time". Then I asked him about getting an M.R.I. of the lower back because it would better show the soft tissue. He responded saying "There is no need. I already know what it would show." I reminded him that I continued to be in pain. He had nothing more to say. As soon as I returned home, I made an appointment at the UCSF Medical Campus Spine Center. They ordered an M.R.I. and when I met with a neurosurgeon, he had bad news for me. The previous surgery was failing. I would need an extensive back surgery. He, Dr. Nima Allen, was ambivalent about my going through with it. By now my pain had substantially worsened. I went home and wondered what I should do? Two weeks went by when I received a call from a spine surgeon's (Dr. Shane Burch) assistant reaching out to me to consult with Dr. Burch which I did. He felt the surgery would remove most of my pain and provide a normal curvature to my spine. A week later, the pain progressed to an intolerable level. I called Dr. Burch and gave him the go ahead. Fast forward to now, almost 4 months post surgical. I no longer have any back pain. I can stand for as long as I desire and I stand straight, no longer leaning to one side. Three surgeons participated in my care, a spine surgeon, a neurosurgeon and a vascular surgeon. Gordon Tang could not hope to handle my case, nor others like mine. I assume he is a competent neurosurgeon, but he is not a spine surgeon; although he claims to be one. I urge anyone reading this who might require spine surgery, to get another opinion. I had an injury to my right foot/ankle (tendon rupture partially) that I had been dealing with since last September & I was trying to avoid surgery but it wasn't healing so Dr. Talarico surgically repaired it in April, and he did an excellent job. A foot surgery is a very tough recovery but with Dr. Talarico's help & guidance I'm walking pain free again. Dr. Talarico & his staff took excellent care of me. His staff is also excellent & so caring kind & helpful. Veronica his office assistant is awesome & Yolanda his surgical scheduler was very helpful when I had to change my surgery date. I'd been there before, but the last 2 times I was there they were so backed up it took between 15 minutes and an hour to be seen by the Dr. for 5 minutes. This is an issue. The Dr. said my kneecap was either bruised or cracked and that an MRI would show which. The Dr. said it would take 4 to 6 weeks to heal if it was a bruise and longer if it was a crack. Since we couldn't do an MRI that day, they said they'd call me to set it up. Well, I heard nothing for a week, so I called to try to figure out when I could make an appointment. I called 5 times and not once did a human answer. I got a machine. Every. Single. Time. Eventually, I called the front desk in order to get someone on the line and told them, "Hey, I can't get ahold of the MRI department because it goes to voicemail every single time." They acted concerned and gave me an another number, which also went straight to voicemail. A few days later, the MRI scheduler FINALLY called me back to tell me they'd call me to make an appointment when it was my turn, because my issue wasn't urgent. Fast forward 4 weeks. That's right, as long as it was supposed to take for my knee to heal, if it wasn't cracked. I thought, ok, well, it's probably pointless to get an MRI now, but I should probably go just to make sure I can see the Dr. and get physical therapy. So, I called back to make an appointment. One week later, the day before my much-anticipated appointment, they cancelled it because their machine broke down. And, when I called to get another appointment? That's right, another voicemail. And they never called me back to reschedule. Now it's been almost 3 months and I have had no MRI, no updated Dr's visit, and no physical therapy. I now, also, have zero confidence in Webster Orthopedics and I'm telling my Dr. to stop recommending them.

On top of that, coordination between providers, referrals, and insurance was handled poorly, leaving me stuck in the middle repeatedly and causing unnecessary stress and delays in care. Ankle has become 100% painless and functional. Currently working on knee, preparing for a half marathon in 2 weeks. Chris pays attention and listens to his patients. He then customizes exercises to help with the healing process. He pushes me just hard enough to get beneficial results without adding to the existing pain. I am miraculously ready for my half marathon thanks to Chris! I made it a point to ask for Chris after my ankle was healed but then knee started acting up. Chris is and will be my go to Physical Therapist. I am also very used to checking in with an iPad sort of situation so I am not at the very least bothered by checking in with a friendly person on a computer screen. Receptionist lady is always busy making calls to help schedule patients so I completely understand the need. She also gladly checked me in one time when the computer screen was not working. At the main clinic, I had no issue getting appointments for MRI and with Dr Talarico and Dr Sagoo, all within 48 hours. My GP Dr Lawrence told me to throw his name around. I think he's joking, isn't he?
