I had a few stomach issues he helped me with and now that I am retired and need to us my pension health care, he is isn't covered by my insurance. I traine with Jon Ellis at Cedars-Sinai, and both of us received the great privilege of being named Chief Residents in one of the best hospitals in the country. Jon is as good a physician as I have ever encountered. He is also an exceedingly brilliant nice guy, which is a rare combo. Jonathan Ellis knows his stuff. He saved my guts and my health when no other doctor would. I was sick as a dog while wrapping up law school at UCLA, and decided my intestines were clogged up. This turned out to be true when a CT down the road showed my colon was impacted, but at the outset I decided I had parasites and set off on an independent mission to rid myself of them. I took an herbal cleanse, and late in the process passed a literal worm (dead, but worm). This thing was hideously long (over 12"), and not segmented. I stored it in alcohol after taking a scaled picture of it. I then clutched the lapels of every UCLA doctor in my university network and THEY ALL stared in shock at the photo, but refused to let it be conclusive enough to write me a scrip for a single dose of medication listed as "essential" by the World Health Organization (because parasites are globally dangerous, and actually not uncommon). Instead they sent me off for countless stool/ova tests that all came back negative, and after several months of waiting for a damned appointment with an ID specialist they 'tested' the desiccated worm body and it also came back negative. Then they wrote me off as a lunatic and largely ignored my collateral health problems. Later, when I got the CT and it showed fecal impaction, I was put on laxatives and fiber and started eliminating a full-scale roundworm graveyard. Yep. This is horrifying, I know. No one wants to be this person. I then told the UCLA doctors what was coming out of my body and they ALL ignored me, from GI to ID to PCP to GI again. And then I graduated, and moved on to a PPO on the private market and a wealthy lawyer-buddy who told me to give Dr. Ellis a call. I no longer give a damn about the nightmarish humiliation of having a roundworm infection because my problem was solved with the help of Dr. Ellis, who took one Stanford look at my photograph and said "Yep, that's a problem" before texting my photo - on the spot - to his ID collegue who confirmed within seconds what it was: ascaris (just as I'd always thought). Next thing Dr. Ellis whips out the PRESCRIPTION PAD and I walk away with a powerful antihelmithic drug. THANK YOU GOD. As soon as I took the meds I felt the rock that had become my small intestines drop into my lower abdomen and eventually I passed a whole clog of dead ascaris. That was 1.5 years ago. I have since gained 20 pounds and no longer look like a skeleton. My cystic acne is almost completely gone. I am eating quality food because I've never been this healthy and I don't ever want it to stop. Thank you Dr. Ellis. I bet I'm one of the wacky ones, but your aplomb with regards to my "condition" has left me looking supermodel gorgeous for the first time since childhood. To add insult to injury. Dr. Ellis and his staff NEVER return phone call to rectify their erroneous billing. Instead, they send it to collections. I will be sending a complaint to the medical board and I highly recommend ANYONE else who has experienced this from Dr. Ellis and his unprofessional office staff to do the same. I made arrangements for a preprocedure appointment with Dr. Ellis for an endoscopy and colonoscopy (my third colonoscopy from Dr. Ellis). I presented my Medicare card and my supplemental insurance card (Anthem Blue Cross) and was verbally assured everything was in order and that my insurance would cover all the costs. On the morning of my procedures, again my insurance cards were reviewed and I proceeded into the suite to have my procedures. NOW,I have received bills from Dr. Ellis's office stating that Anthem did not pay ANY of the supplemental charges (my deductible had already been met) and I was responsible for all the remaining charges. I phoned Anthem and they stated Dr. Ellis is not in their network.....and they did not pay any fees to him. WHY WOULD THE OFFICE STAFF NOT TELL ME DR.ELLIS WAS NOT IN THE ANTHEM NETWORK AT THAT TIME. Surely, I would have had an opportunity to find another doctor...........I am currently in dispute with all this misled billing. ASK about your insurance and whether Dr. Ellis accepts it in reality.....do NOT be misled..........what a terrible position to be in..........all of this could have been avoided if the insurance information had been truthfully explained at the preprocedure visit or at best...the morning of the procedures. Maria is warm, friendly, very helpful and always a pleasure to speak with. I am a bit less of a fan of Jessica who was misleading about costs for a procedure, this resulted in me have an extremely large bill that I was not expecting. When I turned 50 I was scared witless to have a colonoscopy. But after several doctors raved about Dr. Jonathan Ellis I decided to bite the bullet and have the procedure. Dr Ellis made the entire process so easy, so pleasant if you can believe it. He's a kind, sweet, wonderful man. He listens to everything you say, answers every question. And most of all he's a fantastic doctor. I felt no pain, in fact after the procedure I went home and vacuumed! And my husband had the procedure and actually did it awake with no anesthesia! While I would not do that, it speaks to the confidence Dr Ellis engenders. I recently went to Dr. Ellis a few days ago and given my previous experience with GI doctors I wasn't too excited about going. I am reluctant in general to go to Wester Medicine doctors. My general practitioner is a naturopathic doctor who uses Western Medicine to diagnose and alternative medicine to treat, and given the extensive knowledge that I have now accumulated over the years of using natural medicine it is hard to go to Western Doctors. But Dr. Ellis was an exception. And quite exceptional! He listened to ALL of my problems very intently, was very honest about what he thought may be the issue and he also ordered ALL the tests I asked for. Sometimes doctors TELL patients what they should and shouldn't test for but Dr. Ellis really allows you to explain how your body is feeling and where you feel off. He allows your body to tell the story and doesn't tell you what tests you should and shouldn't get unless that test is completely unnecessary. My time with him was great and it was very reassuring to see that a specialist was seeing what I was seeing, and able to physically FEEL what I was feeling. When it came time to give me my small treatment plan of what he advised I do, he actually integrated ALL the things that my naturopathic doc recommended for me which was obviously a pleasant surprise. I was very pleased with his fusion of western and natural remedies as I am opening myself more up to Western Med. He's a very kind hearted person, easy to talk to and actually quite funny. I'm all for comedic relief. He is most definitely someone you should go to, to help you along your journey to a healthier form of you.
