Jon was a good dentist, great person, kind and pleasant to work with. His asst. Nicole is absolutely amazing. Jon's partner, Melissa, Amazing person + beautiful positive energy Jon's Hygienist, Pega does high quality superb work, her expertise, insights & knowledge top notch. Unfortunately, she was pushed out by his Low life Hygienist, Marjon. Her work was sloppy, poor quality not to mention she was a nasty person. Like other's share here, Receptionist Deby, super shady, doing things behind Jon's back, he had no clue since he trusted her. There is often that bad apple in every workplace. Poor Jon, he could not accept the fact Deby abused her position mishandling the financials & selling insurance behind his back he was clueless about. Melissa, his amazing partner was forced to intervene & resolve so many shady outcomes caused by Deby Karma catches up, when she got sick, it wasn't surprising. Bad energy does catch up with bad people aka the cancer in other's day. It sucked to see such a good guy, trusting in someone who did not deserve his trust then hurt his business. Sometimes people just do not want to believe or see the red flags all too well. read more

I HATE like hell to be the bearer of BAD NEWS, but brace yourself: Dr. Ornstil has retired!! DAMN! I hadn't visited him for a while, so I was completely surprised. I never thought Jon was old enough to retire, but obviously he is. I found out that he has actually moved to Oregon. He was a really good and caring dentist, so I'm sure his former patients will miss him. I know I will! GOOD LUCK, JON! Larry read more

Very good experience with Dr Ornstil. My spouse referred me to his office for a last minute tooth problem, right before going abroad for an extended amount of time. Bedside manner: VERY GENTLE, Calm, and Listens to your body language during the procedure. Procedure: tooth decay removal, and reshaping of tooth - filling, saving my tooth, no root canal, no crown. Be advised, I went to 2 other offices over the course of a year who said I would need a root canal and a crown. I wanted to work with a doctor who wants to save my tooth, in which Dr Ornstil executed this expectation perfectly. Clearly, he is a very talented professional, and I look forward to being his patient for the future. The office staff are very fun and kind, very easy going and organized. The view from the office during the procedure overlooking the San Francisco Bay, are very calming. I highly recommend to my fellow yelpers. Solid 5 stars! read more

I have a morbid fear of dentists and the fear is mutual. As a kid, I was known as a "biter." If they had armored humvees then, I'm sure my dentist would have driven one to the side o' my chair. But I had good reasons for this fear: 1) I saw Marathon Man at far too tender an age 2) a shyster dentist gave me stainless steel crowns when I was a kid, so I looked like "Jaws" from that James Bond movie. and if you look liked a pint-sized version of Jaws, damned if you're not going to act like him occasionally. But Dr. Ornstil put all those memories -- and toothsome metallic mementoes of my naive mother getting fleeced -- in the dustbin of history. I mean, have you ever heard of crowns that look so gorgeous you get admitted to Hollywood nightclubs that Tara Reid gets rejected from? well, I got them here. This man, and his staff, are angels. he is better than any cosmetic millionaire dentist, but is just a regular guy charging regular rates. But don't go here because it takes months to get an appt! so forget everything I just said. read more

Some come back from Vegas with a hangover.. I came back with a toothache. Desperate for help I chanced upon Dr. Ornstil's office and was able to get in that day to get my tooth looked at. Turns out I needed a root canal. Dr. Ornstil and the other staff were incredibly helpful in getting me referred to an endodontist who could do the root canal. Ravi Koka (who I also need to write a review for) was incredible, the transition to his office from Dr.Ornstil's was easy and well communicated. Since the root canal saga I have been back to Dr. Ornstil's office twice. I have to give a special shout ot to Sally the dental assistant, it is like having your mother (well if your mother isn't nice think of the greatest citcom mom ever) in the room with you. She is sweet in her instructions, and squeezes your hand when she knows it hurts! I also recently had a regular cleaning here and also got to spend a little time with the dental hygenist (I forget her name so sad) Sometimes a teeth cleaning can be painful, the grinding and poking.. but she was fantastic, very informative and if she asked you a question, she got her tools out of your mouth and gave you time to respond :) Dr. Ornistl followed up with a few little pokes.. the most stress free dental experiences ever! I now need to get my wisdom teeth pulled and the office manager/receptionist (Dang I forget her name too, but she's always the one behind the desk) not only gave me another great referral but made sure the one she referred me to was covered under my insurance. She is incredible at fitting appointments into your schedule in a timely manner. Don't have insurance or don't have great insurance.. she will also assist you with a payment plan that works for you. I cannot say enough about the crew at Dr. Ornstil's office. And to top it all off you get a view of the city as you sit :) read more

Great dentist. I was 30 when I first went to see him back in 1998, and hadn't gone into a dentist for years (like 10 -- yeah I know. gross). I had so much work that needed to be done, but Dr. Jon was awesome, basically setting me up on a 2 year plan that would take care of everything and keep me within my new dental plan yearly limit. Very professional, obviously caring, and the staff (Hi Sal!) is top rate. I've referred I think 5 or 6 people directly to his office. Say Steve sent you, and remind the doctor that "there's no talking on the hill. read more

It's cliche to say that you hate going to the dentist but it's true! I arrived at Dr. Ornstil's office to have an old filling replaced. This involved drilling and thus it also involved... a shot! UGH. No matter how great the views and magazines were, I couldn't shake my nervousness. This is where Sally comes in. I'm not sure of what Sally's position is there but it should be Mother. She sensed that I was tensing up when the shot was being administered. I felt that her hand was close to mine and when the needle went in, I shamelessly grabbed her hand. With her other hand she patted me on the shoulder. I can't tell you how soothing that was! After it was all over I thanked her and told her she was the sweetest person I've ever met. P.s. The receptionist's name is Debby! read more

Dr. Ornstil is simply the best! I have been coming to him for several years now. Everyone at work recommended him. I had not been to a dentist in years and had a high anxiety level. I still do plus I also have problem teeth...nothing is ever as it seems. He is an artist when it comes to working on teeth. I am retired now and live in Vallejo. I have been to several local dentists but always return to Dr. O. He is thorough, compassionate and always looks for the best solution to the problem. He also listens to your concerns. I can't say enough good things about him and his staff. Just give him a call. read more

Dr. Ornstil repaired two fillings that had been done poorly by another local dentist, and ended the pain I'd had since the first round. He and his staff are professional, calm and friendly. I'd recommend him to anyone for routine cleanings and any other dental needs you have. Also, his receptionist is the best! Debbie is always in a good mood. read more

Great office, great staff. I love that I can go in there - get my teeth cleaned and if there's no problem - I'll see them again in 6 months. No nonsense - no up-sell. I actually look forward to my visit! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Ornstil for 20+ years. He and his staff are the best. Here's why: First, they are always on time. Second, their dental hygienist is amazing - she cleans thoroughly and it's never painful. I always feel as if I've had a treatment at a spa. Next, whether it's having my cavities filled or work on my crown, Dr. Ornstil knows his craft well and has never "accidentally" caused me pain. Fourth, they are very friendly, always asking how my family is. It's always a pleasure to see the staff and catch up. Finally, the views of Coit Tower, North Beach and the Financial District are amazing! I have referred several family members and friends to him with the same results. I highly recommend Dr. Ornstil and his staff. read more

Jon Ornstil treated my teeth (and me) well for a number of years. After he found a receptionist named Deby, it went downhill from there. Favored staff rotated out in Deby's wake. She is arrogant and presumptive, and I think she puts her nose into business not teeth-related. I eventually found a new dentist. New patients, especially, be leery. read more

I'm not scared anymore. I am the biggest baby when it comes to seeing the dentist and I must confess I have a fatalistic attitude when it comes to my teeth. However, I don't absolutely dread going to see Dr. Ornstil. He and his staff are expert, courteous and understanding of people like me to who hate the shrill sound of dental drills, the smell of ground enamel, the taste of yucky chemicals and the feel of small needles. He still does what needs to be done but its not awful. I actually leave there feeling refreshed and optimistic about my next visit. Thanks guys! Victor read more

I just had my first appointment with this practice. It was wonderful! The staff who answered the phone answered all my questions, sent me paperwork to complete in advance of my appointment, and accepted my current dental records and x-rays electronically. I received a timely reminder of the appointment. When I arrived, I was greeted by friendly staff and a very likable dentist. The staff explained everything to me, did my x-rays quickly and efficiently, and turned me over to the dentist who performed my exam. When we discovered we have a shared love of the outdoors, he talked about several notable local hiking trails while doing my exam. I was then turned over to a skilled and friendly hygienist who cleaned my teeth in record time, all the while asking questions about how I take care of my teeth and mouth and making recommendations about how I might subtly shift my dental care habits to prolong the health of my mouth. I am a total fan of these people! read more

Jonathan A Ornstil, DDS - General Dentistry Near Me

Jon's been my dentist for years; even though there are many others much closer to where I live now, he's so good I can't imagine going to anyone else. He's got a great team of caring and professional people in his office, some have been with him forever (e.g., Sally). I've been surprised over the years by the number of my friends and acquaintances that have discovered him on their own (well, they are clever people who are always seeking the best). Highly recommended. read more

When my dentist of 30 years retired, I tried a new one and soon realized I'd need to find another one fast. (the interim dentist diagnosed all kinds of problems and poduced a treatment plan that would break a bank). I asked a friend for a recommendation and he gave me a glowing one on Dr. Ornstil. At first I went to Dr. Ornstil for a second opinion as I was shocked at what the previous dentist suggested. What I got from Dr. Ornstil was an honest and reasonable assessment of what needed to be done. He was so straightforward and decent that I immediately chose him as my dentist. That was over 3 years ago and with every visit I have been totally pleased with not only the doctor, but everyone on his staff. They are great, compassionate, and helpful. They also seem to be very popular, so appointments for cleanings tend to be filled up for weeks in advance, especially if you prefer afternoon appointments. But if you have an emergency situation they seem to do everything possible to fit you in. Also, unlike a lot of dentists these days, they are not trying to find all sorts of ways to make money off of you, like pushing teeth whitening or other extras. They take care of what you need done, and with great care and compassion. read more

Dr Ornstil might be good, but only if you can see him. His receptionist was terrible, she sounded like she was high when I called her to make an appointment with Dr Ornstil, she wasn't clear answering my questions and started to giggle all of a sudden. I didn't know what's so funny cause I was just asking about scheduling. I had to repeat my question, twice, and then she asked me to repeat for the 3rd time cause she was still laughing. At the end, she slammed the phone down in my ear. I never wrote reviews on yelp, but I have to give my first one to this most unprofessional lady I've ever talked to. read more

Best dentist I've ever had. He is considered, thoughtful and really conservative with procedures which I personally am a fan of when it comes to the dentist. The office is really friendly and personable which is great too. read more

I've been going to Johnathan Ornstil since I was in Elementary school! He's awesome! When he moved his office from San Leandro to these great digs in San Francisco we didn't even think about finding a new dentist closer to home. His whole staff is really great too. Plus, when you're in the chair you get an unobstructed view of Coit Tower. Beware, if you're making an appointment for a cleaning, you'll need to do so in advance, it is typically a month before they have an opening. read more

Doctor Ornstil and his staff are professional and nice. Have been with the doctor for over 10 years. Never had any problem.

It was with a very heavy heart that I left my dentist in Monterey after a decade of being treated by him He was the dentist I got a second opinion from after I had been told that I had thirteen cavities. He declared me cavity free and has helped me remain cavity free right up til my 34th year. Since moving to San Francisco, I had been reluctant to try another dentist. Reluctantly I found one on my dental insurance website and trudged over... I was so happy that I didn't drive to Monterey every six months to re-visit my old dentist. Dr. Ornstil and his staff are fantastic!!!!! I was blown away by how sweet and accommodating his receptionist was And the lady who took my x-rays - the BEST EVER! Majan who did my cleaning - virtually painless. I love these guys! Try them out... read more

I miss Dr. Ornstil - - having moved down to LA a year ago, I have been tempted to spend money to fly up there twice a year for checkups! But seriously, I was recommended this dentist when I moved to SF in 1996 and remained a happy patient until I moved away in 2006. He has an excellent and gentle "chair-side manner", and his staff is nothing short of fantastic. Plus, his offices have the best views around! The whole package makes for one awesome tooth experience. read more

Best Dentist in SF for sure! I've never had a problem with them EVER. I recommend them to anyone looking for a new dentist.

I love this dentist and I am a person who thought they would never say that about a dentist. He is very patient and kind. I am very sensitive to pain and he is aware of it and waits for topical anesthesia to work before having to give me any shots if I need it. His whole staff is friendly and sweet and nice. I even was able to make payments for my bills and still get to go see him when I need to. read more

People always warn you about dentists trying to take advantage of you and talking you into unnecessary procedures, but not this man. He's been truly amazing always taking his time and being cautious before considering any procedures. He's made amazing referrals to other specialists instead of risking my well being for his own ego or wallet. He and his office admin are both super friendly, compassionate and helpful. read more

This review is long overdue... definitely the best. My husband and I think that Dr. Ornstil is incredibly talented, professional and friendly. I've referred him to coworkers and they all agree too. read more

I went to Dr Ornstil on a last minute notice. I had severe pain with my molar and he was so gentle and friendly. His secretary was also extremely helpful. I only wish Dr. Ornstil was also a route canal specialist so I could fix all of my teeth issues with him. Hands down, he was the best dentist I've been to. Patient, friendly, efficient, sense of humor, and super helpful as well as. I was recommended by my boss who is a patient of his, and I can see why! I wanted to hug him, he made me feel so comfortable! read more

Dr. Ornstil is very friendly and very diligent in his work. He did a great crown for me... though I suppose you don't really know till years down the road how it will actually last. I'm about 6 months in and it has worked wonderfully. read more

i think he is just ok. months to get an appt. if your appt. is at 9am (and it says 9am on your cell phone--ie correct time) they will start calling you non stop on every phone number possible (cell, home, work) saying that you are late. (i am not talking about first appt. which you should be early for, i am talking about other appts). they sometimes just do work without asking. once i was getting fillings and they just went ahead and did another. which, was totally fine and i would have had done anyhow, but would really liked to have been asked first. it was an extra $100--which was fine, but would not be for everyone. i do not go here anymore. read more

I found out about Dr. Ornstil from a colleague. It was shorty after I realized finding a good dentist is a lot like finding a good mechanic. Dr. Ornstil is trustworthy, and does an amazing job. If I ever leave SF I am taking him with me. It would be really cool if he fixed cars, because all my problems would be solved. Oh..and his staff is amazing. I have been going there for 5 years now, and it 's still the same team. read more

Love him. Getting a cleaning at my last dentist was a blood bath - I always emerged soaking wet from the water sprayer thingy with half my makeup running down my face and my mouth bleeding. I feel Dr. Ornstil's office gives me an excellent and thorough cleaning but it's quick and while not painless - it's definitely a much more pleasant experience. I have referred friends there as well and they've all been really happy with him and his team. read more

Dr. Ornstil is AWESOME! I have lived all over the country and in Europe, so I've been to alot of dentists over my lifetime. Dr. Ornstil is by far the best dentist I've ever visited. I'm a really tough customer/patient to please, but I'm totally satisfied with his work. He did several crowns for me and they are great. They look good, feel good, and have stayed in place (unlike work I've had done by other dentists!). And I have to give a shout out to his awesome assistant Sally! You'll love this place--as much as is possible to love a dentist's office........ha! read more

Dr. Jonathan Ornstil and his staff is my most favored family dentist. For myself, my daughter and granddaughter. My daughter had dental phobia and stayed away from dentist for many years, but after visiting Dr. Ornstil, her teeth are great and she feels quite comfortable with him and his staff. My granddaughter, too. And, myself as well. Professional, gentle, competent, friendly, providing great care for your mouth and teeth. read more

I can't say enough good things about Jon! Most of us - for good reasons - have an antipathy toward dental care. Jon understands that & in an effort to eradicate that view, treats his patients in an unfailingly courteous manner. He is happy to explain the cause of the problem and the various treatment options. The office staff are equally competent and helpful. read more
