Dr. Hee was rude and dishonest. As one example: He told me that Delta would not cover a cavity filling that required crown lengthening (going under the gumline ) unless the procedure is done on TWO SEPARATE DAYS. That is completely false. In fact, Delta requires that lengthening and filling be charged as ONE procedure. SO, I took two days off work because he said it had to be done on two different days. And the result was that he charged me for TWO SEPARATE procedures instead of ONE. The lengthening which took two minutes and removed a micro amount of gum was $1000; and the filling $450. Later, Delta told him he should have charged it as one procedure. On another occasion, he said he didn't feel like putting in a new crown on a tooth even after the endodontist said I needed. (he said, I don't like to be rushed! a very common exclamation). Instead, he put in three "walls" of filling. Delta did not cover that (it would have covered a new crown) and I ended up paying $2000 for the walls out of pocket. The tooth fell apart during an unrelated surgery, and doctors had to wake me up because it was going down my throat. Dr. Hee said Oh dear I guess you can come in and maybe we can save the tooth. Forget it! Another dentist put a new crown on an emergency basis, no problem. The new dentist was appalled that the crown was not done in the first place, and Dr. Hee's work put that tooth in danger and may have required a re-root canal. I demanded a refund and he sent my complaint to his insurance which just denied the claim without apparently looking over any records of what happened. read more

I found Dr Hee while researching three dentist offices in SF that had safe amalgam removal (mercury fillings). This office BY FAR takes the most progressive and pro-active approach. Other offices used just a dental dam (not enough due to fumes), some also used the air suction machine (name?) for the fumes, but Dr Hee is very aware of the dangers and goes the extra steps. For example, he had the motor in the air suction machine changed by the manufacturer to make it more powerful. He also actively keeps up the latest studies and testings on amalgam removal processes and equipment. Bonuses: reasonable costs compared to other quotes I received, easy and cautious anesthesia placement, comforts (movie glasses with huge movie library, neck pillow), soothing entrance and reception area (pond and full glass wall with view of garden), private room for dental work (one dentist office I researched does not have a sealed off room, just a divider), parking options (compared to downtown SF). Many dentists and MDs do not know the dangers of mercury fillings. I can tell you from first hand experience from years of major health issues and seeing different doctors and medical tests/routines. Finally, an MD, also trained in integrative and functional medicine, asked me if I've had a heavy metal toxins test. I have since learned of many people with life changing issues due to either, unsafe removal of amalgam fillings, or, living with amalgam fillings from the beginning like me. The government has admitted in court three times that there is an issue but has not made it a priority to educate or change this. Educate yourself. I've heard there is a documentary on this out there but I've been through enough so I'll save that for another day. Tips: If you grind your teeth (like me), you may be releasing more mercury vapors. If your dental hygienist polishes your metal fillings, that may be exposing more mercury. I found it helpful check my liver DNA methylation to see if my liver is a high/medium/low processor of toxins (mine is low, I got the raw data from DNA tests like 23&me or AncestryDNA). I can go on and on, obviously, so I'll just say "Thank You!" to Dr. Hee and his staff! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Hee for 4 years and I am very pleased with his skills, knowledge and general expertise. The staff is very polite and the new office is state of the art. I honesty wouldn't hesitate in calling it a dental spa. It is a small family operation so occasionally waits can be long. A few years back they botched the billing to my insurance carrier but I believe they have since sorted this out. Overall I still think it's first rate considering what a great job they do. I have gone to other dentists when my insurance carrier changed and always found myself running back to Dr. Hee's. I have had fillings and teeth cleanings and all were done painlessly with superior outcomes. This place is as hygienic and sterile as a dentist office should be. Well done! ****UPDATE**** Knocked down a few because I was told, on two separate occasions, that I had two cavities that needed filling. Well, I got a second opinion and I 'm glad I did. After a few X-Rays it turned out I had ZERO cavities. SKETCHY!! read more

I started seeing a dentist I found through insurance, then lost that job, but kept the dentist because he was amazing. His name was David Gong. In 2005, he was murdered, and Dr. Hee, a friend from med school, took over Dr. Gong's patients. I sometimes wonder whether some of Dr. Gong's patients were slow to warm to Dr. Hee, and how many chose to find entirely new dentists. Man, I'm sooooo glad I was open to this guy. I've stuck with him (still out of plan, especially as I don't have one at present) ever since, since that first time he saw me at Dr. Gong's old office. In the 2.5 years since, I've started going to Dr. Hee's amazing office out in West Portal. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, and one of them came from Dr. Gong's. The first time Dr. Hee saw me, he has a camera wand that broadcast my mouth on a tiny TV in the corner, no bigger than 12 inches. Through a series of technological evolutions, it's now the case that when you get your teeth cleaned, you have the option of watching a movie on a 32-inch flatscreen TV mounted on the ceiling above you. I watched Planet Earth a few months ago. Easily the best cleaning I've ever had. But of course Dr. Hee isn't the hygenist (Dr. Gong was, preferring to run the whole operation himself). But get this: Two visits ago, I had a hygenist at Dr. Hee's office whom I didn't like, who tried to fearmonger me into buying a bunch of stuff and making me think I needed $1,000+ surgery. When Dr. Hee came in a few minutes later to examine me, I asked him about all that she had said, and he seemed shocked. He brought me back to reality, insisting I brush and floss regularly, and that I had a tiny cavity that, because he knows I'm not made of money, I could take care of whenever I was ready. I have not seen that hygenist at the office since. He's that cool. read more

Dr Hee is the second Dentist I have had in my life that I have trusted and liked. Dr Hee is caring and professional. He takes pride in his work, is current on technology and knowledge. I have experienced no pain despite large amounts of dental work including 5 implants. Implants with no pain, little to no blood or even soreness. I was able to go home that evening and return to work the next day. His family run business is warm, friendly, polite....All of the staff from the front desk to the hygenist are wonderful. Dr Hee has my highest rating from one who had enough bad dental (quality and honesty issues) experiences to dislike and mistrust all dentists equally. There must be something about birds of a feather.... The other dentist I liked and trusted was his friend Dr Gong. He was the nicest man you could ever hope to meet and the dentist who won me over. Dr Gong was tragically gunned down in front of his office and Dr Hee took over his practice. The change was tough and I moved to Dr Hee's West Portal office very reluctantly and was looking for a new dentist. After seeing Dr Hee a few times I decided that the trek from home in the E Bay or from my office in SOMA was worth it and today I could not be happier with my choice! read more

Are you at a spa or in a dentist's office? This professional puts the client first. A real class act. Warm neck pillow? Check. Movies to watch while in the chair? Check. Impressive office decor and staff? check check. Do you need a dentist, but hate shots? I never feel the needle. Kinda amazing. I have seen many dentists, and I really think Dr. Hee has the best practice I have found. Can't go wrong. read more

Dr. Hee, I miss you! I'm in Boston now, looking for a new dentist. For 4 years now I have waited until vacations to San Francisco to go back to visit Dr. Hee because he is so great. The most important thing is the quality of his work. I have had numerous fillings from him as well as more serious inlays and I have never had a dentist this good. His technique at giving shots makes you almost not even realize they are being administered. The quality of fillings and his expertise and knowledge is unrivaled. I am finally realizing that, as a teacher, I can't afford to travel back to San Francisco for my dentistry. Wish you were in Boston :-( read more

The best dentist in San Francisco. I am from Europe and have very high standards for dentists. Dr. Hee is very professional and does a great job. You also get to watch movies while your teeth are worked on and you get to sit in a massage chair! You almost don't feel like you are at the dentist anymore. read more

Having a dental emergency is never fun. After being recommended to Dr Hee through a friend I setup an appointment for the next day. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a lot of extra touches to make your visit enjoyable, like a list of movies to watch and coffee or tea. This office loves technology and embraces it in a refreshing way. My second visit was today and they did a great job. read more

I also had a dental emergency and got nothing by the best care from dr. hee. He was genuinely concerned about my recovery and I was glad I was referred to him by a friend in the area. A few days after visiting his office, he even personally called me to follow-up on my healing. I have nothing but good things to say about the courtesy of dr. hee and his staff in the office. They took great care of me at a time when I really needed it! read more

I am canceling my current dental insurance so I can go to Dr. Hee, after being reminded how the rest of the dentists out there are.

It's hard to complain about going to the dentist when you get to either watch Planet Earth on two flatscreens above and in front of you or one of the many movies and TV shows the office has on hand with movie goggles. Dr. Hee has been my dentist since I was a little kid and, (does complimenting your own teeth really count as bragging?) I have beeyoutiful teeth, thanks to his office. The hygienists are usually gentle and sweet and they make a point to remember people's names. Before the movie goggles, and even when I was forced to endure fluoride, I loved going to the dentist because they used have a prize drawer and because I always got free toothbrushes and toothpaste which I was, for some reason, extremely excited about. Great dentist, great office, perhaps not so great prices. read more

Really nice office and staff. Unfortunately decided to switch to another dentist due to constant long waits since Dr. Hee consistently runs late. Glad I switched since found out from my new dentist I had unneeded work done, including a gum graft and filling work. So glad I did! read more

I guess I've been lucky that of the three dentists that I've seen in my life, I've never had a bad experience. Dr. Hee continues that tradition. I like that he explains my options, including price and the estimated lifespan of each option. Everyone is super friendly. Also, can I say this place is like a spa? Also, the movie goggles are killer for longer procedures. read more

I've been going to Dr Hee for years! My whole family goes. Love his practice and trust him. He won't tell you that you need unnecessary work! read more

I love Dr. Hee and his staff! They are very professional and courteous and will do anything to make you comfortable. Dr. Hee is very gentle, too - and I'm a big baby when it comes to dentists! I highly recommend him. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Hee for 33 years, so has my sister. He's the longest relationship I've ever had!

Excellent hygenist but please be aware of potentially unnecessary out of pocket costs... I paid over $300 for a nightguard twice! ( I lost the first one during a vacation) My new dentist told me that my insurance covers nightguards and that I should not have to pay out of pocket for it. I wrote Dr. Hee a letter to request a refund and never got a reply. I seriously miss the hygenist though- absolutely THE BEST cleaning I've ever had. read more

I, and my extended family, have been patients at Dr. Hee's office since he opened his business 25-30 years ago. His office is very clean, organized, and their staff is top-notch. Everyone is very pleasant and always explain procedures well. While I have had many dental procedures over the years for an issue with grinding my teeth, I can happily say that I am nearly cavity-free thanks, in part, to Dr. Hee's guidance regarding fillings and maintenance. I look forward to visiting them twice a year, and feel very lucky that I have had such excellent service and treatment for all these years. Thanks Dr. Hee and staff! read more

Dr Hee was recommended to me by 2 friends independently. I've been seeing him for years, and I can see why they love his work--I do too. Dr Hee has a great staff, which is a good reflection on the tone he sets. He's always up on the latest gadgets and technology both for patient comfort and for improving dental work, including working with a 3-D microscopic viewer for much of his work. His standards of work are very high, and he pays attention to patient comfort. Very high marks. read more

Without a doubt, the best dentist I have ever been to. It is obvious that the staff here genuinely cares about your well-being. :) They've got a n awesome zen garden and koi pond where you can easily and freely enjoy. They serve you tea, and even let you watch a movie on their HD TVs and movie goggles! I went for amalgam removals(both sessions lasted 4 hours each). They were careful, gentle and precise. They had given me 3 anesthetic shots and I did not feel a thing! I watched Finding Nemo and Enter the Dragon both of the sessions and had even fallen asleep. :D They have the best equipment available. They have extensive knowledge of their field. They even have plants in each room, b/c they even know it gives off a more relaxing atmosphere. They made the best out of their office's location and size,a nd utilized it to the fullest. The only flaw I can think of, is that I am surprised they could not afford a fancier aquarium! Staff is very friendly, and genuine. Very neat, fancy and relaxing atmosphere. Not too expensive at all, which is great. Very professional. After going here, I am never seeing another dentist other than this place. This place really sets the standard for me. It is small, but it is very much enjoyable for a dentist's office. read more

I've been Dr. Hee's patient for 18 years. He is patient, kind, caring, gentle. He is open to alternative ways of having healthy teeth.

Dr. Brian Hee is absolutely amazing. Look no further for the best dentist in the Bay Area. His prices are really reasonable (obviously important if he's not on your dental plan), and has the friendliest medical staff I've ever met. (His wife actually came and picked me up from the MUNI station!) If six stars were available I'd give him every single one. He's a gem. read more

I used to be the biggest wimp when it came to dentists. Approximately 7 years ago I started seeing Dr. Hee and he's the best dentist I've ever experienced. Dr Hee and his entire staff have created a relaxing atmosphere that is nothing like I experienced in the past. Everyone tends to, no, dotes on your every need - warm neck pillow, a good selection of movies and beverages. Dr Hee and Steven the hygienist, have what I warmly call the magic touch. I don't know where they were taught but it should be mandatory for their peers. I have referred my husband, mother in-law, neighbors, and a co-worker. They all share my opinion. I happily recommend Dr Hee to anyone in need of a First Class dentist. Thanks Dr Hee and Staff!! read more

What the other reviewer said is absoloutely correct--with one caveat. Dr. Hee has a horrible track record of keeping patients waiting...and waiting...and waiting. I have seen him for many years and have often waited for more than an hour. They'll seat you in the chair maybe 10-15 minutes after your appointment time and then you'll be waiting there for another 15-45 minutes longer I'm not kidding. Yes we can watch movies and sit in a chair that massages you but if he's not going to be ready why doesn't he schedule his patients further apart? I can understand one time here or one time there but this has been going on for years. I love him he's a really nice guy and his work is great but sooner or later his disregard for my time may cause me to leave. read more

switched to dr hee after having been with my family dentist for more than 10 years. wish i had done it sooner, service starts fr front desk with a beautiful smile from a charming young lady named daena, tea and cookie offered while waiting. steven the hygienist is very conscientious and is quite good with his job. dental assistant named danelle is as charming and quite helpful. as far as seeing what's inside your mouth projected on screen , what can be cooler than that?as for dr. brian hee, he can easily make other dentists look bad, he's very gentle, patient and will explain your dental health in simple, layman terms. read more

I have visited many dentists in my lifetime and this experience was outstanding from the moment I called to make my appointment, to the warm reception I received when I showed up, through the whole procedure of removing two mercury fillings. I did my research on trying to find a holistic dentist who practices SAFE removal of mercury (don't be fooled folks mercury is HIGHLY toxic to your nervous system and brain - do not go to a "regular" dentist to get them removed because they can cause a host of debilitating side effects). Dr. Hee has the latest and greatest in dentistry to make sure you, himself and his staff are highly protected against the mercury vapors. He has a lovely bedside manner and obviously loves what he does. Janet and Jessica are extremely caring and helpful and I am very thankful for everyone who took care of me. If you want an OUTSTANDING dentist then this is your place! This was such an amazing experience that if I could give them 10 stars I would. No need to look elsewhere because this is the best dentist I have ever found. read more
