Jon is really accommodating to walk ins! Tell him Susan sent you. Price is nice, he picked the perfect low tones for my hair, nice trim since I'm trying to grow my hair out. Took pretty long maybe 2 ish hours but so worth it! If you want beautiful hair at affordable price go here. I paid around $85 for color, lowlights, condition, cut, style. Can't be beat! I've paid more than $200 elsewhere for same. Do the math, come here instead. Parking is validation in the cultural plaza lot.

I have no idea why my week is bad, or how bad it actually is. I don't know if this is just an isolated few crummy days, or if this is one week in a long succession of hard months -- or even years.  I don't know if I have told anyone, if there's anything that could fix it or if it's made me rather unpleasant to be around. I do know that I'm  hurting,  stressed, exhausted,  grieving,  frustrated, slightly depressed, kind of lonely, sometimes scared and feel lost. It is coming up on the anniversary of my dads sudden passing and the realization of that sinking feeling Ill never be able to give him that one last hug goodbye.   Still keeping in mind to show myself compassion, go outside and look at the palm trees, look at a drooling baby photo of myself and say that "I am only human in all my imperfections"... My norm hair care is looking up DIY on Youtube and giving myself a blunt chop across a ponytail gathered above my head.  Sometimes would invest in a $10 drug store bottle of hair dye and douse it on like ketchup all over my hair.  Yay me for saving some cash. Uhhhghh,  I need a change, a good harmless change- it could be anything.  Went down to the Chinese cultural plaza (CCP) down the block from work and met Jon at the Jon Ren hair salon.  He is located on the ground floor next to the Wellness Pharmacy.  Nice owner at Dae Han Korean grocers recommend him to me. Tip:CCP has 5 floors of parking in structure. 1 to 2 hours $1 with validation stamp. Not bad at all. Friday around 345pm and as luck would have it he squeezed me in!  Yippiee! Sat in a cushy chair and he tied a cape around my neck.  Jon asked what I wanted done and my mind went blank.  How would I know?  I am not trendy or fashion conscience. Way too many choices and I said " up to you Jon".  I think he is a mind reader and said "Okay"  - let the magic commence...I was done a little before 6pm.  I loved it!  Turned out much better than anything I would pick out for myself.  My hair went from dull confused wires to soft feeling textured movements. HOLY! He gave me highlights and color effects.  OMG the shampoo smelled "happy" and sweet.  That head massage I received was an attitude changer.  My vision went from a shady gray to joyful brightness. BLOND streaks with hints of Auburn reds, warm tones. 10 stars Highly reccomend Jon Ren and his team. Will be coming again to "treat myself". My heart changed to an attitude of thankful praise.  More than anything I could ask for. Thank you Jon for helping me feel like I deserve this,  without a doubt money well spent. ($125)  Check out my before and after pics.

Feeling down and living in a blurry fog for the past few weeks. Needed a change of some kind, any kind. How about a nice haircut? How about some streaky highlights? I can DIY right? Look it up on youtube save some cash by hitting up the drugstore products on sale. Uh, No. Ill wind up making a huge mistake and some ghetto looking blotchy damaged mop on my head. Walked into Jon Ren hair salon but as luck would have it Jon was totally booked. Oh Well? Ill try again tomorrow. Walked out and 30 seconds later a nice lady said she would be happy to help me fix my hair. Who dat? Zip,zip I was in the salon chair getting my hair did. Jon was busy but his sister Ren was kind enough to offer to color my hair. Oh yeah! She is very professional and was really concentrating on making my hair nice. After applying the chemicals she handed me off to Jon. He gave me a fantastic head massage while shampooing and conditioning my hair. I woke up from my fog. Thank you very much! I watched the artist do his magic with the roller brush. Jon does a wicked roller brush like nobody's business! Errrrherrr, mmmmmmmkayyy. My hair has not looked this good in 2 decades. So shiny and soft feeling. I should have went in much sooner. Super happy 10 stars. Check out my before and after picture. $140 well spent. Took about a liitle over 2 hours. Very very happy indeed! Thank you so much Jon and Ren!

Jon Ren Salon. (5 stars). "When you're down and troubled And you need a helping hand And nothing, nothing is going right Close your eyes and think of me And soon I will be there To brighten up even your darkest night." - James Taylor Ironically, I sang this song with Nay at karaoke a few nights before I came here... But the lyrics do hold true! Whenever I need a suggestion or just a day to hang out and gorge myself and hang loose, Nay is always willing to oblige!! Haha she may be getting tired of me, but wait, I'm wicked awesome... Never mind!! :) After eating at Chinatown Kitchen for the first time, I told Nay and the BF that my hair was just getting too long!! Being that we were in Chinatown, I didn't have a clue as to where I would get my haircut. Recently I have been going to a place in Mililani and I still love it there but it was time to cut my hair NOW!! So Nay threw out "Jon Ren" as a place to go. Truth be told, I had only recently started "hanging out" in Chinatown due to my fantabulous friends who I met on Yelp, but was still a little wary. I was at the point of just literally pulling all my hair out so I agreed. Nay brought us to the Chinese Cultural Plaza (the same building that Royal Kitchen and Legends Seafood is in). We walked down the corridor until we came across Jon Ren Salon. I would have never had the guts to just try this Salon on my own, but once again Nay's recommendation was on point! (Just don't tell Nay I admitted to that)!! Nay had to run so she introduced me to Jon and told me, "Everything is going to be ok JanJan. See you later"... and off she went!! My heart started racing as I sat in the "butcher's" chair. But as soon as I spoke with Jon, my fears were relieved! Jon is very personable and knowledgeable and even though I wanted a wicked short haircut, he convinced me to let him do what he felt would match my fat face (I said I have a fat face, not Jon). :) The lady who washed and prepped me for butchering (yes I assimilate myself with the swine... I guess I eat enough of it so as they say... you are what u eat)... was very thorough!! A bit rough for my liking but nonetheless thorough! Once Jon took over, it was a bunch of "snips here, hair falling there"... I just smiled and continued playing on my iPhone while I let the master continue on. At one point, I did get a little nervous because I kept thinking, Jon is working so hard and there is lots of hair on the ground... Hmm, I hope this doesn't cost me too much!!?? Yes, when it comes to hair, I used to go to FS just because it's cheap!! Fast forward to an hour after I had walked in. My haircut was complete, and I love it! It has a simple style and it's wash and go!! I'm a simple human when it comes to my hair!! I was shocked when I got to the register and was told my bill was $27!!?? Wait what!!?? I thought he said $127 which is what I thought it was really going to cost!! The cashier repeated, "$27". Wow... shampoo, haircut, and blow dry for $27??!! OMG Jon Ren Salon where have you been all my life!!?? I'll definitely be back!! Parking is available throughout the multiple Chinatown Municipal Parking lots. Or if you're lucky, street parking! Chinatown Cultural Plaza has a municipal parking lot as well. Business Hours (as of 12/30/2016): M, T, Th, Fri, Sat : 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Wed : 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Sun : 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM I will definitely recommend Jon Ren Salon!! I really liked the way Jon cut my hair so I think I'll stick with Jon! :)

Hair cut and color by John Ren Salon. Based in Chinatown Cultural Plaza, this salon offers various services such as hair styling.

John is very detailed and dedicated in what he does as a hair stylists. I love how he likes to socialize with his customers while giving them their haircut. He's very pleasant to talk to and you talk to the stylist as if he were your best friend. After your haircut, he can be amazed/grateful that he made you look and feel good. John is full of confidence, pride, and dedication. English may not have been his first language, but he's still very fun an pleasant to talk to. Continue cutting hair John, people all love your hard work!

What place would ever receive 4 stars for making you cry, getting your blood drawn, probing, rubbing and painful poking and picking your face to almost red and raw? Jon Ren Salon's facial service deserves all the stars! People that have visited Ren know what I mean. Everyone wants the perfect skin and we all know beauty comes at a cost. Ren's facial is both painful and calming at the same time but she can solve the problems. The results have been amazing. The proof can be seen after about 4 visits (depending on the person's skin). I've returned monthly to maintain clean and glowing skin. I would spend the money on maintaining a healthy skin than buying extra products to cover the blemishes and other problems. Each visit lasts about an hour and the facial includes a deep clean, painful extractions, soothing mud mask and neck/shoulder massage. She offers other services too and her prices are very reasonable. I'm willing to pay for the pain in order to gain happy skin!

    Straight perm + haircut
    Erica W.

Came in for a straight perm (Bio Ionic) treatment. Price starts at $150+. I have LOTS of thick, long hair so the process took 4 hours total. The older Chinese man cut my hair (he had a more rough style of cutting hair). I asked for layers and a trim... not the best haircut. He does a lot of razoring and thinning. Location: 1st level of Chinese Cultural Plaza. Parking: Validation. 4-6 hours is $4 with validation. The process of straight perm goes as follows : 1. He cuts hair to approximate length that you want. 2. Applies relaxer cream to hair in 1/4" sections throughout hair. Very tedious process. The cream also smells NOXIOUS. But you get used to it... hopefully. 3. Heat hair under steamer for 1 hour. Worst part for me. I hated the heat. 4. Rinse hair. Best part. 5. Blow dry hair. Straighten hair with straightneing iron in 1/4" sections. 6. Applies neutralizer cream to entir3 head. Wait for about 20 mins. 7. Rinse hair. Condition hair. 8. Blow dry hair. Cut and style. Dont wash hair or wet hair for 72 hours after. Dont tie hair or place hair behind ears for 72 hours. Pro tip: Bring snacks, food and drinks. Also, i took bathroom break after step 5.

I have been going to this Salon for over 10 years. I originally went because I was going to Dim Sum in the area, and everyone who came out looked wonderful. When I looked into the salon, I liked the haircuts of the stylist! I do not speak Chinese, I'm from Boston originally. I paid twice the price at other salons, and though I occasionally tried other places, my heart belongs to Jon Ren Salon. Jon has styled and colored my hair many times, but that is only when Sam is on vacation visiting family. Sam is the stylist that has touched my heart like family. I even send this salon annual Christmas cards, and I don't normally include businesses, they are the only one! I always love the color, cut, extra conditioner, and overall the sense of family and belonging even though we are from different cultures. I lost all my hair during chemotherapy, and Sam has managed to help me create my new short hair self. I feel loved and appreciative for having met this family business, who I can now say is part of my family, in my heart.

I lovE my New hair color by Nick!

I usually go to him for both my haircuts and balayage, and every single time I leave loving how my hair turns out. His skills are truly top tier compared to other stylists on the island. I tried several hair stylists around Oahu before finding him, and none of them compared. Dee is incredibly talented, but what I appreciate most is his honesty. He'll always tell you what will actually look best for you rather than just doing something trendy that may not suit you. His salon is also absolutely adorable. The space has beautiful pink décor with gold accents that gives it such a warm, stylish vibe (definitely feels like his wife's aesthetic!). Both Dee and his wife are so sweet and welcoming, and their energy makes you feel like more than just a client -- it makes you want to keep coming back long-term. For anyone trying to find the salon: it's located on the 10th floor of the Ala Moana Center office building. The entrance is directly across from Genki Sushi inside the mall, which makes it really easy to locate once you know where to go. Most importantly, I trust Dee completely with my hair. That's why I don't go to any other hair artists or stylists on Oahu. He genuinely cares about his clients and about the quality of his work. He takes pride in his art and never wants you to leave disappointed. On top of that, he's a great conversationalist -- and I say that as someone who is naturally pretty introverted. Every appointment feels like catching up with a friend. Dee is also someone who carries a lot of wisdom, and seeing him always feels like a breath of fresh air. If you're looking for someone you can truly trust with your hair, Dee is it.
