The doctor who treated my mom was one of the best doctors we ever had. He amputated her toes because of gangrene and took excellent care of her throughout her treatment. After a long time, I recently returned to his office in Berkeley and asked the front desk about him. They told me that he passed away last year. I was truly shocked and saddened to hear the news. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. May he rest in peace. We will always be grateful for the care and compassion he showed my mother. read more

Sadly, I've just learned that Dr. Seslar has passed away. He was instrumental over the years in treating my various foot problems (surgery, orthotics, general consultation) so that I could continue the outdoor activities I so enjoyed. I always enjoyed talking to him during our consultations - he was patient, skilled, and had a good sense of humor. A severely disturbed individual. I took my 13 year old to see him almost 2 months ago for his chronic ingrown toenails. He started describing in absolute detail how he would pull out the nails from my sons toes. My son was horrified and didnt want to do it that day. After I explained in detail everything that occurred, our pediatrician was shocked and tried a referral for a different specialist. Unfortunately, our insurance denied any other doctor. Two weeks ago, I called and scheduled the in office surgery procedure which would be spraying the freezing agent, numbing with local anesthetic and clipping and removing the sides of his toe nails. When we arrived, he had no idea why we were there and hadn't bothered to check his file and appointments. I explained that we'd seen him not too long ago and he'd suggested this procedure. He then asks me, "what exactly do you want me to do?" I replied with, "you're the doctor and you told me what should be done and thats what we're here." He then grabbed this giant clippers, without asking me anything started cleaning my sons toes with alcohol and was going to start clipping the sides of his nails to curve as he said. I yelled and demanded that he use something to numb it a bit as my children sat it horror. He laughed at me, sprayed my sons toe and started clipping. I was so horrified that I started getting dizzy, started sweating and my ears started ringing and I felt faint. He laughed at my condition.. Let me say that I'm no wussy, I have three kids that are now teenagers and have our fare share of getting hurt, bleeding, stitches and surgeries. Seeing a "professional" want to do something like this without ethically ensuring his comfort and making it as pain free as possible is monstrous. ...... After, he just walked out without saying anything to us. Absolutely shocking. Hours later, I'm still in shock. Forget what our insurance company says, I'm going to wait until he's healed and pay out of pocket to have the full procedure done humanely. P.S. the Receptionist is a sweetheart. read more

I am writing this review after having been skeptical of podiatrists in general and visited no fewer than four before making choosing Dr Seslar. I needed foot surgery to realign my bones which involved inserting two pins. If it didn't work out well, I'd be pretty bummed for the rest of my life (!). Don't let his low key nature fool you - he is absolutely on his game. He told me exactly what we could do, explained it all in understandable terms, offered me all options, and came up with just the right plan. The operation went perfectly and so did the recovery. No problems whatsoever, and he was always there to address any concerns. The guy is terrific and I'm forever grateful that I chose him. read more

I have read other posts and honestly I have to laugh at the selfish unrealistic insanity. Who can go into surgery and expect any doctor to be a God or for that matter fix something to be back as "original" prior to its damage?... feet that have had years of abuse, or wear OR injury that a doctor has no control over; A doctor's experience can ONLY help or correct as much as life will allow or a body will allow. And a doctor once you go home to recoup cannot control the lack of ones personal attention or the lack of following after-care instructions. With that said... I have to say, I've had the BEST experience with Dr. Seslar. I found him to be exceptionally talented in this area of medicine, and the passion he shows and kind bedside manner made me feel at ease. I had the absolute worst bone spur in my big right toe. It was so painful and I couldn't wear normal shoes for the last several years. Life was miserable and painful. If you can't walk, you can't live. The care I received from Dr. Seslar, his surgery team & office staff has been absolutely incredible!! I have a very small scar which I can barely see, my recovery was exactly as he described and went flawlessly. I now have FULL function and motion of my toe (it was almost frozen in place & would make pop/crack sounds if I tried to walk moving the tie prior to my surgery), his office is easy to access and plenty of parking too. I saw my "post" surgery x-ray pics and HOLY COW!... it looks like the other toe now - totally normal as if I never had a massive bone spur between my toe joint. I will be very honest... I went in having this surgery knowing my toe & bones there wouldn't be like new and they'd never be perfect; I knew everyone had different issues and heal at different paces, I also know that not everyone takes proper care of themselves post-surgery - we all will heal differently. I went in having an open mind and a positive attitude. I BEGGED Dr Seslar for this surgery to put me on the schedule as soon as there was a spot for me. I'm a realistic person. My toe will never be as I was born with it... I'm 55... but my toe functions now, I can wear a shoe, I had major & detailed surgery on my toe.... I'm so blessed & happy I found Dr. Seslar, my shoes & heels fit great, and I can wear whatever I want now! Dr. Seslar helped in identifying the source of my foot pain resulting from a motorcycle accident. He was very kind and friendly and seemed very knowledgeable. After waiting a couple months to see if the issue would resolve on it's own, he addressed the issue with an out patient surgical procedure. The surgical procedure was a little scary, but he was very supportive and his skill was very clear in terms of the short time required for surgery and for healing afterward. Dr. Seslar has talent!! His office is clean and the receptionist is very kind. My foot had a callus that made walking unbearable. I visited my podiatrist who simply scrapped away at the core and sent me home saying that I could come back as much as needed. She mentioned that I gave myself plantar fasciitis and heel spurs since I was not putting weight on my callus as I walked daily. This was not my first visit to her and I clearly needed a professional to assess me, so I asked her to refer me to one. Reluctantly she submitted my referral. The very next day my foot was in pain again! Unfortunately, my podiatrist was a month out for a new visit. That same week, my referral came through and I contacted the Dr. Seslar's office. I was scheduled that next day. He spoke to me with compassion, x-ray'd my foot, and instructed me to purchase an over the counter medicine for treatment. I did and one week later I felt much much better. Callus is gone! Sure we discussed an optional method of him cutting the callus core out but I was assured that wart removal pads would be sufficient. AND IT WAS!! I feel blessed for having met him. read more

I came to Dr. Seslar with bone spurs in my big toe. We scheduled surgery and I came back a few days afterwards for a followup and then scheduled another followup for a month out. When I came back in a month he looked at my toe and started pulling the stitches out. THEN! he opened his laptop and said, "Oh! I thought it's been two months..." That was about three years ago and I STILL have pain around the incision site where the stitches SHOULD HAVE stayed in for another month. Too late now for me, but hopefully not for you! Find a podiatric SURGEON to do surgery, not just a DPM. read more

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with Dr Seslar. He is a friendly individual, but was not a good listener. I was very clear that I was experiencing a lot of pain in my right heel and ankle. But, even after he looked at X-rays taken at an urgent care facility, saw a bone spur protruding into fresh, and the accompanying swelling he did not consider my discomfort. He did not order an MRI, but instead recommended an ankle brace to see if that would reduce the swelling. Then he said to come back and see him in six weeks. He did not talk about icing the area or even using otc ibuprofen. I was disappointed in what appeared to me to be disinterest on his part. I went to see another recommended podiatrist who immediately ordered an MRI after viewing the X-rays. The MRI indicates a torn Achilles' tendon. In two weeks the spur will be removed and the tendon repaired. read more

I came to Dr. Seslar with 2 broken toes. I had already been to urgent care a week before; they had taken x-rays and sent them to a radiologist who identified the two fractures. The urgent care people gave me a special shoe to wear and told me to see an orthopedist in a week. Dr. Seslar was great. I called a bunch of orthopedists looking for someone who could see me. Few of them even called me back. His office called me back the same day and even squeezed me in that same afternoon. Although x-rays had been taken by the urgent care people, Dr. Seslar insisted on taking his own to confirm the fractures. He assured me that the break wasn't close to the joint and that it would heal fine as long as I wore the shoe and didn't bump them on anything. He also taught me how to properly "buddy tape" my toes and gave me the roll of tape so I wouldn't have to go buy one. He told me to come back in 3 weeks so he could make sure my toes were healing properly. I returned ~3 weeks later and he took a new set of x-rays. He let me see my own x-rays, showed me where the bones had already fused together, and said I could stop wearing the shoe. Although my case wasn't that complicated, I had a very good experience with Dr. Seslar and definitely recommend him to anyone needing this kind of doctor. He's a very nice and personable person and was patient with all my questions. There is available parking right next to his facility (DON'T park in the hospital lot! There's a lot to the left of his building that's much cheaper). I'm referring to the one at 3000 Colby street in Berkeley. He accepted my insurance. Paying was very straightforward. read more

Friendly, decent waiting time, and I felt like he actually listened to what I had to say. He took an X-ray on the spot when the one I had gotten had failed to make it to his office. He was able to give me a plausible explanation for the foot pain I have been experiencing daily for two years, while several other doctors told me there was nothing wrong with my foot despite my complaints of pain. He gave me some moleskin pads to wear on the soles of my shoes for extra support and it's helped alleviate the pain to some extent. May revisit him soon to discuss surgery. read more
