She does seem to be kind but after my last visit on 9/30, I'm not sure I'll ever go back again and I won't recommend her to anyone. She cut me with the scalpel when she was supposed to be cutting back a callus on my left toe and she went too deep. She ended up causing me so much pain that I now have to endure for the next 3-4 weeks and it's so much more painful than when I went to see her. I'm so angry because I walk all day at work and then on the treadmill at home and it now hurts like hell. And she'll get paid for hurting me. Called the office and they were not at all responsive... Put a bandaid on it was all the receptionist said with antibiotic cream!! I can't put a bandaid there because of the location so no that's not really helpful!! And she was flippant about it like it was not a big deal. WELL IT IS A BIG DEAL!! I also got orthotics from her earlier that cost me $425 out of pocket and now she told me not to wear them cause they hurt. I may take her to small claims court for that so maybe I can get my money back!! read more

She is at the large 2999 Regent St. medical building. If you are willing to pay for parking then just park in the garage downstairs. If not - no problemo - just park on the residential street behind the building. Always a space. (3) Generous with time. Dr. Miyazaki spent quite a bit of time with me. This office was great about communicating with me BEFORE my visit. But once I had the insoles they ordered for them, and called to say that $400+ later they were NO BETTER THAN OVER THE COUNTER INSOLES , they never returned my phone calls. I saw a different podiatrist for a year who wasn't helping my ingrown toenails. It was causing me a lot of pain and embarrassment, then bad anxiety because the procedures from the other podiatrist really hurt and didn't help. Dr. Miyazaki's podiatry office was the turning point for me while I healed from a fractured sesamoid / sesamoiditis injury. Her office was always wonderful to visit. All of the staff were organized, professional, calm and friendly. I found her through the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. Doctors with a background in sports medicine will usually recommend conservative treatment before resorting to an expensive surgery. The first podiatrist told me to 'walk on my heel' and rushed out of the room. The second podiatrist told me to think about a sesamoidectomy and rushed out of the room. Neither of which were good ideas. I later found out that the sesamoid plays a vital role in the biomechanics of walking. Removing it can cause a cascade of problems up the body. Dr. Miyazaki gave me a third opinion on my MRI. She did not rush out of the room. She was present, open and patient, even as I asked her many questions and showed her my diy shoe inserts. Most importantly, she gave me confidence and guidance at the most anxious part of the injury. She told me I was on a good trajectory which allowed my mind to settle down and focus on healing. If you're reading this with a sesamoid injury, read on for what worked for me. - A wheelchair to stay symmetrical and keep weight off my feet for two months. - Acupuncture for the neuropathy (nerve tingling) that developed from walking asymmetrically in a surgical boot for a month. - Good shoes. Tall toe box that don't pinch the sesamoid. Wide toe box, to allow those toes to wiggle. Rigid sole, to keep the toe from bending. Cushion, to soften impact. Hoka rocker shoes worked for me. - Custom orthotics in the shoes, that kept me at a 0-2 pain level. - Contrast bathing (hot & cold baths) twice a day to reduce inflammation - Good diet - Caroline Jordan's Hurt Foot Fitness videos. Saved my mental and physical health while I could not walk. - A lot of patience. I am so grateful to be on the other side of this injury. I hope this review finds those that have the same problem. I can't recommend Dr. Miyazaki enough! She is a rare doctor. I am sure she would approach any foot injury with the same patience, presence and open mind, and inspire confidence in the patient. Dr. Miyazaki is amazing! My son hurt his foot while in the Peace Corp in the Dominican Republic just before the holidays. He came home to visit us, so I wanted to get a second opinion while he is here. Dr. Miyazaki found a fracture the previous doctors had missed. She made herself available by phone Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for phone consultations and ever referred us to her colleague, Dr. Jon Seslar for a third opinion as to what should be done. She was on holiday vacation all through this process. This level of service all for less than $150. You don't get this kind of service usually at any price, but (for this price) it is absolutely amazing. read more

Dr. Miyazaki is a First Class podiatrist, by every measure. Recently, I called to request an appointment with her because of a severe injury to a toenail. The office receptionist to whom I spoke listened attentively as I explained my situation, then graciously assured me that Dr. Miyazaki would see me during her next clinic day. She cautioned that I might have to remain for awhile in the waiting room, because Dr. Miyazaki's time had already been fully scheduled with other patient appointments. Meeting Dr. Miyazaki for the first time, I immediately sensed that she was going to care for ME -- in other words, that to her, I wasn't just "the afternoon toe injury," but rather a person experiencing pain and in need of her help. Before examining my injury, she studied my health history paperwork, then listened attentively to me as I described the circumstances of my toe injury. Her interactions with me felt more like those of a caring friend than a busy physician. She said that because of the trauma to my large toe, she would need to remove the nail, to allow the nail bed to heal properly. She then very slowly and carefully injected a local anesthetic. She worked so gently that I felt not even the slightest discomfort. To me, the whole numbing process was remarkable because of how friends had described the sometimes extreme discomfort they experienced during the injection of the anesthetic -- because the doctor was either unskilled, impatient or uncaring. Dr. Miyazaki was none of those things. She left the room to attend to another patient while the anesthetic's numbing effect spread throughout the entire toe. Several minutes later, she returned to the room and proceeded to remove the injured nail -- a completely painless process lasting no more than a few seconds -- and finally to bandage the exposed nail bed. She recommended that I wear sandals for the next couple of weeks, and soak my foot in warm water at least once every day. Her assistant gave me a sheet describing at-home care for the affected foot, and how the healing should progress. I have had two primary objectives in mind as I share this: first, I hope to convey my own, most favorable impression of Dr. Miyazaki, both as a person and as a physician. Secondly, in case you are suffering from a health condition or traumatic injury affecting your foot, and wondering whether or not to seek Dr. Miyazaki's help, I would like to assure you that being treated by this person will leave you feeling immensely grateful, since a very good friend has just done her best to help you heal. read more

I just saw Dr. Miyazaki yesterday when she fit me in on short notice, and she and her staff were wonderful! Kind, caring, and skillful. I'm chemically sensitive (from the toxic products that most people use) and she was very aware of this health risk and agreed about the harm and she and her office is as safe as could be expected. I'm spreading the word on lists for people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. The first thing she did was check my pulses. Then she asked if it was okay before giving me local anesthetic and alcohol on the wound, which I greatly appreciated. Then she expertly cut the toenail that I'd been unable to cut off myself that had been digging into my toe for over two weeks. After being so worried, this was almost fun! read more

The office is located in a professional building across the street from the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, on the first floor and entirely wheelchair accessible. Prices are listed on the website, their billing can be a little slow due to the circuitous nature of insurance. The office accepts Medicare, most PPOs--they're not an HMO contractor and not a worker's comp practice. Parking is available across the street at the Alta Bates garage, there's some metered street parking. If you're public transporting it, there's a free Alta Bates shuttle from the MacArthur BART station every 20 minutes (4:30am-9pm). read more

In the past 8 years of running, I've been to 3-4 podiatrists, primarily for orthotics and various injuries, and before working with Dr. Miyazaki, I was pretty wary of the entire occupation. Most of them weren't actually listening or charged for expensive tests over and over again for no apparent reason, and my two pairs of useless orthotics speak to my overall frustration. My friend recommended Dr. Miyazaki who is one of the best providers I have ever encountered. She provides diligent care for each individual patient, and when I left my appointment, I felt that she understood my entire problem and delivered a viable treatment that still fit within my lifestyle. I could not be more happy with the entire staff in Dr. Miyazaki's office. My Cal son had to have a very painful and stubborn ingrown toenail dealt with and the receptionist was so caring and worked hard to find a place for him in the schedule so that my son wouldn't have to miss classes. I told her that he is a gentle soul and would probably be scared, and she said not to worry. Well, she was right! I came to Dr. Miyazaki through a referral by a good friend. I've seen other podiatrists and they will quickly write you off and suggest an orthotic. I always had foot pain especially when sprinting and intense jumping (playing basketball). To make things worse it looked like I was developing a bunion. After my initial visit with Dr. Miyazki she pin pointed what was causing my pain and explained how it got to the current state. It turns out that I had a slight fracture in my sesamoid bone coupled with a bunion. My foot doesn't bug me enough to get surgery (yet). I eventually caved and purchased orthotic's from Dr. Miyazaki. She took the time to really customize them for my foot and wouldn't stop until she knew I was very comfortable wearing them daily. I wouldn't say my foot pain has completely gone away but it's definitely much better with the orthotics. She's also educated me on the types of running shoes which will work for my foot. I've never left Dr. Miyazaki's office and thought that was a waste of money (which is true for a lot of medical services). read more

I saw her last year about surgery I still need for a foot disorder that presents like a bunion. we were going to do it then, but a hiccup in my coverage prevented that & compelled me to put it off to this year. with my coverage now ironed out, I was excited to finally get this done. I called at the beginning of Nov & asked if it would still be possible to calender this before years end in anticipation of likely coming changes to my coverage. her more kindly & sociable assistant had initially voiced some concern about possible conflicts with the doctors holiday plans, but was ultimately happy to schedule me for a visit on Dec 4, with the surgery set for Dec 28. for what it's worth, I've recently had a physical & everything appeared to look good. this week, I got a call from her office to inquire if I smoked, a detail I'm certain was among the questions I answered when I gave her my medical information last year. it's something I'm still working to manage with my doctor's help & I was honest about that only to be told that, lo & behold, SHE consequently CAN'T perform the surgery on my Foot... she WAS, nevertheless, quite happy to provide a referral to some other doctor. which I find strange & rather unscrupulous for . reasons such as were it a simple fact that my history of tobacco use (which blessedly has yet to cause me other issues to date) disqualifies me as a safe candidate for this type of surgery, why then would it be okay for the next doctor to "risk" performing? and yet, she DIDN'T advise me against the surgery consequent to having smoked, nor even suggest the possibility of a legitimate risk to me I might be prudent to consider before undergoing said surgery. she also neglected to explain how the facts of my history nevertheless make this surgery less of an issue for this OTHER doctor. all things considered, I regret it's rather shamefully apparent she simply elected to pawn me off onto another (unknown, male) doctor who's utterly unfamiliar with my case. she was furthermore thoughtless enough to wait weeks to do it, despite being fully informed that the reason it was so important to me that it be done IN ADVANCE OF the new year WAS (as it REMAINS) that I have no assurance I'll be able to afford it thereafter, given aforementioned changes to my coverage that I anticipate. so she didn't MERELY inconvenience me. despicable as it is, she DID so in such a way she was aware would conflict with my coverage & likely result in me ultimately being UNABLE to have surgery at ALL by not informing me of her plan to cancel until mere days before Thanksgiving, thereby leaving precious little opportunity to attempt such a last minute scheduling with anyone ELSE, were it even possible. WORSE yet, she did this for reasons she failed to specify which I therefore suspect MAY very well be nothing more serious than the distinct probability that the Dec 28 date she gave me ultimately proved too inconvenient for her to actually HONOR. read more

Less than five months after surgery, I climbed to the top of a 9,273 foot mountain. 3.5 miles one way with 2700 foot elevation climb, in 8 inches of freshly fallen snow. We were the only people on the mountain all day. Best hike ever, and my surgically repaired foot felt better at the end than the other one! Also, just this week I am able to be a nimble as I used to be on the Table Tennis court. It is amazing to not be limping with every step I take. People were actually clapping for some of my shots in my last match. I am now able to pivot without pain, so looks like Argentine Tango is next on my comeback list. Dr. Miyazaki has done some masterful work for me, and has given me the ability to exercise in fun ways again! I cannot recommend her highly enough! She is attentive, sweet, thoughtful, and a meticulous surgeon. What more could you want from a foot doctor? read more

This is the second podiatrist I saw for a very sore left pinky toe. Dr Miyazaki examined the toe & said I had Raymaud syndrome, even though only one toe & no fingers were involved. Also it's summer time. The doctor needed to ask me to see my PCP, or ask me to get an ex-ray. This was many months ago. I have been in much pain for over 9 months. I rec'd an ex-ray today. I have a broken toe. I will have to have the toe taped to the toe next to it with a splint, plus a boot for several weeks. If I'd had the ex-ray months ago, I could have avoided all this pain & been over this by this by now. read more

Dr. Miyazaki has cared for my 94 year old mother for several years. She was very nice and did a fine job until our last visit. She decided to cut off the callous on the top of my mother's second toe, which had become a hammer toe and was rubbing on the top of her shoe. She offered no antibiotics. We modified my mother's shoes so there was no more rubbing. We have no idea why she decided to remove the callous in the first place, didn't consider the risk of infection in a 94 year old woman's foot, and offered no short-term follow up. The toe became infected, which cleared up after a round of antibiotics. Then three months later it became infected again, which again we cleared up with antibiotics. We will not be back. She's great at keeping her nails in good shape but beyond that I wouldn't use her services. read more

Dr. Yuko is super nice and is very competent. Most importantly, I was in and out of her office within less then 20-30 minutes. She didn't have me waiting around but the time she spent was really relevant to my conditions and I didn't even think about that as part of my annual check up. So she really added a lot of value to my visit which was just to check on some callouses on my feet and how to deal with them. It was reassuring to know my feet are in very good shape otherwise. She was very comprehensive in her prognosis, and I left very satisfied with her as one of my providers going forward. I most definitely recommend her as a Podiatrist or DPM. I've started having a blister on the outside of one of my big toes. This last time it actually turned black and being diabetic was concerned. My primary care doctor explained it was actually a hematoma and that it should eventually be absorbed back into the body. But she gave me a few recommended specialists as it was a continued concern while trying to get enough walking exercise, especially these days under stay at home. So I chose Dr. Miyazaki from other reviews and her website. I was very happy I did as I now have a trusted podiatrist right in Berkeley. It was easy to make an appointment and her office staff were all very friendly and efficient. Dr. Miyazaki was able to quickly determine that she could remove what was now a hardened bump but even before that she was explain to explain the precise cause, something I never thought of as I thought the problem was perhaps different sized foot for wearing sandals and doing some walking in the sun or some extra problem in circulation given diabetes and circulation at that spot. She explained the problem was walking with my right foot not aligned straight ahead but out at an angle that then causes an unintended clash of the sandal (or one time shoe) with the outside natural curve of the big toe. She said I needed to stretch before walking so the hip is not pulling that foot out and then explained some other observations about my lower leg and foot. My experience with the doctor and her staff was perfect and I now have a podiatrist to see for any problems, something I had neglected to find after my previous podiatrist retired. Also, the Covid-19 situation was handled perfectly too for safe use of their office given other patients and staff. read more

I was not disappointed by her professionalism but can't give 5 stars based on her office's billing performance. No delays, just inaccurate with discrepancies between what is stated on mailed statements and what they show in their system at the office.
