Jolly Sailing! OMG what an experience. Captain Max was very professional and punctual. He's not only a highly skilled sailor, but also a fantastic host. We had the best panoramic view of Long Beach on such a gorgeous day. Highly recommend booking with Jolly Sailing!

Captain Max was a great host on his beautiful sailboat. As a first time "sailor" Max was very patient with all of my questions. He pointed out some great sights that I wouldn't see from shore. The 2-hour sailing tour was on a beautiful day and was a relaxing way to see Long Beach Harbor. If you are in the Long Beach area, schedule your adventure with Max, he will take good care of you.

Booked Max's boat for a birthday and had a great time. We are lightweights in terms of sea sickness, but Max was quick to help us out the best he could to make us feel comfortable. Sea sickness aside...We still had a great time and we'd highly recommend you book his boat. It rules to be out in the water and see Long Beach from a different view. Also...if you skate, max has some great stories about skateboarding!

I can't express how great our experience was. I was proposing to my girlfriend and Captain Roger set it up great. He was absolutely wonderful and very knowledgeable. He met us at the gate with a smile and that smile never left. He was always asking if there was anything we needed. The sailboat was an awesome experience and well maintained. At the end we met the owners and they were absolutely delightful and even asked if she said yes (side note she said yes ). We absolutely recommend Jolly sailing and if you can request a captain don't hesitate to ask for Captain Roger.

My wife got me a sailing experience for our anniversary last year and we were finally able to take the trip this weekend. Great experience! Max is fun and knowledgeable about sailing the the local area. His boat is clean and comfortable and my wife, son and I took turns navigating the boat while under Max's supervision. I highly recommend this experience to seasoned sailor or novices. I do suggest arriving early for parking on the weekends. We went on Mother's Day and we had to park quite a bit away. Luckily, we still got a full sailing experience.

Our bachelorette crew spent four days traveling all along the coast of California, and this sailing experience was hands down the best part of our trip. (I waited until the end of our trip to make sure this would ring true.) Max, our Captain, was so welcoming and considerate when it came to personalizing the ride. We were able to bring our own food and drinks and for the things we forgot, Max offered them instantly! Such a relaxing experience yet still so enjoyable. If and when we find ourselves in the area again, we are definitely looking forward to sailing again!

I booked a trip with Jolly Sailing for 4 and went out on the water with my boyfriend and grandparents! We had the best time and Max was a great captain. So knowledgeable about the area, nice to chat with, and let my grandpa help steer a bit who used to go sailing all the time. It was a lovely and nostalgic trip for us. Me and my fiancé had so much fun it was so peaceful and romantic just sitting in the front eating our sandwiches also thank you for letting me play my playlist :) I took my fiancé for his birthday cause he loves the water but I normally get sea sick but max did a great job I didn't get sea sick at all , he placed blankets and pillows for us which was a plus to just relax and lay down and hear the ocean and have the sun hit our faces . It was great weather not to hot not to cold .From beginning to end it was a 10/10 our first sail boat and my fiancé loved it . Thank you again max we will definitely be seeing you again

If I could give Max and Jolly Sailing 10 stars I would. Not only was Max the most kind, accommodating and professional Captain to our very special sailing outing, he chose the coolest place for us to anchor, have our lunch and take countless photos. Captain Max.....has set the bar extremely high! He was able to arrange a sail for us LAST MINUTE!! It was such a beautiful day, and we needed an activity to do. (I mean....why waste a day off?!?!) My made a call and within 2 hours we were out to sea. The captain was kind, personable, professional. He's genuinely a nice guy. If you're in the LBC area....BOOK HIM!! It's an experience.

Go sailing with Max. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200, just book it. Don't waste your time reading any more Yelp reviews trying to find a better deal (there isn't one) or a nicer captain and host (there isn't one*). We were in Long Beach for work and decided to stay an extra day after a grueling 10-hour meeting. I booked a sunset outing as a surprise for my wife (then told her about it, ruining the surprise), and it couldn't have been more perfect. Peaceful water in the protected harbor of Long Beach, great wind, sea lions and sea ducks and allegedly a dolphin, lots of interesting sights and activity... just a perfect day, and Max was a perfect host. Laid back and a lot of fun to spend a couple of hours on the water with, relaxing and seeing the sights. Go! * This point bears repeating. An excursion like this costs three times as much in New York. Seriously. - in choppy water churned up by ferries blasting past. The water in Long Beach was like glass and felt like sailing on a lake. If you don't go, you are missing out. read more

This was my second time riding with Jolly Sailing and had a great time! Today we celebrated my sisters birthday. Max is super friendly, hospitable and professional. This was my first time on a sailboat and I had THE BEST time. Max was super friendly and accommodating and made my friend's 30th birthday super special (with a hand painted sign and all!) We were able to bring our own food and drinks and he had a cooler waiting for our use. He let me steer the boat and legit gave me a mini sailing lesson. I may have found a new hobby! Went sailing with Max last Sunday for a girlfriend's birthday. We had such a good time!!! Max is an experienced sailor and was very knowledgeable about sea conditions & controlling the boat. This is a perfect, intimate sailing excursion for a private party for a small group of people! You can bring food & drinks on the boat & there is a portable table for outside or you can sit inside the boat. The boat ride of the Long Beach harbor was so pretty & calm! Will definitely rent this boat again!!! read more

Max is a highly accomplished and fun captain. We went on a 3 hour sail with him and loved every minute on the beautiful water and the fascinating views. You pass by the lighthouse, some unspoiled and charming tiny islands, sea lions basking in the sun, and the great Queen Mary ship. What's not to love about this experience!! read more

Max is an amazing Captain! He was so accommodating, informative and fun! Celebrated a dear friend's birthday and it was an amazing evening where weather was perfection! We had a sunset ride where we docked for a bit to have some splashing fun and it was absolute bliss. Max let me give the steering a try and it was just fun all around! What an experience! Captain Max was beyond amazing. Max was waiting for us with a huge smile and great energy upon arrival. That made things super easy as we didn't have to worry about trying to figure out where to go. Max even brought ice to keep out champagne chilled and had champagne flutes available for our use to top things off. I can't rave enough about Capt. Max and our time out sailing! I booked a private sunset sailing with Max for my husband's birthday and everything was wonderful :) Max replies promptly on emails, super friendly. His boat is amazingly clean, new and beautiful. He also helped us taking all these stunning sunset pictures. We enjoyed so much, just chilling on the boat! Max was an amazing host, he's a confident captain and you'll feel in very capable hands the entire time. Plus, he has all sorts of amenities (like pillows, Bluetooth speaker) to offer. It was obvious he really cared that we had a fun and comfortable time! We even tied the boat up next to a small island where it was warm enough to jump in and go for a swim! What a wonderful time . The boat is beautiful and clean. Captain Max put us all at ease , I learned a little bit about boat itself and sailing rules. Book book book your trip now! This was soooo much fun. We saw dolphins and sea lions. It was just so nice to be out in the water. Max is super friendly. The boat was super clean and is beautiful. They even put up a happy birthday banner when they knew it was my husband's bday. We brought dinks and food and played our music and it was fantastic. read more

Went sailing on father's day with my family and has a wonderful time! Max was great to have on the boat, super friendly, and was very attentive to all of our needs. It got a little cold and he provided blankets. The boat was well kept and had comfy pillows. The whole experience was great and I'd highly recommend! read more

This was the BEST experience! I would give 6 stars if it allowed haha. We took our sisters on this for one of our sister's Bachelorette party and it was everything we could have hoped for and more! They had everything perfectly timed and had everything we needed down to needing a hair tie for the wind haha. Max was so much fun and pleasant and I couldn't be happier with the experience! We had an amazing experience! From the start, Max was so accommodating on the phone by working with our schedule. Booking the trip was a breeze and the instructions were easy to follow. We wanted a daytime charter since we were missing the sun. My kids and I have been spending summer '20 at home, so we were in need of something fun, but safe. Max's private tour was perfect for our family, especially since we didn't have to worry about social distancing. The only thing was that the two hours went by too quickly. We are definitely looking forward to booking a longer trip later this summer. read more

The captain made this experience so amazing for the first and second time we were on the water! The experience started off great with a quick response of prices and times available. We made a same day reservation and he was able to squeeze us in on a whim. He reached out to see if we were planning anything special or just wanting to enjoy the breeze. That meant a lot and started the sail off just right. We are out of towners and the captain also informed us about beautiful trails, beaches, and yummy restaurants in the area. By the end of our first sail we knew we would be coming back at least once a month for this awesome experience again. We extended our trip a few days and we decided to sail one more time before we left SoCal to give it a proper goodbye! The captain was able to take us out again and make it another memorable part of our vacation! I highly recommend if you are in the Long Beach area to make a stop by Jolly Sailing to add the cherry on top of a great trip! read more

If you've never sailed before or looking for something romantic, exciting, and memorable, book a session with captain Max! He's super nice and made my experience sailing fun and at times scary! The boat would sometimes tilt over so close to the water that I almost freaked but with Max letting everyone know it was ok I felt more at ease. He allowed me to participate in pulling the sale and walk to the front of the boat. I got too scared and stayed put though. I went with 3 friends to venture out and see one of the most beautiful sunsets and to top it off I got to see some seals just chilling lol I highly recommend this outing! Call and book a day and time! read more

Captain Max is a chill dude from the land down under. We commissioned a 4 person trip with him and he was very pleasant to be around. He taught us about basic sailing techniques and allowed us to climb to the front of the boat so we could reenact the scene from titanic. Sadly, strong winds and bumpy waters prevented us from fooling around too much - I guess this is a good thing. We saw some seals basking in the sun as we were heading back. The beautiful sunset made our trip that much more memorable and peaceful. Overall, I would recommend you giving this place a shot. read more

Those who join Jolly Sailing for a private charter can enjoy a serene afternoon or sunset outing alongside the company of their choice with their favorite libation in hand. When you book and experience with us, you get to hop on board and kick back! Your group won't have to take on navigation duties as our charters include a US Coast Guard certified captain. Captain Max has over 10 years of sailing experience and Captian Mark, who was a Lidos two time national champ, has over 20 years of sailing experience. But our captains are more than experts at their trade, they are also FUN, genuine individuals who make guests feel like they're long-time friends. Jolly Sailing's charters are undertaken on an Ericson 32' which is equipped with helpful amenities such as a bathroom, table, Bluetooth speaker, towels, and a Yeti cooler. Guests are encouraged to bring their own drinks and appetizers and are welcome to dive in for a swim. Though our website lists two-hour charters, we are happy to take folks out for longer adventures. History

Established in 2017.

Captain Max Jolly launched Jolly Sailing after serving as the director of Leeway Sailing Center for ten years. Max races Lido 14's and Catalina 37' sailboats regularly and was a crew member on the first-place vessel, a Santa Cruz 70', in the Newport to Ensenada race in 2015. Max earned both his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Leisure and Recreation Studies and has held his USCG Captain's license for a decade. On the boat, Capt. Jolly takes pride in the hospitality he provides to guests. Passengers have repeatedly shared that they walk away from the charter feeling as though Max is "their friend with a boat"! After several years, Max reached out to his long time friend and Leeway colleage Mark Ryan to assist with captaining charters. Captain Ryan has 28 years of sailing experience. He won the Lido Nationals in 2010 and 2014 and participated in two Ensenada races and one Transpacific Yacht race. Captain Ryan's charter guests enjoy his passion and knowledge of sailing.

Captain Jolly has a Masters in Recreation and is USCG Licenced Captain. His partner, Kayla Jolly is currently pursuing her Masters of Business at CSULB. Running a business together has been an exciting project for the two and together they recently completed the CA Green Business certification process. Sustainability has been an important value for each of them, and they are proud to offer customers an experience that not only thrills, but is also environmentally responsible.

When a company cancels a service, issuing a prompt refund should be straightforward. Unfortunately, that isn't the case here, and it's created unnecessary stress. I would recommend being cautious when booking and confirming their refund policy ahead of time. Hopefully they improve their customer service and how they handle cancellations in the future.

And they're phasing out their most powerful boat, the 75hp, because of too much abuse and the associated high insurance costs. But they still offer the 40hp boat and that has plenty of power, with a top speed of about 20 knots. It comfortably seats 4 people in designated seats, but can fit an extra two people sitting up front sideways on bench seating. I had a great time. I saw seals sunbathing on the buoys, and I even saw dolphins near the first oil rig island by the Queen Mary ship. Of course you can also get a nice close-up view of the Queen Mary itself. You're allowed to go almost to the Seal Beach Municipal Pier, but not quite. 1hr duration is enough if you want to do a quick single lap of the designated ocean area. 2hrs is highly recommend if you want to take your time and not be rushed. Be sure to bring a light jacket, hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the wind and sun. The designated driver is not allowed to drink. I'm not sure if the rest of the guests are allowed to drink. Park near the Yard House restaurant and then walk to the back of the restaurant and you'll see the little hut with the staff in it. If nobody is there then look over the edge to the docked boats because the staff might be down there instead.

Originally, I was going to book with a rental company for Newport Harbor, but then came across a Groupon for PCH Electric Boats. After checking out their website and reading the glowing reviews on Yelp, I immediately booked. I called to book a white duffy boat on the day before Thanksgiving. The person on the phone was friendly, courteous and really easy-going. They asked if I had a Groupon and if I could provide the voucher number. BOOM. done. all set! I received an email with VERY DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS (including photos) of where to park and where the meeting area was. Additionally, a link to the waiver form that every passenger is required to fill out (even your babies) was included in that email. On the day of our booking, we were met by the owner Grant who I'm pretty sure was the same friendly, courteous and easy-going person I talked to on the phone days earlier when I booked. He provided specific instructions on where we're allowed to go and what to avoid. He saw we had several small children in our party and recommended everyone use the restroom nearby before boarding since there is not place to stop out in the harbor. After we came back from our potty break, Grant lead us down to the dock and got all the kiddos fitted for their life vests (all in great condition btw). He assisted us with our bags so we could focus on boarding the kids safely and even took a group photo for us! The boat was clean and easy to drive. The sound system was bumping and all the windows easily lifted up for that nice harbor breeze. It was a beautiful and memorable day. On our return, Grant was at the dock with one of his employees ready to receive us. He guided us in smoothly and as we were gathering our belongings and cleaning up, he helped all the kids out and grabbed our bags. We handed Grant a tip and immediately he passed it over to his employee who was going to do the post-ride cleaning.. what a great boss!!!! Definitely will be booking with PCH Electric Boats again! Check your tide chart before booking or ask them. Nigel's restaurant there seems really fun too crazy use of a space that was just a sidewalk a few years ago. Definitely a great spot to take off from and lots of restaurant options near the dock.

A trick is that if you feel the water is too choppy, start paddling - the water will calm down with the pedaling. There are several boats around which provided live music for us. The bike has two cup holders and a front container to put your phones and small stuff in. We had a great time. They share a parking lot with nearby restaurants which offer 3 hours of free parking. That is a huge plus for something near the beach! We will be back next time to try a glow ride.

My husband and I decided to charter, so instead of booking a tour on a large boat, we found this unique sailing experience with Jolly Sailing. Captain Max is professional, experienced, knowledgeable and fun. I felt safe and cared for. He catered to our desires to learn and gave us a mini immersive lesson. We saw marine life including sea lions, seals, pelicans, a school of dolphins who were fishing and other birds. Captain Max gave us information about the different sail boats out practicing for the Transpac 2019... we saw Disney's Pyewacket, and others. The two hours was fun, breezy and memorable. I am so glad we asked Captain Max to recommend the best time to leave. Our two hour tour left at 5 p.m. which gave us the best winds... prevailing winds. Captain Max and his beautiful sailboat Bushmans Friend were the perfect combination for a wonderful afternoon on the water. Captain Max was friendly, helpful and fun to have as a captain on our sail. He showed us how and allowed us to steer the boat, help with putting up the sail etc, which was exciting for us. He took pictures for us, and did whatever he could to make our jaunt onto the water a memorable one. My boyfriend surprised me with a marriage proposal and a beautiful ring and we couldn't have had a better experience. The boat, captain Max, the water were all perfect. We (my wife and three daughters) celebrated part of my oldest daughters 30th Birthday with Max. He truly made us feel like we had a "friend with a sailboat". He was cognizant of our safety but ensured we had a relaxing and exceptional time. The weather was not the greatest (cloudy and a little rain shower) but because of his experience and personality he made it a "very brilliant" day for all of us, as we took turns at the helm. As someone else said, you can stop searching for the best sailing charter because you just found it. Not only is it the best price you will find, but you also get a super fun captain. Not only fun but safe and the boat was even comfortable. There were Bluetooth speakers, pillows to relax on and a clean bathroom! We got to bring brinks and snacks and enjoy the ride. Flew into LA for work but wanted to get out on the water if I could before work started. Capt. Max was the only one who would accommodate me on same day notice. It was just me and I booked a 2 hour cruise. Weather was great, Capt. Max was thorough in going over the boat nomenclature and allowed me to help out with what experience on a boat I had. I live in Long Beach and I had some family visiting. We needed something to do and my dad always sailed when he was younger so we gave Jolly Sailing a go. Needless to say it was awesome. My Dad was impressed with the boat especially the new sails. Captain Max let him steer 95% of the time. Max was patient, funny, and friendly, providing input when needed and was truly excited to take us out. The price was fair and overall the experience was one to remember. Jolly Sailing was so much fun and the best thing to do in Long Beach! So affordable! This was my second time with Jolly Sailing and it will not be my last. You play your own jams, bring a spread (we went with dips and crackers and fancy cheese and heaps of Rose wine) and your favorite 5 people.
