AMBIENCE Restaurant is situated where Jamba Juice used to be…read moreand it also has a second floor. When we entered, the entire first floor was packed and lines were long for ordering and claiming. The crowd eventually lessened as several minutes went by but there were still a lot of customers. FOOD We tried the 3PC Chicken Tenders and the 1PC Chicken and both had different textures especially on the coating. Tenders were typically good but the Bold BBQ dip was the star flavor in this combo; tasted really good! 1PC had tender white meat and a really thick coating, which tasted good but made the chicken actually look smaller. Biscuit was just as good as before and still somewhat plain, which I totally appreciate. At first, I thought the flavor was infused into the biscuit but turns out you put it in like you would with butter. Our flavor was honey but the experience of placing it in the biscuit was more interesting than the actual flavor. Spaghetti had a sweet and subtly unique taste. Fries had a nice and crispy texture. Among our orders, I still think only about those good and plain biscuits. SERVICE We had to wait quite awhile because there were lots of customers, and one number was called several times sometime before ours. The customer of that number never came and I was able to eventually get our order. I'd like to suggest that they use a TV screen (unless they have one upstairs already) or a pager to call out the number especially for customers upstairs.

So one day, my mom asks: "Hey, you want SEx?"…read more I really didn't know how to respond to the question. So, I just gave her a funny look and then pointed at my daughter. "I guess so?" Sensing how awkward the situation has become, she proceeds to explain that she meant Sinangag Express. Thank God! I'm really not in the mood for a talk about the birds and the bees after four years of marriage and a 3-year-old. Weird situations aside, discovering Sinangag Express and that odd acronym was heaven-sent. Apparently a lot of people call it SEx, so I shouldn't be surprised next time someone asks. I love that I have a go-to place in the middle of the night when the husband comes home from his mid-shift ending at 2am. The meals are pretty decent for the price. I am a fan of their tapsilog. The dish has that classic savory Filipino breakfast staple but they did it in flakes so it's even more flavorful. You can get the egg sunny side up but I usually ask for mine scrambled. Their chorizo is also worth trying. If you're really hungry, you can easily down two meals in one sitting and it won't even cost you as much as some fastfood burgers. They also have cold taho and soy milk which is great for washing down that oily but good breakfast food.

Of all the eating places that are open 24 hours a day along Dona Soledad Avenue in Bicutan,…read moreParanaque City, Sinangag Express seems to be the most popular. It's not only the largest, but also serves sinangag or fried rice-based meals all day. I guess that plenty of people like breakfast, since it's the most important meal of the day, even when it's time for lunch or dinner, or anytime in between. An open air restaurant, Sinangag Express has two floors with plenty of room for diners, whether solo or in groups. It has a pretty eclectic clientele. You can see guys in shorts and t-shirts seated next to office folk in uniforms. All are there to catch a quick meal, particularly during daytime. After office, the clients tend to stay a bit longer. I went there one hot summer noon and it was surprisingly cool inside. There's nothing spectacular about the food at Sinangag Express, but that may be the point. It's just one nice place to have a quick meal with fried rice as the base. It's nice to know that if I ever get hungry at 3am, there's a place where I can have an early breakfast.

A few years ago, we discovered this unassuming eatery tucked-away in a small street in the baranggay when a cousin brought Pinoy-style spaghetti to our annual reunion. Needless to say, it was a hit, not just amongst the kids, but with the adults as well. Their sweet, bright red spaghetti is reminiscent of attending kiddie parties during the time when marshmallows were paired with hotdogs on sticks and stuck onto watermelons or banana trunks. Since then, we've always ordered food-to-share from Aling Lucy's, whether it's their dependable spaghetti or their popular pansit Malabon. I recently just found out they they're actually open 24/7 and decided to dine-in for the first time since patronizing them. After a night of drinking and chatter at a friend's house, we were craving for something to warm our stomachs. We headed to Food Street and our group's ordered a mix of mami and arrozcaldo. I got the arrozcaldo and was delighted that it tasted real - the flavor wasn't too strong, it wasn't salty, the rice wasn't overcooked. It taster like home-cooked arrozcaldo. Now, I don't just knw what to bring to parties, I also know where I can get my arrozcaldo fix - the dependable Aling Lucy's.

A few weeks ago, I discovered that a branch has finally opened in Makati. At the streetside section of Glorietta 2, directly facing Landmark, it's hard to miss the place. What with a conspicuously designed name printed on its glass window and right above the entrance. Finding a seat is also not a problem as the dining area is huge and there are plenty of tables and chairs. I liked Wingstop even before I tasted their food. The reason: Their food choices are few. You'll not be overwhelmed by different options or types of food. Their menu revolves around chicken wings. Since their Makati branch is fairly new, I imagined that customers would take a long time to decide what to order. But it didn't take long for the people ahead of me to finish their transactions at the counter. It could be that everyone had already tried Wingstop and knew what to eat or it could be that 7:00pm is not a good time to eat wings (are you kidding me?). Since I was on my way home, I decided to have my orders in a takeaway bag. I simply wanted to sample their wings so I got a 7-piece order of wings with two flavors - Garlic Parmesan and Louisiana Rub. Both taste great but I liked the Louisiana Rub better because of its sweet and mild spicy flavor.
