    Durable Coatings

We hired Durable Coatings to polish and seal our basement concrete floor, and the results were…read morenothing short of disastrous. We were originally quoted a cost of 8,000 dollars and 2 days duration; 5 weeks later we are out 4,000 dollars and will have to cover the slab with LVP flooring. From the beginning, it was clear this was not a process they were experienced with. Their crew arrived with a handwritten instruction sheet and were unable to answer basic questions such as how long the job would take or how long the floor would need to cure before use. The first attempt left the floor uneven, riddled with imperfections, and nowhere near the examples they had shown us. To their credit, a representative came out and admitted it was not done correctly. Unfortunately, their second attempt was even worse--scratches throughout, heavy surface glazing, and a finish that looked unprofessional and damaged. Durable Coatings then brought in a third-party contractor, who explained the underlying problem: the floor had not been properly cleaned or prepared before sealing. The haziness and irregularity we were seeing was characteristic of the final matte coat being applied to a dirty surface. He also confirmed the floor had already been sanded too aggressively, exposing large amounts of aggregate that would tear out and leave thousands of holes. In short, the floor was beyond repair. Despite two failed attempts over the course of 5 weeks and their own acknowledgment of issues, Durable Coatings refused to take responsibility. Instead, they sent an email highlighting the problems with our slab--which were never previously mentioned--and demanded our only recourse was to pay another contractor our remaining balance plus additional money for "supplies" to attempt a fix or accept the loss of our $4,000 payment. Thankfully, we had not paid the full $8,000 up front as they had originally requested. At this point, the only option left is to cover the ruined surface with LVP flooring as the third party contractor stated point blank that the final product would not be favorable. To be fair, Durable Coatings appears to have more success with epoxy projects, and other customers appear to be satisfied in that area. Anyone considering them for clear concrete finishing should think twice. They do not have the expertise to perform this work, and they do not stand behind their results when they fail. Of note, in 15 years of working with contractors, I have never had to leave a negative review. Despite attempts to contact the owner to mediate the situation, no contact was ever made.

It is most important that you trust who you will be hiring but more importantly who will be installing your product. Over 90% of installations fail from installation errors and less than 10% are related to product failure. We want you to have the confidence that you have selected not only the right company with the best products but the right person that will do your installation right the first time. Yes, our hands are calloused and our work boots are worn but you will see right through that and tell our hearts are genuine and we know what it takes to do your job properly. You will begin to have confidence knowing your consultant is also your installer. This leads to so many positives for you as the stakeholder in the investment for this project.
