Had a little Boston terrier emergency and one vet told me we have SO MANY emergencies today you can drop her off and the vet will check her in between appointments. Say what?? DROP HER OFF. She's not a package she's a sick dog who needed help. The next vet said you are not a client we just saw your dog on a referral, meanwhile my dog needs immediate emergency help. Thank God, and I mean THANK GOD for Johnstown Veterinary Associates on Messenger St. staff Missy and Gabby were SO helpful and knowledgeable. So important in the time of need. The vet Dr Assad was so concerned and his care for my lil dog was as if the dog was his. If they would have turned me away like others who don't accept new patients my lil helpless dog would have not survived another day. What a blessing they were for us today. They were swamped with emergencies etc today and they still found time to help my lil 13 lb Boston. Thank God and thank you Johnstown Veterinary Associates for caring so much. You are the BEST!!!!!!! Although this vet professes to accept pets with urgent needs, not so true!!!! I took my dying cat there on Saturday AM.....diabetic/having seizures. Without the vet looking at him (front desk gal spoke to him) I was told that I needed to take my suffering cat to Pittsburgh and that the office was booked with appointments....no one in the waiting room!!!! I left and came right back to remind the front desk gal about the urgent care statement. This time I was told my cat could not be seen/euthanized because we were not clients!!! We ended up in State College where people who are not part of my community treated my family with nothing but compassion and love!! Unfortunately my cat suffered for many more hours than needed be. The world would be a better place if more people had empathy for others! Sad. read more

After waiting an hour, we left. According to the receptionist. There was a medical emergency and euthanasia. She did not tell us this, but kept saying we were next and we were next on the list. While waiting, numerous pets were seen before us. While waiting.a man with two cats that had been giving boosters had severe side effects. I took my kitty there on May 30th for what Dr kudrick explained was an eye infection. He gave me an antibiotic for it which I finished around the 15th of June. It helped somewhat but my kitty still has the infection. I called the Johnstown vet on Thursday to see what needed to be done next. They suggested that my kitty would probably need another round of antibiotics and that I could go to pick the antibiotic up after they got the okay from Dr. Kudrick. I have called two or three times since then because I haven't heard back from them and today, saturday, I still have not gotten a response from them. Indeed, Maddie at the receptionist desk told me she would call me back last night at the latest to let me know whether I should pick up the antibiotic or not. I am quite upset that I have not heard back from anyone regarding my kitties eye infection. Today they close at 12:00 p.m. and I am hoping against hope that I hear back from them. It has been 48 hours since I first told them the kitty's eyes were still infected. This is absolutely unexcusable. read more

We took our shi tzu there for a cyst on his eyelid. We got Dr. Assad. When he came into the room he didn't even get close to our dog. He looked at his eye from a distance. I guess me telling the nurse he wasn't overly friendly made him a viscous 12lb dog. They said I would have to pay $45 for a exam also that day. Well...HE NEVER EXAMINED HIM!! Didn't look in his ears or mouth, nothing and I got charged for it! Also he knew I didn't want my dog to have any shots besides the rabies..they never gave animals all these shots back in the 1900's. Well he said your dog needs surgery $300 to remove the very small cyst and he said don't give yourself PTSD I won't give him any shots while he is under!!! Let me tell you, I am actually being treated for PTSD!! I walked out of there $80 less and my dog barely looked at, just to say..Surgery!! All about the money!!! He also offered a credit line since I wasn't happy about the price! Are you kidding me!! I found eye drops on chewy that helped my other shi tzu, He DENIED THEM! Since recently moving to Johnstown, my sweet dog started developing some strange symptoms. Not knowing vets in the area, I started Google searching and found this place and chose them based off reviews. I called first thing yesterday morning and was able to get an appointment that same morning (although I had to opt for a lunch time appointment due to my work schedule). The staff here was absolutely wonderful and took such good care of my baby girl.... and it was so appreciated seeing as I was a bit of an emotional and worried dog mommy. Dr. Assad recommended a series of tests to find out what the problem is and he even addressed another chronic issue my dog has (which I learned was misdiagnosed by another vet at a different place)! I was visiting family from out of state and my pet needed dental care. I had no established history with JVA and was under a time constraint to get care for my pet. I called on a Sunday and was given an appointment the next day. The vet examined my pet and had oral surgery that same day. We all know vet services, especially dental care, can be quite expensive. The vet afforded me complimentary discount due to the amount of extractions. I was impressed by the quick turn around and hospitality of an office I have no established connection to. It was time for my little man to part ways with his two best friends. I had looked around this area for some time to find a place that would accommodate my schedule and at the same time put me at ease with the whole situation. I did my homework, made my phone calls, and asked around and ended up with coming here. Before we did the major thing, we came for a checkup. What is really different about this place compared to other vets I have visited in the past is the waiting area. I had not stepped foot in here prior and felt very welcomed. Although I am not sure whether this place takes care of other animals other than dogs and cats, the waiting area is divided. My like some houses when it comes to pets, one side for cats and one side for dogs. When you think about it, your pet is already stressed with having to come here, why cause more stress in the waiting area. I really appreciated that. Other things, a small grassy area outside for your dog to do its business (with disposable bags as well), leash holding hooks so you can focus on paperwork instead of attempting to control your pet, and two separate entrances depending on what you are here for. Our first visit was a quick one. A quick checkup, booster shot, and nail trimming and we were out the door. The only thing I did not like was how rushed and flat affected the Vet was. It felt to me that he was more concerned with quantity rather than quality of care. If this is the only hiccup I come across while visiting here, I'm fine with that. Our next visit was when my little man was here to say his final goodbyes to his boys. Like with any preparation for a surgery, the prep is harder than the actual procedure. No food or drink after midnight is rough for a dog that is used to a schedule. Show up between the times I was given and that was all I had to do for that day. The hardest part for me was the wait, I was told to call around four that day just to check in and when I did I was told my little man did well. The next day I showed up to pick up my table lamp, I mean little man and all is going right. All paperwork was done quickly and out he walked. **Care Credit is accepted here. read more

Dr. Asaad squeezed my dog in when I called on a Saturday because Cambria vet abandoned us after taking almost 900 dollars to "treat" what they said was maybe kidney failure we never got an answer as to what they thought was wrong. They sent her home with useless meds and she was in liver failure. Now that she's being properly treated there's a good chance she will live. Dr Asaad ran a few tests over about an hour and knew what was wrong. Had I waited for Cambria vet my dog would be dead. read more

I've been going to JVA since I moved here in 2007, Dr. Assad is extremely skilled and compassionate. I've been happy with my visits with Dr. Knavel as well. The hospital is American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) certified, which is actually a big deal. AAHA holds Veterinary Hospitals to very high standards regarding cleanliness, anesthesia protocols, patient care, etc., and requires periodic recertification to update and make sure these standards are being upheld. To my knowledge, JVA is the only AAHA hospital in the area. Dr. Assad has diagnosed and worked with me on my pets' difficult diseases (Cushing's Disease, a very unstable diabetic) with compassion and skill. I highly recommend going to JVA for your pet's medical needs. read more

Johnstown Veterinary Associates provided consistently outstanding and compassionate care for my cat. About a year ago, I took my cat there a few days before I was scheduled to go on vacation out of the country. He was sneezing and I googled and scared myself. I fully expected to be told it was nothing. It was actually kidney failure. He spent the night there and was given IV medication and fluids. I called the next day, prepared to hear that I needed to euthanize him. Surprise! He was ready to go home! He went back to their boarding facility while I was on vacation and after that received weekly subcutaneous fluids for a little over a year and will continue to eat special kidney safe food. I just called to cancel his remaining appointments because his kidneys are fine now! Johnstown Veterinary Associates treated me kindly when I was crying so hard I couldn't breathe and were prepared to help me make some tough decisions, they were up front and honest about the severity of my cat's condition without scaring me unnecessarily. Unimpressed with the vet and her diagnosis of my cat who had a very bad cold and had lost weight.I've had animals for over 50 yrs. and she was not suffering or in pain. When I refused to have her put down,I was sent home with 2 small bottles of medicine. For an exam, blood test and 2 very small bottles of medicine was charged an exorbitant amount. I'm not sure I have words for how much I enjoyed the appointment even tho my gut baby was sick. I Have a pet rat and it's difficult to find a vet who treats "exotics" let alone one who is local with very reasonable pricing. Reception, vet techs and the vet himself were so kind and reassuring because I was so concerned and I thought I could lose my best friend and I just can't fathom that. When the vet said he's got a minor respiratory infection and I'll make sure you get everything you need to get him back to full health. Due to unrelated circumstances, money is tight, I won't get too detailed but the staff made sure I didn't leave without my rats medicine, most people wouldn't even take a rat to the vet but he's gotten me through so much. I simply didn't have the entire amount due at the end of our visit and they ever so generously used funds from their emergency animal fund. Please donate to this fund if you're able to, it helped my pet and myself so much and he's already getting better jusy two days later. I had some questions after I got home and they were right on top of it all and definitely did their due diligence to ensure I knew/know exactly what and when to give Allistor. Overall you'll have to experience it yourself nut I can assure you that you won't he disappointed. read more
